“Perfect weekend in Corsica”
Reviewed January 19, 2012

My partner and I were in the middle of our 4 month long pretty intense Eurotrip and needed a quite place to relax. While a certain BOOKING site showed the hotel as fully booked, we managed to get a room by directly contacting the hotel and at a better rate than advirtised.

Hotel is located in an excellent location - right off the "highway" (Make sure to adjust to Corsica's highways on the Cape side - you will be doing 50-60km/h max as the road quality and difficulty level will be quite challenging; we drove from Bastia and it is a good 40 min drive). Rooms are spacious and clean, staff is very friendly and attentive; we got multiple recommendations for places to see, restaurants to eat and just a very friendly atmosphere. Hotel has a really nice patio overlooking the marina and nearby area with hot tub, a adjacent bar / restaurant area. Our room had a balcony with a great view of Macinaggio and surrounding hills.
I highly recommend both to visit Cape Corsica and explore nearby towns and have a one day hike along the coast and while do this - stay at Marina d'Oro.

Room Tip: Ask for side rooms with balcony overlooking both the marina and the surrounding hills

This hotel is just fine, everything looks okay and clean and the location is perfect. However, mind your head. On the stairs there's a low ceiling and our room on the top floor had very low hanging roof as well. No signs at all to warn you about it.

Oh, and ignore the jacuzzi. It's small and was very cold when we were there. Don't believe they refresh the water very often neither.

We spent three nights in this hotel and LOVED it.

The staff were friendly, helpful and proud to share their love of Corsica. The location was a amazing and the views gorgeous. Our room was spacious, clean and the balcony was perfect for sipping wine on a sunny afternoon.

The owner told me the original building itself is from the 17th century, and they've modernised it in a way that makes it more than acceptable in the 21st century, yet still has a magical old feel to it.

The room and bathroom is very clean and all is good.

The rooftop spa is a bit of a let down. The water was yellow and uninviting. Not sure what went wrong there.

We didn't have breakfast as we thought that the price was a bit high for what was on offer.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay here and would love to return.

Room Tip: Side rooms with balcony are less windy than the front room.

We stayed in this lovely hotel for two nights and the beginning of our sojourn on Corsical. There were 3 couples and we all had lovely rooms - two overlooking the harbour. We were welcomed upon our arrival by the really friendly staff, shown to our rooms which were spotless with great bathrooms.
There are good restaurants across the road and breakfast in the hotel was brilliant. As many pastries, baguette, confiture and fruit as you wish, good coffee and fruit juice.
The position of the hotel is brilliant. We really could not believe our luck at finding such a nice hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the harbour are great

We only stayed one night but we loved it! Very clean room, very spacious and stylish. Basic amenities all present. The bathroom was big and spotless. Everything feels quiet, comfortable and simple. Food at breakfast does not come in a great variety but the little room with view over the port in which is served makes the experience very positive. The personnel is very friendly and helpful.
I would surely stay there again!

My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Marina D' Oro and were there on our 25th wedding anniversary on 05/30/11. During the 18 nights of our trip to France, we stayed at much more expensive and what some might say "more luxurious" hotels than the Marina D'Oro. However, none of them compared to our unforgetable stay at this lovely hotel. The hotel owner (Dominic Frederica) and his niece (Carole) bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. Carole served us a delicious contentental breakfast (with all the espresso or capucinno we wanted) in the mornings with a warm and genuine smile for only 8 Euros per person. When we left Dominic talked about how we had become "family" during our short stay. The rooms were very very clean, the beds very were comfortable, the air conditioning was the best of any hotel we stayed at on this trip and most of all the staff was warm and genuine. The rooms were not fancy but were well appointed and modern with a nice cold refrigerator in each room. The view of the harbor with the fishing and recreational boats was lovely. We cannot say enough good things about the Marina d' Oro. It was the best value and the best hotel we stayed at during our 25th anniversay trip. We hope to return one day!!! The surrounding area had a lot to offer as well (don't miss the neach at the Bay of Tamarone and the nauture preserve). Let the jet setters have Nice and it's crowds and high prices. We'll take Macinaggio and Corsica over it any time!

We stayed at this hotel because it was the #1 hotel in Macinaggio and rated so highly. I have to admit that there isn't much else in Macinaggio so perhaps that is why. We paid for the best room and did have a nice balcony overlooking the pretty harbor. However, our room was small, the bed was small and hard, and it just wasn't anything more than a very average room. The bathroom was fairly updated but the materials used seemed rather cheap (the plastic soap dish fell off the wall and the toilet seat had "give" to it. There also did not seem to be a lot of insulation between rooms as we heard our neighbors loud and clear, particularly when they came in at about midnight and we thought someone was coming into our room! Also, the only internet access was in the lobby, which was okay but not great. I have to mention that everything was very clean and I would like to commend the staff. The people at reception and the cleaning staff were all extremely nice and helpful.
