Booked a 2 night KGB break. We arrived earlier than check in time but as the room was ready the manager showed us to our room and put the heating on for us.
The room was clean and comfortable but dated. The window frames and sill had black damp around them but I suppose that is to be expected of a hotel of that age and given the damp time of year.
The bathroom was clean but then when you get in the bath you could see it was very dusty around the bottom towards the back of the toilet. I felt that this lapse of cleanliness let the hotel down slightly.
Breakfast was served from around 7am which was delicious and plentiful. The only drawback was when we got up to get ready to go for breakfast at 8am the water was flat cold. I assumed the water was on a timer so we just made a coffee in our room then by the time we had finished it the water was piping hot so we could then get ready for our day ahead.
We didn't have an evening meal at the hotel as the first night we ate in Barnard Castle then the second night we got fish and chips from the chippy over the road
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The roaring coal fire in the bar was delightful and relaxing.
Originally we were due to stay in August for our silver wedding anniversary but had to rearrange 3 times due to work commitments. Our final rearrangement was actually my husband's birthday. As we were driving through the village to the hotel an idiot on a clear stretch of the road crashed straight into the back of our car while we were stationary in traffic. Although we tried not to let this spoil our break it certainly didn't add to our fun!
I would definitely stay here again but only in the summer time as there is nothing much to do in the winter regarding country walks.

Dear Davina-Jeff,
Sorry to hear about your road accident!
I'm sure if you'd run the tap a little longer the hot water would have come through: the boiler always has it hot well before 8 and we weren't busy.
Such a shame you didn't get to experience our great home-cooked food: all local produce, at very reasonable prices; it's one of the reasons people keep returning!
Some of the most invigorating walking can be done in the winter months if you wear the right gear, if you come again, ask me and I'll send you on some great routes!
Thanks for your positive comments. Sorry about the dust behind the toilet; a rare omission I promise.
Regards,
Dave
P.S. 3 out of 5 for value?! (Your once-only deal was £29.50/night!!)

Just stayed at this hotel on a KGB deal with my in-laws. We have stayed at many hotels but have never taken the time to leave a review. But after this weekend we felt we should praise all the staff who made our stay very memorable. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone there went out of their way to look after us. It was excellent value for money, thanks to all of you. Keep up the hard work and we hope to see you very soon !!

We came on a KGB deal, but will definitely return. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the room was nice, very warm with a bath as well as a shower. We ate in both nights and the food was excellent, particularly the Eton mess! Breakfast was also very good. No faults at all to find with this hotel, we enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

We spent two nights here on a KGB break, what a treat! The friendliness of all the staff was really nice. The room was not huge but very clean and comfortable. We were surprised to get all the towels changed for the second day and all the refreshment tray contents renewed. Breakfast was superb with fresh fruit salad - even blueberries - Full English breakfast was a must - lovely, I think a lot of local produce- lovely sausages ! Great young man waiting on - very helpful and obliging. We had dinner in the hotel on the second evening, almost anything could be cooked to order and we ate in the bar-lounge where there was a blazing coal fire.
Played Scrabble (board specially obtained for us by Justin) Perhaps that wasn't too good an idea as we fell out over who was the winner !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Teesdale Hotel.
The staff were most helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The food was excellent.
The hotel is somewhat dated and in need of a refurbishment but despite this we will be going back again.

Dear IanBLeeds,
Great to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Dated decor is very much on our list, in the meantime though we do our utmost to keep the rooms homely, well maintained and scrupulously clean.
See you again!

Dave
