Went for lunch today (31st July) As had come to Malton for a browse round the town. Very traditional tea room serving nice lunches. We ordered homemade steak and mushroom pie with mash potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The pie arrived in approx 20 minutes and was delicious with plenty of rich gravy. The price was £7.20 which for the quality of the food was reasonable we then had the Swiss Roll with fresh strawberries and cream this was gorgeous and again at £2.20 very good value we followed this with a milkshake at £2.00.
Service a bit slow but it was a lovely day and we were not in a hurry.
The tea room is decorated with a Victorian theme and feels very cosy. Would definitely recommend for lunch or tea. Will visit again when in the area. A good sign was that it was full and all plates when back empty. Staff very friendly.

Just returned home from a trip to Malton and lunch at the Hidden Monkey Tea Room. Had to wait nearly half an hour to be served and then only half the order ever arrived. Gave up in the end

Called in on a Sunday lunchtime after a nice wander around pretty Malton. This is a traditional café with a quaint feel in terms of décor and a menu that will appease those with a liking for straight forward English meals. Home made cakes tempt the weak will-powered as you choose from the menu consisting of home cooked meals, jacket potatoes and sandwiches as well as the Specials board for something a little different. I chose the Giant Yorkshire Pudding with two sausages, mashed potatoes and vegetables and was not disappointed. I left just enough room for a mint chocolate sundae, thus undoing any good my walk had done, but hey-ho! My meal in full came to just under £12 with a diet coke. The service was warm, friendly and prompt. Next time I'm in Malton, I wouldn't hesitate to seek out the Hidden Monkey. A nice experience with good food. Recommended.
