We decided, as the weather forecast looked really good to go away for one night in South Devon, and found the B&B on the internet the Friday night before. The room that we had was clean, spacious and really comfortable. There were really nice touches such as an array of body washes on the window sill in the bedroom, the chocolate one was gorgeous!!
We had a meal out and then returned to the bar for a couple of drinks, the locals were very friendly and an interesting bunch, and we had a good laugh with them!!
Breakfast the next morning was to die for, strawberries and yoghurt to start, fruit juice and cereals and then a massive 'Full English' if you wanted it, freshly brewed coffee and tea too!!
The village of South Brent was very pretty too, situated on the edge of South Dartmoor, it was perfect for visiting the South Hams as we had done on Saturday before our arrival. The owners - Ken and Linda, were extremely friendly and we would like to thank them for a lovely stay. We would whole heartedly recommend 'The Pack Horse' to anyone!!

Room Tip: We ended up with the Twin En Suite, as all the doubles were booked, however it was a lovely room and...

Stayed here whilst attending a wedding nearby. Hosts made us feel very welcome - putting the cricket on, and especially sorting out taxi's. Room was excellent - large, clean and with lots of lovely little touches. Breakfast was large! Great option if exploring this part of Devon.

lovely accommodation as described, but they did not know we were coming despite paying on line. I had to show my booking to the first host to prove I had booked. First host very friendly but owner not so friendly we ate in pub but didn't feel welcome at all. payed £85 so not value for money

Born and Bred in the local area and now living in Surrey, we recently 'came home ' for a weekend and were looking for a quiet, comfortable lodging which gave us our home comforts, our own space , but well positioned for all the things we had to do, Visit family and friends locally, easy distance to everything, The Moor , Totnes, Tavistock,Plymouth and of course, two favourite beaches, Bigbury and Mothecombe. Funny ..... having lived in the Shaugh Prior area for 34 yrs I never realised how conveniently centrally situated South Brent is !!.
Finding the Packhorse is easy, just off the A38 into the quiet village with a small range of shops where everything is available and which are run by great friendly people.
The private parking is a real bonus. Entering the Packhorse we walked immediately into a lovely Devon pub with a great atmosphere and relaxing ambience, it was nice to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink whilst listening to, and getting involved in , the friendly banter and chat of the locals.
We had to say Wow when we saw our room, we had booked the twin and it was delightful. A big room, plainly decorated, with two sash windows, high ceilings, two nice comfortable beds with lovely linens, colour coordinated furnishings and extra's, spotlessly clean and fresh. A hospitality tray with tea, coffee, chocolate and mints and biccy's was much appreciated. A selection of accessories and extra's, shower/bath gels, hand creams. hairspray, scissors, cotton wool, hairdryer, everything was provided for a pleasurable stay. The ensuite bathroom, which although on the smaller side with an avocado suite ( which is all coming back now and is quaint ! ) was kitted out very well, large bath with an amazing power shower over which belted out HOT water was fab. Lovely thick towels, folded beautifully and even the toilet roll was decoratively folded. The attention to detail and cleanliness was very evident. Breakfast downstairs in the bar was at 9am, a relaxed affair, (with only 4 available rooms not crowded,) with a selection of cereal, yoghurt, fresh strawberries and juice, followed by a fantastic huge full english. Perfect ! It set you up for the whole day ! Run by a lovely, welcoming and friendly family who obviously take great pride in the service they offer, it was a real pleasure to stay here, and the ' come and go as you please' attitude was wonderful and made us feel like we were staying with family. So, Many Thanks guys, for a great stay, great food, and a big WELL DONE for doing such a great job ! We will definately be back, no need to look anywhere else, we found our home from home ! Sally & Damone.

Room Tip: All 4 rooms are individual, if the twin was very big, the four poster room must be vast !

I booked this last minute as wanted to be close to Plymouth. It only took about 20 to 30 minutes to get in. The only room left had a four poster bed. I agreed this will do as I needed to go to Plymouth urgently. When we drove up the building and carpark I thought it needed some TLC, however, when we couldn't get in the front door to the pub because we were very early, we went into their coffee shop which is attached. We were greeted with a friendly smile from the lady running the cafe. She went to find us help and when she came back she said the chap wouldn't be long. It wasn't long before we were greeted and shown to our room, it was only 10am so it wasn't completely ready, but we were welcome to look around and leave our bags. We were shown around and explained the key system. We went off and when we got back late we enjoyed the local fish and chips a few doors along. The village reminded me of something from Miss Marple story, and wondered if we were going to be murdured in our bed... We went to our room and it was very clean and tidy, the shower room was very clean as well. Plenty of toiletries and lovely large bath towels. Plenty of tea and coffee and a wonderful teapot. We also had a biscuit and a chocolate waiting. There was a very good information book made up for visitors explaining the history. We had a lovely nights sleep and felt fresh in the morning. Breakfast was served at 9am. When we went down stairs the pub table was laid with a white tablecloth. There was freshly cut strawberries, oken yoghurt and plenty of cereals. We were asked what we wanted for breakfast as its all cooked to order. I have been staying in hotels for years and this was the best cooked breakfast I have had. The back bacon was tasty, grilled tomatoes and great scrabbled eggs. fresh coffee and toast. It was a shame we had to change our plans the last minute and leave before breakfast the second morning. We got such a warm feeling from the hosts and from the people in the village. It was a quirky stay and we lived to tell the story. We would deffinately be back to explore the beautiful area and have more wonderful cooked foods. Thank you very much. Helen and Brian

Stayed here for two nights as part of a wedding weekend. We arrived quite late on the Friday evening and we were impressed with the ample private parking located at the rear of the property. Our welcome was brief and the young girl didnt seem as friendly as some of the reviews report, we were not informed about breakfast, and only found out about this through our welcome pack which was a lovely hidden extra! Tea, coffee and hot chocolate making facicilities in the room, which was beautifully decorated. Everything was coordinated and well thought of from the extra fluffy towels to hairdryer and lint roller in the drawer. The bed was so comfy had the best two nights sleeps, such a thick feathered duvet with lovely sheets and a plentiful amount of pillows. Breakfast was cooked to order in the morning and was delicious, could not fault selection available. I would reccomend and would definetly visit again!

Room Tip: room3 was a delight to stay in, cosy and well presented decor
