I booked this because of it's situation, surrounded by greenery in need of a few days of relaxation. The pictures on the web page are as the property and view are.

Matthew and Yvonne have a beautiful property, are excellent host's helpful, charming and discreet.

We had the Hill room which was fantastically spacious with a great big bed. It had everything we needed and was perfect for a relaxing.

Breakfast served to preference, poached egg's each morning were perfect. dining tends to be with other guests. We were lucky with our fellow guests as all were very amiable.

This was the first stop on a weeks holiday to Scotland, a fantastic start and would love to visit again some day.

Room Tip: I chose the Hill room for a view of the tree's. One thing I miss living overseas. Bathroom and b...

We stayed for only one night on or way to Mull at the end of 6 weeks traveling in Europe, and were the only guests that night. Due to the Oban Highland Games finishing that weekend, Matthew was not cooking in the evening, but recommended we ate at the Shower of Herring Restaurant next door and reserved a table for us. This proved to be an excellent, low-key restaurant with fun staff and an easy five minute stroll from the house.

Our room was large, nicely furnished, and had a comfy bed and cozy blankets. The bathroom and bedroom were spotless and quite lovely, much better than your average 5 star hotel. We had little interaction with our hosts during our stay, but were welcomed with an afternoon cup of tea and Scottish pancakes which we ate in the drawing room which as a lovely view out to Loch Melfort.

You can basically park your car and walk for the duration of your stay at the B&B, which for the one night suited us perfectly.

Breakfast was lovely and a very relaxing stat to the key.

We would defnately stay at Melfort House again and look forward to another longer stay in the future.

One of the best b&bs we have stayed in with the added bonus of serving evening meals. The room was spacious with a great big bath which was very welcome after a days walking. The evening meals were an example of Scottish cooking at it's best.

Excellent food, room, company, location and service. We opted for the loch suite which had superb views and was spacious, well furnished and spotless. The food was imaginative, tasty and well-presented. Matthew is a good host and is very knowledgeable about the local area. We visited the Oban brewery and museum. Took a boat trip from Croabh harbour to see the beautiful surrounding islands and wildlife- superb.

Decor, surrounding views, location, food, hospitality are all amazing! Certainly one of the very best B&B's we have ever stayed in. The evening meal we had was outstanding. We had to leave early in the morning to catch a ferry and Matthew said it was no problem and said he would get up and make breakfast for us whenever suited. The standard of accommodation was of the highest quality, we would have loved to have stayed longer. A real "find"!

Melfort House was the last three days of our two + weeks in Scotland, and it was the highlight. Matthew and Yvonne have a content, happy and interesting home, with hospitality brimming from every corner. Yvonne shared her polytunnel vegetable/flower garden with us over wine, and then Matthew created superb meals from the freshest of fresh. My wife has some complex food allergies, and Matthew took them on as a challenge, with exceptional results. Their youngest daughter, Georgie, was a delight to meet, and we were treated to a level of relaxation and comfort as good as any five-star hotel in London or Paris. The principal rooms are large, the furniture comfy and the evening fires with coffee (and fudge!) were sumptuous.
This is the best place to either begin or end a trip - we were so sorry to leave.

Room Tip: All the rooms are perfect and quite large. Quiet retreats.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Do spend more than one night if you are on your way further North; better still stay longer here and make it a special holiday; the area around Melfort House is gorgeous, it is quiet, beautiful and off the tourist route.
The luxury of the rooms is unsurpassable ( the view from the Loch Suite will stay in your memory forever) the beds are comfortable and huge and the bathrooms are perfect. Matthew's cooking is Michelin standard.. and more, with local produce including fruit and veg from Yvonne's impressive and productive polytunnel and, if you are lucky, lobster or crab from his own pots in the loch. Matthew and Yvonne are wonderful hosts and their guests are made to feel so very welcome
You really will not want to leave

Room Tip: Go for the Loch Suite, but all the rooms are really excellent.
