“Beautiful area but terrible service”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

This is one of the prettiest spots we visited in Sardinia, we drove around the whole Island. There was a wild tortoise on arrival, and the setting is beautiful, house from the outside is stunning with a lovely pool too. However, I am sorry to write that the rooms are un-clean, mosquito spattered walls and bathroom dirty. The service is absolutely horrific, as is the breakfast, stale croissant with not much else and you have to beg for milk by interrupting one of the staff from their cigarette break. It is quite apparent that the owner lives in Milan and there is no onsite management of the staff. Such a shame as this could be a real gem.
The restaurant is good, massively over priced wine with nothing from Sardinia, weird when you have vinyards less than five mins away, we ended up spending £50+. The food was good but not the variety of options you would hope for. A small bottle of water in your room costs a fortune, stock up well in advance before going or nip to the natural spring nearby!

My husband and I spent two nights at the Agnata in June 2011. We were expecting something slightly different, somehow i thought it would be more of an agriturismo rather than a hotel, but we had a lovely time anyways. The garden is gorgeous and that itself makes the place very relaxing and welcoming. I think that is what I loved the most about the place, the peace and quiet, the smell of the jasmin bushes. The food is good, some dishes better than others, and the set dinner menus consist in a 3-course meal with a choice between meat- or fish-based. There is not the abundance of courses that you usually find in agriturismos in central/northern sardinia but then again, l'Agnata is a so-called rural hotel not an agriturismo. It takes a bit to get there and we took a few wrong turns in Tempio before getting on the right road out of the city, which eventually leads to the Agnata area. I would say from Tempio it takes about 20 minutes to get to the hotel.

Most travellers just go towards the clear water Sardegnian beaches, but we were on a motorcycle trip and wanted to also visit the internal beauties of the island. The Gallura region offers the best of both experiences, and we wanted to treat ourselves to well with regards to accomodations. This little and secluded retreat met our expectations. Very quiet and cozy atmosphere and clean and spacious rooms. Beautiful surroundings of green hills, viewed from the refreshing pool area . Magical atmosphere and good food. It doesn't come cheap, but it was worth the money spent for sure.

In the heart of the beautiful wooded hills of the Gallura region, down a little country lane which seems to lead nowhere, you will find the Agnata De Andre’. Part hotel, part restaurant, this Agrirurismo is one of the finest in Sardinia. Some are working farms offering basic rooms, while others are rustic restaurants serving diners local dishes made with local ingredients. The Agnata offers both a high standard of accommodation, easily the equivalent of a four star hotel, and excellent food.
This particular Agriturismo has an interesting history, Italian singer/songwriter Fabrizio De Andre’ left the rat race for this rural idyll in the 1970’s. What he has done with the farm is nothing short of incredible, the landscaping (which includes an artificial lake as well as a spring fed swimming pool) is breathtaking. The setting is extremely peaceful, if you’re looking for somewhere to relax and to recharge your batteries, there can be few places better than this.
Accommodation is either in the main house or in the recently added annex next to the pool. Rooms are of a high standard with a good sized en suite shower room. All the usual features are provided such as TV, telephone (if you’re late for dinner they’ll phone and tell you!) and air conditioning. I’m no expert but the furniture looks antique and fits in well with the surroundings.
I opted for the half board option which included breakfast, dinner or lunch for an additional 20 Euros. Breakfast was a little disappointing both in terms of content and service, the buffet was fairly limited and staff sometimes hard to find if anything was missing. The restaurant, however, was infinitely better offering an almost never ending supply of courses. Typically there would be an antipasto, two pasta dishes, a main course, dessert and coffee. The starter and pasta courses were particularly good, as was the house wine. The main courses seemed to feature pork a lot which isn’t always to everyone’s taste. There was no choice or menu, all you needed was a big appetite and time on your hands.
I will no doubt return to the Agnata and spend a few more days there and recommend you do too. I went in May when it was fairly quiet and the temperature was perfect. Don’t expect a signal for your phone, broadband or English speaking TV, you need them or miss them. The nearest town is eight miles away but you won’t need that either, you’ll be too busy enjoying doing nothing in this little corner of paradise.

This hotel is in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. It was owned by the Italian singer/songwriter and poet, Fabrizio de Andre, who died of lung cancer in 1999. The hotel comprises the original house which now houses the dining room- glass fronted- overlooking the extensive lawns, and a separate two storey accomodation block with about 10 rooms overlooking the oval swimming pool. Just getting to the hotel is an adventure. It is situated about 5km from Tempio Pausania, a medium sized town in N.E. Sardinia. At the turning for San Bachisio you turn into a steep sided wooded valley, and then drive about 6/7 km along a twisting tarmaced road which is just wide enough to allow two small cars to pass. Watch out for the tortoise and the snakes (only little)and eventually you arrive at the entrance driveway. Follow this for another few hundred metres, past a large pond till you reach the car park under the myrtle trees. Walk up to the house under a canopy of grape vines, for a lovely italian welcome. Unfortunately English is in short supply so a little bit of Italian is useful. The rooms in the accommodation block are newly built and totally peaceful, well furnished with top quality fittings. The food is typical Sardinian cuisine and plenty of it. Breakfasts are cereals and cakes and fruit, and the evening meal is a fixed menu. Wines are deliciious and are literally from the other side of the hill. Most of the bottled water in Sardinia is Smeralda brand, which comes from Tempio Pausania, so this hotel was the only place on our holiday where we got a jug of water. Coffees after the meal were included in the half board price so although not cheap you do get a good deal for your money. The photographs with the previous report only portray a fraction of what this place is like, it really is a paradise. Although off the beaten track it is an easy drive to the Costa Smeralda and the north coast, and the granite scenery is spectacular.
