I stayed here with my family in September for four nights and we had a great time. The house is very well-equipped with four large and comfortable bedrooms and an excellent kitchen. The living area looks out onto the islands of the Inner Hebrides with a huge set of sliding doors that are a great feature of the house. Communication with the owner was excellent and they were very helpful. The house is raised up a bit from the main coastal road which gives it excellent views, so the approaches to it by foot or vehicle are short and steep, but we managed ok. We were lucky to get three days of good weather and saw red squirrels and an eagle from the cottage. The view of the night sky from the decking in the front garden was incredible.
After a 10 hour journey we arrived at Grannda Mhor to be greeted by a spectacular view and a wonderful house.
You can sit and watch the view for hours from the outside decking or the comfort of the leather sofas and the provided binoculars and telescopes are very handy. We saw seals on the island across the water and watched many a boat leaving or returning to Croabh Haven just to the south.
The house is well appointed and very comfortable; a great place to stay with family or friends with 4 large bedrooms and plenty of additional space to spread out.
Oban is 25 minutes north and there is a lot to see or do in the vinicity, come rain or shine.
Would be great at any time of the year.
Wow what a stunning cottage 10 out of 10 I must say . No expense spared . Decore to the highest standards. O and what a view to top it off . Will return it's a must
The views from the house over the loch are absolutely stunning and wonderful whatever the weather conditions and we would have been delighted with the house for this reason alone. The viewing telescopes were fun and added to the sense of enjoyment of the location.
However, in addition, the house has been decorated and furnished to an exceptional standard with beautifully tiled bathrooms, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and bed linen. This made our stay even more of a pleasure. There had clearly been a lot of thought put into the amenities far beyond the basics which we greatly appreciated; the generous supply of glasses, cutlery, crockery, kitchen tools and cooking equipment particularly large pots and serving dishes. Though we did not have time to use the outside decking, furniture and barbecue equipment this was a great facility to have and added to the sense of space in the house.
The owners had provided a comprehensive information pack with welcome note and we also appreciated the flowers and wine on arrival which made us feel very welcome.
Having the Arduaine gardens nearby was great and It was good to be able to walk down to the water with the little jetty down below the house.
We could not have asked for more at the house - we had a lovely time and would thoroughly recommend it.
Every year we (3 couples who like our home-comforts!) try to take a trip away and always aim to find somewhere special to stay. Well, Grannda Mhor surpassed all expectations; as you walk into the house you are greeted with a beautifully laid out open-plan space, but your eye is drawn to the huge picture window and the stunning views beyond! It brings an instant peace and real wow-factor; you could just sit and watch the colours change for hours.....stunning in all weathers!
The rooms are all a great size and all fixtures, fittings and finishings were lovely; somebody with a great eye for detail and style has obviously had a hand in the interior design and finishing touches. The beds were comfy and the kitchen is also really well laid out with everything you would need when catering for big numbers; properly sharp knives, good sized pans and plenty of space for keeping the beers and wine chilled!
When making the booking I found West Coast Cottages to be friendly, helpful, clear and proactive in their communications. They were a pleasure to deal with i every regard and I would recommend them to anybody looking for a nice place to stay on the west coast.
(As an aside, I hadn't realised what a wealth of fascinating, historic sites there are in the area; definitely worth looking into! After a walk we had a nice lunch at the museum in Kilmartin.....the cakes are to be recommended and there is space to sit outside with the dogs!)
