We visited Reuben Stubbs in Congleton with some friends. It was our first visit for many years. We recieved a nice welcome and were allocated a table in the conservatory area at the back. The decor needs some TLC, the mock nicotain stained ceiling was a bit offputting, but the atmosphere was friendly and pleasant. The owner came over to tell us what was not on the menu, we stated we wanted the beef, and she reassured us that it was avilable and locally sourced, which was all very reassuring and we were looking forward to it. After two of us ordered the beef, we were told that in fact the last of it had just been sold. This was a surprise because it was a Saturday night at 8pm, which is peak time but not late? The owners husband came over to explain how popoular it always is (get some more in then, maybe). Anyhow, after changing the order, our meals arrived and we all enjoyed the options. Two went for steak, one for a lasagne and one for burger. The food is good and the price reasonable. The choice of beers is limited to one it seems, which could be improved on. Overall a nice restaurant, good food and pleasant owners who make you feel welcome.
