“Lonely diners”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

The pub is situated on a busy road and you are bombarded by offers Steak deals O A P deals dogs welcomed etc they are trying to cover every angle but cheapened the look add to this the unmade gravel car park it would not make me want to stop if I had not booked.
I booked a table for lunch it was a Wednesday when we arrived the restaurant was a sea of empty tables. When prompted the waitress remembered my booking I would seriously consider closing lunchtimes if it is normally this slow. The meal was average we explain we where not fish eaters and after some persuasion we were offered some mushrooms and new potatoes as an alternative. We enjoyed the meal but I must say i would have been dissapointed if I had paid £30 each.we left by the saloon bar where just two locals where at the bar.

“Tasty and good value”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

My family have eaten here a few times recently and invited us to join them for a family birthday meal. We visited on a Wednesday and just about all of us ordered from the steak night menu which gets you 2 meals and half carafe of wine for £15. The steaks with all the trimmings were excellent and what fantastic value for money. Could not fault it and the homemade chips are to die for! As mentioned before this place deserves the support of locals. The staff were lovely and the food was presented beautifully. Will be going again next week :-)

“Fantastic value Valentines Menu - and no doubt much more”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Living around 12 miles from Rillington, our first visit to The Fleece was Valentines Night. The restaurant did a special menu, three courses for £16.95.

The Fleece is an unassuming pub on the A64, York to Scarborough Road. The old lounge bar has been converted into a simply furnished but comfortable restaurant. It is clear from the special offer menu boards, and Sunday carvery menu that this place is not frightened to serve good quality, great value food.

Our welcome was warm, and the two ladies waiting on tables were friendly, courteous and efficient. We had already decided that the menu was so good, and so cheap, that even average would be fine. But what a surprise. A shared starter of eight different items - prawns, ribs, mozarella and parma ham parcels, garlic mushrooms, belly pork, crab cakes ....... was huge, well cooked and presented. The main courses were, well, huge! Served with plenty of fresh vegetables and the most superb chips, this was worth the money on its own.

And then the pudding - another shared plate with I think six different puddings - Eton Mess, Lemon Tart, Tadcaster Sponge, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Chocolate Fudge Cake and Mousse. Already full, this just about made us burst.

This place deserves support, and we will return to try their other menus. Locals should use it, and visitors must call on their way to and from the Yorkshire Coast. Very, very impressed, and happy to report a non pretentious pub that fully deserves our five star rating.

“HIGHLY RECOMMEND”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

WHAT A WONDERFUL DINING EXPERIENCE! FOOD AND SERVICE WAS FIRST CLASS. We had the seafood platter for 2, and couldn't believe the quantity, quality, and variety of the seafood---and the presentation is a work of art! SIMPLY SPECTACULAR! Sad, but had to split dessert (have to come back to try their other great items) --no room after such a great meal. Jenny the owner was so gracious and made the whole dining experience very enjoyable. Mike the Chef is in a league of his own and you can tell loves what he does. The restaurant is quaint, clean, and cozy. Overall, there is no way that we would miss coming back here next visit to the Yorkshire area--and recommending to our friends--great, great dining experience!
