Le Mata Hari has the most beautiful setting, it sits right on a small beach with views to Calvi harbour and the Citadel and on a good day (when the high winds are not in attendance), the outdoor seating, by candle light, with your feet in the sand and watching a fabulous sunset, is as a romantic setting as any other you can find ( in our opinion).

The service is exceptional, with all the team being very attentive, quick but invisible as all good service should be. As we speak only a little French, although we could make out some of the 20 or, so choices presented on a blackboard ( specials of the day), some of the dishes eluded us. Without any request, our server took us through each of the dishes in English and explained every course.

There is a a set menu and then a specials blackboard too, the restaurant serves a mix of Corsican classics and some Asian influences.

Starters (between about 13-17 euros) We opted for the ravioli with prawns and vegetables in a hoi sin type sauce and the tuna salad. The ravioli was thin and soft and contents went really well with the sauce. The salad was huge and a main course all of its own.

Mains; (20-30 euros) we opted for the filet of John Dory and the filet of beef. Both were well cooked and melted in your mouth.

Desserts ( 8-12 euro) and by this time we were full! Were a raspberry panna cotta and a fine apple tart. Again both were delicious.

Wine was 5 euro a glass or average 30 euro a bottle.

Just a couple of miles out I Calvi before you get to Lumio, definitely take a trip out as this beats all the Clavi beach restaurants.

After travelling the short distance from Calvi to spend an afternoon at the lovely small beach, my wife and I decided to reserve a table at this Restaurant for the following evening; we even chose our preferred table!

Well, what can I say.... this turned out to be our best meal during our two weeks holiday in Calvi.

The food, (we opted for the Menu), was well-cooked, well-presented and extremely tasty. They wine suggested was excellent; the Restaurant's position could not have been better; but the stars of the show were the people running "Front of House". They were , every single one of them, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and professional. In my last position, (before retiring last year), as Restaurant Manager at Ellenborough Park in Cheltenham, I would have offered them all a job in my Brigade!

Of course, quality cost and this is not a cheap place to dine, but good value when you consider the position of the Restaurant and the quality of both food and service!

From a fellow professional, a sincere thank-you to the whole team at "Le Mata Hari".

The food we had there was good (we both had the menu), service was friendly and speedy and the location absolutely fantastic. In terms of taste it was good, but there is a little bit of room for refinement. We'd go there again.

Corsica is both beautiful and wild, thankfully not defaced by mass tourism so the selection is both limited and usually expensive. We originally intended to cook at home until our landlady recommended Mata Hari which was just down the (poorly paved) road. The potholes were worth it and we could hardly believe our eyes when we saw it on the beach. I wanted to remarry my husband on the spot it was so romantic. The fusion menu is finely tuned, and over the next few days we tried out most things. Excellent quality and steep prices, yes. But you get what you pay for, since the attention to detail, commitment to hospitality, and professional pride is apparent in so many small details. Special thanks to Jerome. Next time we'll save up and plan half-board there!

We always visit Mata Hari twice if staying in Calvi.
The beach is superb (but I think that 12 euros is a bit steep for a lounger) and the food is of the highest quality, although their prices were a bit steep.A minus was that they seemed to be running out of wines-I guess that last week in September is getting near to the end of their season-The location is idyllic and the staff are very efficient and friendly. To get a table on the beach edge you need to book.It really is worth the pricing!
