Really lovely place. We ate in the bar as we had our 3 year old daughter with us. Delicious food , cosy atmosphere and good service. Had Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago too and enjoyed it. Definatley be back soon!

This country pub is very nice. The service and the food are excellent... It has lovely grounds and holds various functions trough the year.. Always holds a fabulous bonfire night with excellent firework display. Well worth a visit..

“Not as good as you expect it to be.”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

The Old Lodge is an odd mixture. We first went there as part as of a wedding party, this was very good, beautiful surroundings both inside and outside. We then went there for an evening meal in a party of four for a Birthday meal. The bar area is very cosy, log fire, oak panelling and comfy club chairs, very helpful and friendly bar staff. With all this atmosphere I thought that we were in for a super meal, sadly not, it was very ordinary , nothing was special and you have to pay extra for vegetables with the meal ! Between the four of us we had Venison, some pink and some well done. An oriental type chicken dish, tasting only of lemon, Duck was dry , I'm sure you get the picture , it wasn't a bad meal but we didnt come away thinking that we would hurry back.

“There are great places to have lunch near Malton, sadly this isn't one of them”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

My wife and i stopped here for lunch yesterday whilst on our way home from a lovely weekend in north Yorkshire. The building is magnificent from the outside but sadly the food didn't meet our expectations. I had the " Fish finger butty" from the specials board, a childhood favourite which in many restaurants is enhanced for the adult palate using good quality bread and battered mini fillets of fish, unfortunately it was just frozen fish fingers on white sliced bread with a handful of chips and garnish. such a disappointment. My wife had Risotto from the main menu, you might ask " what could go wrong"? well lots, it seemed to be cooked rice in a bland sauce with veggies rather than a risotto.
To the waiter who said "see ya later" as we left i say no way!

“Lovely atmosphere!”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

I came here with a friend to use the 'tastecard' I had recieved on a free trial. I hadn't been for a long time so I thought it was an ideal opportunity to try the food again when it was 2for1. The staff were very helpful in making you feel welcome etc. We both had starters which were presented both delicious and well presented. Followed by steaks for our mains, which were lovely although quite fatty - however this isn't really there fault, you don't always know what they're like until you cook them but it was a bit disappointing. After this we were unsure on whether to have desserts or not, but after reading the menu we couldnt pass! So pleased too, they were fantastic. Wonderful, will definitely return again.
