We stayed here for two nights, starting with lunch on Sunday. This was for a birthday surprise for my wife. I wanted something a bit special and she was not disappointed. The food, room and staff were a real treat! The drinks were not overpriced and it was a pleasant change to be offered hand-pulled beer from the hotel bar. It certainly will not be our last visit to The Talbot

Stayed here for a three day break in November 2012. and what a find it was. Treat yourself to a feature room if you can. Immaculate huge room, four poster bed, fabulous bathroom and complimentary tea and coffee only a call to reception away. Excellent friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble. The food is exquisite - do not expect expect large portions though. The smoked loin of beef was beyond delicious. The drinks were very reasonably priced for a hotel of this standing. A most fabulous break away - thoroughly recommend it.

My wife and I decided to take a short break while visiting old friends in Malton. Very impressed with the room, the ambience, and, above all, the food - while not cheap, dinner was excellent-we were asked , and happily agreed, to test a duck dish before it appeared on the next menu. The only let down was slightly slow service at dinner, though a positive feature was that nearly all staff were local.

Just returned from an overnight stay at this stylish and comfortable hotel. The staff are friendly and super efficient and the food exceptional. Streets ahead of similarly priced hotels and would strongly recommend a stay!

Room Tip: We had room 10 which was nice and quiet as there wasn't other guests walking past

We have just returned from two nights at The Talbot and had a wonderful break. Everything about this hotel is designed for relaxation, the blazing log fires, big comfy sofas, first class selection of gins and of course the staff! They were knowledgeable, professional and very welcoming.
We enjoyed the taster menu on our first night and would recommend it . Although there were several courses they were small and very delicious , designed to excite the palate.
Malton station is a 10 minute stroll from the hotel with hourly trains to York, a great day out with no parking worries.
We had a lovely pre- Christmas chill.

My wife surprised me with an evening away for my birthday. The hotel which had been totally refurbished 2 years ago was beautifully restored. A magnificent Georgian building. Spacious rooms, fabulous dinner (and breakfast) designed by Celebrity Chef James Martin. However the best thing about the hotel was that they welcomed (with definite open arms) our two golden retrievers! They even supplied doggie beds and treats. Located in a beautiful town close to Castle Howard, Helmsley and the Yorkshire Wolds, Moors and seaside.
