Awaroa Lodge
Certificate of Excellence

We had heard about Awaroa from two friends who traveled to NZ at different times. We were seeking a fabulous, peaceful luxury experience at an eco-lodge to end our three week trip in New Zealand. Awaroa was spectacular! Our suite was beautiful, and nothing was better than sipping a glass of wine in total quiet on our deck overlooking the wetlands, listening to birds and the sound of raindrops on the roof, and smelling the earthy scents of the land around us. Food was extraordinary, created from the products in their beautiful organic garden. The best part was the personal service provided by Pietro and Tony in the dining room, at the desk and everywhere around the property! They are Awaroa's best "amenity"! Owners Barry and Salina go out of their way to make sure guests are delighted by their experience at Awaroa. We would recommend the lodge to anyone traveling to Abel Tasman Park. Thank you!

The water here is pristine and so clear, a perfect place to totally relax. The lodge is in the most perfect setting. The food is nicely presented and the service freindly.
I would have no hesitation to tell anyone that I know to go there, the place is unique!!!!!

One of the most popular hiking destinations in Abel Tasman Park, Awaroa Lodge can be accessed by light plane, helicopter and boat. Otherwise – you have to hike in.

By boat, you arrive on an expanse of pristine golden beach. Then, the quad bike comes to fetch your bags and it's a short walk through native bushland to the reception area and bar/ restaurant.

Accommodations include luxury suites overlooking a regenerated wetland area, as well as 2-storey family villas.

Activities include eel feeding, bush walking, bird watching, glow worm spotting, swimming, sea kayaking, helicopter scenic trips and exploring the great outdoors.

The food here is excellent and an organic garden provides much of the produce. Most waste is recycled or reused on site and clever management and operations have earned Awaroa Lodge recognition from EarthCheck.

British man Barry and his Hong Long-born wife Selena own and operate the property. They've invested heavily in bringing facilities up to international standards and are serious about restoring the environment to its original state.

I'd HIGHLY recommend hooking up with Andrew from Tasman Helicopters for a scenic helicopter flight over the mountains and inlet to take in the water falls and quiet coves.

As a guest, I rate this property extremely highly but I would like to see free Internet access for email, Facebook and twitter. This could only benefit the operators.

Mobile phones don't work out here (Yayyy!). Bring sand fly spray and stop itch lotion. Oh! And bring a strong yet small torch for each person. The generator goes off at 11pm, so if you want to read or are on a different time zone, the only light provided in rooms is a lantern (that in our case we forgot to re-charge).

Recommend travelling with Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle from Kaiteriri as the vessel is large, the commentary en route is good, they get in close to basking seals, and they operate with safety and comfort in mind.

Great place for weddings, honeymoons, conferences, romantic weekends, family vacations, exploring, relaxing.

Final word: What on Earth was Qual Mark thinking when they rated this place? Awaroa is definitely 5-Star all the way!

Room Tip: 2-storey Family Villas offer excellent space for all, close to communial facilities.

What a fabulous place to have your annual Xmas party! 80 of us had the most wonderful time at Awaroa Lodge - the weather was perfect - the beach pristene - and the staff at Awaroa went out of their way to make it perfect for us in every way. The food was absolutely beautiful and presented well - everyone commenting on it (esp the salmon) Some of us stayed - the accomodation lovely. The vegetable garden is a MUST to view - supplying the restaurant with their daily fresh vegetables. We loved our stay at Awaroa Lodge - our first time - but certainly won't be our last! Thank you

Upon arriving we were immediately offered an upgrade for $50.00 a piece which would allow us to have electricity and hot water when we wanted it, otherwise it was to be turned off between 10:30pm and 7:00. There was no mention of this when I booked the room. The food was very disappointing and ridiculously expensive for what you got. We were cold, hungry and ready to leave after the first day but couldn't get out. We gladly left after night two but unfortunately had bed bug bites that made us miserable the rest of our trip.

Room Tip: Ask for one with hot water electricity and no bed bugs! Pull back the sheets on every bed

These two ladies stayed here at the same time as the reviwer of 20th November. The two reviews show completely opposing viewpoints of the Lodge. Tony, my front office manager is furious. The ladies booked a standard room, these have one queen double and one single bed, so Tony offered them an upgrade to a Superior villa suite for $50 (not 2 x $50). The superiors have Two Super king singles, a private balcony and large lounge overlooking the wetlands (our best villa suites). They chose to stay in the standard villa suite. We are a registered "Earthcheck" ECO wilderness lodge.Power is by 120 kva diesel generators, computer controlled, that switch off power at 11.00 p.m and switch on power at 07.00 a.m.
We are proud of the reduction in carbon emmissions that benefit our mother Earth. The owners would like to sue these ladies for defamation regarding the false accusation of bed bugs. As GM I can assure you all that our beds are not contaminated as stated. Whilst here, these ladies made no adverse comments whatsoever either verbally or in writing.
