Have stayed in this hotel on a couple of occasions, both for one night and both as stopovers on the way to/from the islands.

On both ocasions we stayed in the Cedar wing and i am surprised by how negative some of the reviews are. Yes it looks a bit motel like from the car park and the stairs and balcony for the upper level have seen better days and are a little rickety though perfectly safe, but once you open the door into the room all that is forgotten. The rooms are adequate in interior appearance but certainly not stunning, but the view out the glass frontage is absolutely stunning and i dont think you will get a better view from any hotel room in Scotland. Add to that there is patio access onto private a balcony or patio depending what level you are on with seating and it makes a very pleasent place to while away the hours. And the main purpose of a hotel is somewhere to sleep - the beds were very comfortable indeed.

On our first visit we did not arrive until half ten at night and had already eaten, however the lady on reception still asked if she could get us anything to eat. This was very impressive as i wouldnt dream of asking for food at that time as it is well above the call of duty for a smallish country hotel.

The second visit was part of a tour of the islands for our Honeymoon, so we visited the restaurant. Again this is an unusual experience and we were a bit apprehensive about being asked to come to the lounge half an hour before our booked seating time, it turned out this was very relaxing to have a drink while selecting our meal then being left to flick through the large variety of books, chat and soak up the view while our meal was cooked. The food and service was very good - we went for the fixed menus of 4 courses which had some quite unusual food and we always enjoy trying new things. Service was extremely friendly the only blip was when my wife asked for a small white wine and the waitress returned with a large red - however as we have a sense of humour and didnt want to waste the wine we just kept quiet about it and drank up!

Breakfast on both our stays was fine in quality but perhaps a little slow to arrive however with the view out the front window you wont be in any rush. I cant remember the check out time but it was relatively late and there was time to stroll down the 100 yards in front of the hotel to the shore which is a lovely rocky bay and laze around for a while before returning and checking out.

As for price, there are a few comments below about this hotel being a bit on the expensive side. I would agree the headline rate appears quite steep but not too bad with respect to comparable hotels across Scotland. As someone who grew up in a tourist dependent location, i am sympathetic to the fact that most visitors seem to see businesses on a busy summer day and multiply the likely takings by 365, concluding the owner is raking it in. In reality the season in remote locations in Scotland is extremely short and perhaps only 20% of the year is truly profitable for these businesses. I think that is why across the country hotels and b and bs can seem expensive, when compared to inner city locations where trade is more or less constant throughout the year.

All in all a very pleasant stay with owners and staff who make you feel welcome and a location you are unlikely to forget. Highly recommended.

Spent a wonderful Christmas at Loch Melfort despite the atrocious weather. The food was excellent but the seafood buffet on Boxing Day was the star of the show. All the staff were friendly and helpful and contributed hugely to a memorable stay. Loch Melfort is a 'must' place to visit in either summer or winter.

One of the most beautifully situated hotels I've ever been to. Great staff, excellent food. The rooms aren't amazingly stylish but they are warm and comfortable (as are the beds) and everything works. We were there for 3 nights for the Hogmanay party, which was great, with a local couple singing and playing accordion and one of the hotel's owners playing fiddle - huge fun. Lovely lounges, one with a log fire, both with the same beautiful views. There was also a gorgeous panelled library that we did not have time to explore. We think we'll be going again ..... but will probably hire a car next time. There's only one decent walk straight out of the hotel (but it is great, up to the local trig point for fantastic views over the islands) and the local road is quite busy.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 1st floor of the Cedars wing have great views - but then, I'm sure, do the room...

We were here on an offer which moderated the cost somewhat. The setting is quite beyond comparison and with a tremendous sunset and an almost as impressive sunrise the views were fantastic. The bistro was closed so all meals were in the dining room which was fine as we were allowed to mix and match from the two menus. The food is great if a bit pricey, but with our voucher it was within my normal budget. The room was well appointed but the wifi didn't get that far so we had to sit in the lounge to use it, but that wasn't a hardship. If we can get a similar deal in the future we'll be back.

My husband saw a DBB deal for Loch Melfort online. Although we had been around Tarbert in Argyll and further north to Oban many times we had never visited Arduaine. What a stunning spot! Looking out on Arknish bay and view down to the islands of the inner Hebrides is just breathtaking.
Our room was lovely and even better dog friendly so our gorgeous black lab could join us. Although I am sure there are specified dog friendly rooms you would never know - they are immaculate! There were large patio windows which led to our private patio looking out to sea - perfect.
We ate in the restaurant as opposed to the bistro and although as a vegetarian I didn't expect much of a choice, the food was simply gorgeous. If you are a seafood lover as is my husband, this is the place for you.
Dogs are not allowed in the communal areas but this was no problem as we were out for most of the day and had our lovely patio.
We would highly recommend you visit this hidden coastline of Scotland - just perfect!

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review and we are so glad that you all enjoyed your stay, including the dog! We do try hard to ask people for dietary requirements before they arrive and that way Peter can ensure there is a lovely choice of food on the menu, whatever you like or don't! We hope that you will come back and see us again soon.

Loch Melfort Hotel can be found in the most beautiful situation beside the sea and with stunning views from your room. This was our second visit and the lodge rooms have been upgraded to a very acceptable standard. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and there is an abundance of information on the local area and the beautiful wooded gardens at Arduaine.
Food was excellent and we enjoyed a seven course gourmet dinner.
If I ever get married again I will surely book this hotel for my reception.
A little peace of Scotland you will never forget.
I look forward to another visit in the future.
My thanks to all the staff.
