“Abel Tasman Awesomeness”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Beginning to end - Marahau to Wainui Bay - 4 days, 5 nights. Walking, Yes! But much more. The scenery, sounds (birds & sea), sun (a bit of rain too) and swimming. It was magic, even though at the height of the season - February - it was busy. Boats, kayaks and day walkers.
The DOC huts are in magnificent locations, and the Rangers helpful & friendly. If you're a light sleeper, make sure you bring your earplugs.

Special highlights: Great swims at The Anchorage & Totaranui; Coffee, and (later in the day with a dusk walk) a beer at upmarket Awaroa Lodge; dramatic Separation Point; on the last night, at Wharewharangi Hut, being warned that a tsunami was on its way from the Solomon Is earthquake so keep away from the beach (nothing happened!).

Special mention: Sharleen and Nelson Lakes Shuttles. What a great service. Sharleen picked us up from Wainui Bay and returned us to Marahau, and then Nelson. What a great drive. Thoughtful and knowledgeable, Sharleen asked if we were interested in a 'coffee'? - a unanimous 'Yes!' from our party of six. She took us to The Wholemeal Cafe' in Takaka. What a place, what food (exceptional), and great coffee. Another treat. An excellent return trip and way to finish a magic 5 days. Thanks Nelson Lakes Shuttles

“Fabulous walking”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Take the Shuttle from either Marahau or Kaiterteri and hop off at one beach and be picked up later at another. Amazing views and beaches. Terrific bush growth. Boats give good wildlife hints. Marvellous.

“fantastic hiking and views”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

This track is amazing! It is a fairly easy track with incredible views and spectacular beaches. We did day hikes as the huts were all booked during the time we were in NZ.

We took 2 short (2-3 hour) hikes - from Torrent Bay to Anchorage Bay & Torrent Bay to Barks Bay - & both were beautiful & relatively easy.

Just spent 2 days walking the Abel Tasman National Park. We had done the same trip 7 years ago but I was gobsmacked at the scenic beauty and peacefulness of the area all over again!! It really is the jewel in new Zealands crown!! The tracks are well maintained, the walking level moderate and the scenery 5 star. The crystal clear waters, powdery white sands and brillant blue skys really give the Pacific Islands a run for their money!! If you havent seen this part of our country yet or are visiting NZ don't miss this magic experience!!
The water taxi services from kaiteriteri are all very well run , professional, safety conscience and drivers are excellent sources of information.
