“Romantic spa getaway at its best!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

My hubby and I have spent three Christmas weekend getaways at the Estrimont ... The rooms/suites are huge and fully equipped with fireplace, dishes, microwave, etc. Our package included chocolates and bubbly along with a five-course meal, a massage for two, a lunch at the bistro and full access to the outdoor hot tubs and yourte. The food was delicious, the atmosphere very cozy and romantic and the view of Mount Ortford simply beautiful. We went snow shoeing on the mountain twice, only five minutes away. There is a local convenient store right around the bend as well if you forget anything. Would definitely be back!

The rooms are still beautiful and clean, and the staff are still friendly. We have been there a few times, and I have to admit that this time the experience was a tiny bit disappointing. Two of the outdoor tubs were close for maintenance (I know it can happen), but I would have liked to have been notified first as I might have gone elsewhere. They mentioned the tennis courts were still available but the nets were gone. I also noticed that the lighting in the rooms is quite poor and reading can be quite difficult. That should definately be improved...
I used to think this hotel was fabulous but not so much this time. It is still very good, just not fabulous.

The place is quite nice: very clean, spacious rooms, a good size kitchenette and a balcony with bbq. To make it worth the price, make sure you plan to visit the spa (sauna, hot tubs, etc.) during your stay, otherwise I'd say you could find other more affordable good quality accommodations in the area.
The quality of spa services (massages, etc.) is quite mediocre, even though the reception service is great. I find that they are not well equipped for 'special' customers such as pregnant women, even though they offer some services.
Room service menu is quite disappointing: the dishes are very small, 'fish and chips' has no chips included, and the soup doesn't come with any bread / crackers.
The restaurant (dinner) is quite nice: the service is impeccable, the dishes are served in a timely manner and their presentation is a piece of art. However, the food quality is less than what you may expect from this level of restaurant and the prices they charge. We had a way better culinary experience in a small country style restaurant nearby (see my other review).
I would recommend to register for the culinary workshop offered at the hotel by the executive chef - a wonderful experience, great instruction and demonstrations in a setting that makes you feel as if you're given a private workshop. We enjoyed it a lot.

If you're thinking of staying here, you probably already know about the local attractions - trees in the fall, skiing in the winter, lakes in the summer. Those are, in my opinion, the reasons to stay here. The spa is somewhat underwhelming - the two hot tubs are small home units. They do have two cold pools that are better integrated into the surroundings, but again, they are small. There are much better spas around.

However, as far as lodging and food is concerned, I had a great experience. Room was clean, bed comfortable. The towels could use renewing - one of ours had a hole in it... As well, water pressure is low.

Food was good - however, note that we were a very large group, so dinner was not 'à la carte'. Despite that, all dishes were tasty, served warm and well plated. Service was excellent.

The bar area has comfortable couches laid out in front of a fireplace for pre or post meal relaxing.

Overall good experience, as long as you're not expecting a top notch spa.

The rooms were starting to need attention. The internal woodwork was badly scratched, the external wood on the balcony was rotting. This was supposed to be a place to relax, but there was nowhere to sit outside except by the pool which wasn't big enough for the number
of people there. The air conditioning in the room was incredibly noisy.

We were trying to book on December at Estrimont for 2(!) years and could not. This could make anyone agitated - gosh, this place must be really good! It was not. At arrival we were met by never smiling lady, who did not show any welcome sign at all. She also was tight lipped when we asked basic questions on activities around the area. Concierge showed us the most distant and inconvenient way to get our luggage into the building.
Rooms are small and dated. Restaurant - nothing to write home about.
The only explanation of this place is close proximity to the mount Orford. Before Estrimont we tried other much better for the money lodging places in Magog, i.e. we recommend to shop around.

Luxurious accommodation, lots of pampering. A big plus is that you have fridge and cooking and barbecue facilities in the room. The spa and massages are a perfect recipe for relaxing. Pleasant, helpful staff. I was there for work but came away feeling as if I'd had a holiday. And it's down the road from the lovely Orford national park.
