There are few places in the Cairngorm National park where food, wine and location come together as beautifully as The Boat Bistro, we showcase rustic and seasonal fare and re-imagined classics, featuring vegetables, fruits and herbs grown locally combined with produce sourced from the British Isles. Poached, squeezed, pressed, steamed, grilled, wilted, roasted, battered and seared. Our utterly delicious food, from first thing in the morning to last thing at night, will melt on your tongue and always leave you wanting more. Our menus comprise contemporary interpretations of classic British dishes. Our Lunch and Dinner menus also feature daily Best of British specials. It almost goes without saying that we use fresh, local, seasonal produce as the norm.Breakfast offers you a range of cold dishes and freshly baked pastries from the larder. As well as a fully cooked Scottish breakfast, you can order anything from delicate smoked Scottish Haddock to meltingly beautiful Eggs Florentine. If there’s anything else you’d like to eat, just ask. We’re not too posh or proud to make boiled egg and soldier. “A treat for the taste buds.....and more....”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Boat has got a new chef. Now the old chef was really good (we've stayed a few times), but this new chef has just moved the whole menu up a few notches (turns out he's been Scottish chef of the year - I think). There's pretty much something for everyone on the menu, regardless of time or occasion - from a quick light snack to a full on fine dining extravaganza.

We were there for my wife's birthday, and the whole weekend was tremendous. The staff are great, they're very friendly and will go out of their way to help.

For the birthday dinner, my wife had a smoked wood pigeon starter followed by seafood linguine for main course, while I had a hot smoked salmon starter followed by a platter of scallops. Then to top it off we both had a terrific chocolatey dessert.

As for the hotel in general. The public areas ooze charm (the leather chairs beside the log fire are just fantastic after a days skiing at Cairngorm mountain). The rooms are well equipped, and the views looking out over Boat of Garten golf course and the Spey Valley are just stunning.

It's a great location, in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, and overall I don't think I can rate it highly enough. It's a fantastic place to go and stay for a break, but even if you're staying somewhere else, you should still go there for a meal.

Dear guest,

Having been a special dinner for your wife I am glad we were able to provide the quality of service that merits such a lovely response. As you mentioned we have recently had a change of leadership in our kitchen and while this takes nothing away from our previous chef, who did a wonderful job, we are pleased that the transition has not gone unnoticed. We are quite blessed with the location and what the area has to offer but its the staff that are a credit to us.
It is always nice to receive the feedback from our guests and we put that to good use to improve as and where we can.

We do hope that you will be back again soon and that we are able once again tickle your taste buds with more mouthwatering dishes.

Kindest regards,

Zsolt Balogh

“Delicious Food”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We enjoyed a lovely meal in the bistro on Friday 5th April and i have to say it was delicious and the service was excellent, staff very friendly. It was the first time we have stayed at the boat house and i would easily stay again and would recommed to my family and friends. The restaurant is cosy with the lovely fire.

“Delicious food & great service”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

What a wonderful Highland Hideaway. Friendly staff, great food and a warm & cosy stay. Its not the first time we've stayed at The Boat and it won't be the last. The hotel is in a great location with plently of walking & cycling from the doorstep and views which are difficult to beat. And after a day on the hill or in the saddle to come in to a warm shower, cosy room, a beer by the fire & some fantastic food is just perfect. And what makes this place even more special is how the staff make you feel i.e. like they really want you to be there. We will be back, I hope very soon.

“Lovely Lunch”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

We popped in for the soup & sandwich deal for a late lunch. We were warmly welcomed when walked into the hotel & again when we entered the restaurant.

We went in about 2.30pm & we were the only people there. I can only assume it was because their lunch service was nearly done. We only wanted something fairly light so soup & a sandwich was ideal. Both were lovely. The waiter was very attentive.

The bistro is nice & cosy with a roaring log fire & stunning views. We will definitely be back.
