“Mid-week break in the snow !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

We recently took a mid-week 2 night break at the Teesdale hotel and would highly recommend it !!! The staff were very friendly and helpful, suggesting different places to visit etc.. The room was very nice and warm, it was quite cold outside, but not in the Teesdale Hotel bar with its lovely log fire !!! The breakfast was very good and we also ate in the restaurant at night which was excellent and very good value for money. Well worth a return visit!!

Room Tip: go for an upgrade - its well worth the £15.00 per night per room

We spent a Sunday and Monday night at the hotel with a KGB deal. We found all the staff and manager Dave to be really friendly and helpful. It was lovely just being in the bar with locals. The food was lovely, we ate both evenings and the breakfasts were great with lots of choice and full English cooked to order. The staff knew a lot about the local area which was helpful. We had a great walk in the snow from Low Force to High Force and found some bargains in the bookshop across the road run by volunteers. There's interesting photos on the wall in the bar showing the hotel when it was called the Cleveland. There were a few too many nicknacks and silk flowers for me but my husband thought it made the place more homely and personal. (Maybe I just thought about all the dusting) We had a lovely time and would recommend it.

From the moment we arrived we knew we would love our 2 night stay, the room was lovely and cosy with all amenities could ask for. First night went out a little to see what was around, to find only the co-op down the road, so ate in the hotel, food lovely! After that spent the rest of the night in the bar with the manager David and locals (Laura). Great laugh and down to earth. Even though the weather wasnt the best and everywhere was snowed over we were determined to see the waterfalls and walk around the countryside. Low Force and High Force are great and it makes it so much more scenic in the snow! Gibsons Cave however was closed due to a landslip which was a shame. Second night we decided to venture out to The Crown pub, in Mickleton, which was to say the least , disappointing and overpriced , caring more about the presentation than what they are serving. Should have stayed in the hotel. Overall a great hotel and great place. Thanks David, Justin and Sally!

Room Tip: Room 6 or 9, cant remember now, at the very front of the hotel , 1st floor, with the bay window! Lov...

Excellent value, good food including freshly prepared breakfast which is cooked to order. Cosy bar with reasonable prices, friendly locals and a roaring log fire. Comfortable bed and characterful antique furniture in our room. Highly recommended.

Got this hotel though a K.G.B. deal and we got a cosy room on the top floor check in is from 1400 onward we were going to stay two night's starting on a sunday on the way we stopped off for sunday lunch so we didn't eat the first night at the hotel but going off the menu the food and price's seemed ok, We had a walk around the town later that afternoon and a couple of pint's in the bar before bed as we were planning a trip to high force the next morning after breakfast which was a good hearty affair cereal, full english etc.but after we had heard the weather and snow was due to fall by late afternoon we decided to cut our stay short and head for home as we had to cross the north pennine to get to northumberland so we never ate dinner but we did manage to get upto high force which was quite spectacular with the amount of water coming over the fall's we will have to return at a later date to try some walking So to sum up cosy hotel nice staff owner's trying hard to make something of this hotel still outdated in place's but best of luck to them

Had hoped to manage a few favourite walks during short day at Teesdale Hotel but weather had other ideas. All was not lost however -ended up spending a day in the hotel/bar with locals who have lived & worked in the dales for years.....a treat. Agree with all other recent comments -hotel unpretentious, clean, warm, cosy, friendly. Food fresh, locally sourced, plentiful & VFM, just what you need after a day in the fresh air or bar. Would happily stay there again & encourage others to do same.

Dear Peppinz,
It was a nasty day indeed! Good to hear you enjoyed your day in the bar by the fire. You made old Peter's day by listening to his lead-mining stories! Thanks for the great review and remember; you promised Jock you'd come and see him again!

My husband & I had a lovely couple of nights at the Teesdale Hotel last week. It's a charming former coaching inn, with a friendly atmosphere, and cheerful, helpful staff. Don't expect glitz & pretentiousness. The cosy bar has a real fire, good beer & is frequented by locals who don't treat guests as if they're alien invaders. The food is home-cooked, tasty & filling; the evening meals are priced reasonably, and can be taken either in the bar or the dining room. Breakfasts set us up for a day in the best the Teesdale weather threw at us. The bedroom we had was warm, the bed comfy, and the en-suite more than adequate. The staff apologised that some rooms were either due, or undergoing a bit of a face-lift, but it's the quiet season - it has to be done some time. On our second morning at least one member of staff had been unable to get in because of the snow, so our host was coping with cooking and overseeing a beer delivery, and still managed not to overcook anything. Well done! We'll be back.
