I have been going to the Rising Sun for many years but only for few times each year, I would go more often but it's a bit difficult living in South Wales. We of course go when visiting friend who live local. It is one of then rare pubs which tick all the boxes. As two men just standing at the bar drinking all day(when allowed) it has a great friendly atmosphere with staff you can have a bit off banter with, plus a wide selection of guest and house beers making a gentle challenge . As two couples it makes a great place for a quick drink, an impromptu meal or Sunday lunch with the menu catering for all tastes and prices. Finally it works as a destination pub for special meals and occasions, the food is easily good enough to take on top restaurants. So although in total I have been to this pub on relatively few occasions i can vouch that the standards have never failed to impress.

Ate here as part of a group of 8 on a Sunday night. There was a special Christmas menu but the full menu was also available and we appreciated that. We had pre-ordered but were allowed to make a few tweeks on arrival.

We had a warm welcome and got some good beers from the bar. Starters arrives; scallops which were amazing, rissotto which went down well, and some plaice roulades which were described as 'ok' as well. Mains were more hit and miss - those with steak pies were very pleased; there was an excellant mackerel dish with the best lentils ever, and the chicken with apricots went down very well. Less successful were a duck done two ways (mainly overdone) and a mediocre, dry burger. The chips were great, best i've had in ages,

Desserts were generally good; those having the brownie weere particularly pleased. However the eggnog creme brulee was ghastly, grey and grim; and only the shortbread saved it from being sent back to be honest.

Well-priced wine list and friendly, accommodating and informal service meant that overall we felt we would return, but it would be good to see the food have a little more care taken over it. I'd give the Rising Sun 3.5 if half points were available.

Wow!! Me, my partner, my daughter, 2 sons, and their partners went for a slap up birthday meal, and that it was! Brilliant staff, very attentive indeed, the food was lush, hot and served within 20 mins, which I thought was great considering there was 7 of us. They even bought my daughters bday cake out with candles lit and plates and napkins!, been back twice since this visit and it's always top quality! Well done guys!!

Found the Rising Sun after a days walking in Alderley Edge, the walk was lovely, the weather was lovely and then to drop onto The Rising Sun for a well deserved meal was just heaven. Not what we expected when we walked in. What a lovely warm place, the staff were the friendliest we have found in a long time, something has got to go wrong we thought, but no the food was delicious and the service was with a smile. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal it was the icing on the cake. Will definitely be visiting again. Well done - you deserve to be No 1.

We went to the Rising Sun on Tuesday evening for the 2 Rib-eye steaks with topping or sauce and a bottle of wine. The steaks were superb - good just as we had asked. Don't normally taint steaks with sauces but the scallops and prawn served on top was excellent and the garlic and white wine sauce served in a jug on the side was great for dunking chips! Third trip in as many weeks - for breakfast on a Friday and another evening meal. Can't fault so far! Keep up the good work.
