If dusty winding roads are not for you then give this piece of paradise a miss! If you're not phased then tootle in to this idyllic location and find a spot in one of the many sites. Suitable for camper vans & tents. No power but excellent amenities. DOC HQ has basic supplies including ice. Beach is safe and just like the pictures! Nearby lagoon excellent for kids. Lots of walks to do or relax in sun. Sandflies present, esp. on calm, overcast days & few mosquitos after dark. Regular water taxi service to other parts of Golden Bay.

Excellent location and one of the nicest beaches within 1 minute waking distance. However keep in mind that it's 15 dollars per person so definitely on the top end of the DOC sites. Everything else is perfect. Especially the walk to SEPERATION POINT

Stunning part of the country at New Zealands's largest DOC camp. This camp can cater for 1000 people but around 800 seems tops…and you'd never know that many people were there. The sites are cleverly designed in bays with running water in each bay and an open fire where you are provided with wood which makes for a lovely way to the end the day. The ablution blocks are cleaned every morning and some have solar lights and are tiled…pick your bay wisely! The showers are set up to hang your solar shower and conveniently located in every bay. Because this is part of the Great Walk as well, trampers have their own handy sites available almost right on the beach. No cellphone signal which makes for a total relax. There is a boat ramp which is hugely popular with boa ties but is really on accessible on appropriate tides. DOC run a wee shop for essentials since its half an hour over a really narrow, windy road to the nearest shop. Pay telephone boxes are available too which is very important to book your water taxi to visit the other bays or to bring you back home after walking a section of the Great Walk…or to take you somewhere nice for lunch if spaghetti on toast is proving a bit tedious. You used to have to ballot for space over the busy time but I believe this is changing for the 2014/15 season allowing you to book online as soon as bookings are open.
