“A Really Good Meal!”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

We enjoyed our meal, inclusive of the cost of our stay at the adjoining Beamish Hall Hotel, so much that we paid to go back the following night. The service was very good, the meals all hot and very appetising, and just the right sized portions. The presentation was interesting - the food was piled up in the centre of the plate in a way that I had not come across before, making a very interesting display and keeping the food below warm. The meal from the main menu was preferable to the one the following night which we had ordered from the Christmas menu, but both were good, and the variety was great.

“Not worth the hassle! ”
Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

Went there today with family I hadn't seen over Christmas. We were really looking forward to it but after a long frustrating wait for our food we left feeling extremely disappointed and upset. It took 3 different people just to get a drinks order to us. After ordering our food the starters came out pretty quickly along with the kids' food. Our starter dishes were taken pretty quickly but that's where the real hassle began. The kids finished their food and then started to become a little bored. We asked a few times where our food was and the reply was that it was on the pass and we would be next. We weren't! We had to keep asking and pointed out that the children were getting bored so they offered a free ice cream (that took a while to come out!). I had to ask again where our food was and eventually it came out. Most of the good was ok but we had to send the risotto back because it wasn't cooked. We chose not to have a replacement. They told us they would take the drinks and the risotto meal off the bill. We did not leave a tip and left very disappointed. We won't be going back in a hurry.

“Disapponiting!”
Reviewed December 24, 2013 via mobile

We've been there for a Christmas dinner and were disappointed with the food. The starter & the dessert were fine, but the mainmeal was awfull. The "roasted" potatoes were uncooked as were all the vegetables. The only eatible things were the meat and the sausages. For that ammount of money we paid we did expected more quality. You can get better food in any pub and we won't come back.

“xmas party”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

had our xmas party there and was disappointed with the starter of melon the amount provided was an insult. the main was beef or turkey which was cooked okay but no vegatables were left it was twenty minutes before any more were bought out and no mash potatoes provided only oven potatoes. the desert was xmas pudding which had flour in the middle and the lemon tart was under cooked and very poor. the price of two pints at the bar was £9.50 A 30£ meal i dont think so : (

“Good meal & service!”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

We come up for the GNR and have for the last 2 years really enjoyed the beer festival at the stables.
We booked to eat on a busy Friday night and had an enjoyable meal, no different to any other year, and I was apprehensive based on recent reviews.
Service/Staff were excellent the food came our quickly, was hot, tasty and well presented. I had fish n chips and it was all very fresh, hubby had the beef and again enjoyed it.
We will defiantly eat here again next year.
It's a shame to see the very mixed reviews.
