The small apartment is based in the town of Castro Urdiales which is a seaside town. It is a five minute walk to the sandy beach and then a seafront walk into the town (about 30 minutes). It is very picturesque. There is a 12 hour supermarket opposite the apartment and the bus into Bilbao runs from the end of the road (every 30 minutes).
The owner always responded very promptly and was easy to communicate with. On the day of our arrival we were one and a half hours early and he arranged for his cleaner to let us in (also very friendly and welcoming). In hindsight the apartment clearly needed some additional attention and maybe we would have been better to wait for our 3 0 clock check in.
The apartment is small and was originally one large apartment which has since been converted into two smaller ones. There is a shared entrance lobby leading to two lockable front doors. The living and sleeping area is one and the bed is a fold down sofa. The bathroom has no natural ventilation and a concertina door that does not provide any soundproofing. This coupled with the bed being directly next to the door proved challenging at times! The flat needed a lot of airing when we arrived and the two doors onto the terrace allowed this to happen.
There is a swimming pool in the grounds of the apartment blocks, which was rarely occupied and I swam every morning and really enjoyed it. There is nowhere to naturally sit and relax on poolside, but the beach is so close that you can take your book and relax there instead.
