we had been looking for ages for a nice and affordable holiday accomodation in Greece when we found this one on the internet. I can totally recommend it, the service was really good, we were picked up from the airport directly and teh rooms are cleaned every day. The hosts are very nice people.
The room and the bathroom were small but that doesnt really matter as you have a big balcony and the weather was too good to be inside anyway! The airconditioner was very helpful and the room nicely furnished and very clean.
The place was very quite apart from occasional (nice) music from the typically greek restaurants close by.
The pool is very nice as well as the close beaches and the mountains, to hikers Id resommend to climb the hill to Lakones and Anglocastro, beautiful views!
Many offers for tourists are made, boat trips for example which I can also recommend.
There are litlle shops in walking distance and the busstop to Corfu-town which lies aproximately 20 minutes from the accomodation is right in front of the studios.
we had a lovely holiday!

This was our first visit to Palaeokastritsa,Corfu. The area is beautiful, we could not have chosen a better place to spend a two week holiday. The Marilena Apartments/studios are brilliant. We booked with Monarch and had a spacious 2-bedroomed apartment with views over the mountains. The lady who cleans the apartment works really hard and keeps them spotlessly clean. Also the gardens and pool area are looked after to a very high standard. On some days we had the pool to ourselves it was like having your own private pool. The bathroom was superb, finished to a very high standard. Beds were a little hard but you cannot have everything. Well done to Helena and all her staff!

Palaeokastritsa was very quite during our stay, last week of June and first week of July. The locals said that it has been very quite this year. There are many good restaurants in the the area choose from. We used Oasis retaurant across the road, the food was brilliant and the staff were excellent. You must try their lamb stifado! Also Spiros's restaurant is really good, the staff there are also very friendly. You are spoilt for choice for eating out.

We walked up the mountain to the village of Lakones, which is a lovely old greek village with stunning views over the bays. The walk is about 45 mins to an hour (depending how fit you are) on the old track. Whilst in Lakones go up to Dolce's cafe (the old bakery) for the best views and lovely food. It is quite a long walk into Paleo but it is a nice walk with lovely views of the bay. The boat trips are very expensive for just 35mins, about 10 euros. We hired a boat for the day which was well worth it. I would definately go back, all in all it was a very chilled out holiday. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Marilena from 12th July 2010 to 20th July 2010. The apartment complex was beautiful. The apartments were immaculately clean, and had beautiful views. The people who ran the apartments were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you - nothing was too much trouble. The apartments are cleaned every day - the lady who did the cleaning shamed us to death the first day we were there by washing our pots from breakfast, so we made sure we washed up straight after eating!! The lady who did the cleaning was the most pleasant lady ever - always smiling. The weather was scorching while we were there, so if you haven't pre booked air con then it's advisable to get it (5euros per night - well worth it!). The swimming pool is lovely and warm, and even though we went in July it was as though we had our own private pool. You can go in the pool at whatver time you like - no-one shouting at you to be out by 8pm. The apartment grounds are lovely and well kept - lots of lemon trees and lime trees and an abundance of very well looked after flowers and plants. Over the road from the apartments are a couple of restaurants which are worth a visit. There is a supermarket opposite the apartments also, which is open until 10pm every night and is very reasonably priced. (Closes at 2pm on Sunday, but if you turn right out of the apaprtment block there are another few shops). Next door to the Marilena is the Mermaid (boasting the biggest pool in Paleo) and this is open free to the public. Taxi transfers from the airport if you haven't got them work out at 40euros there and 40euros back. If you turn right out of the apartments, there is a car / bike / quad hire place (Niko's). you can hire a scooter for 80euros for the full week. we hired quads for 20 euros for the full day. I have never driven abroad before, but the roads are very quiet and the Corfu drivers seem to be very careful. We drove up to Lakones (about 20mins drive) and the views are remarkable - well worth a visit. To get to the beach, turn right out of the apartments and walk till you come to the Akotiri Beach Hotel - you get to the beach through here. If you can manage the steps, a visit to La Grotta is a must (just before the akotiri hotel). From there you can hire a boat - if you do anything when you go to Paleo, then this is an absolute MUST! It costs 60 euros for the whole day, and about 40 euros for your fuel. You can visit about 15 other beaches - all were deserted when we went, and many are only accessible by boat. Anchor up and swim to shore and its like having your own private beach. There are also caves you can drive into. Best 100 euros I have ever spent. Paleo is the most beautiful place - the people are so friendly, and eager to chat. They make you feel so very welcome. Worth a mention is the Cactus bar (just opposite La Grotta, before the akotiri hotel) where the staff again were brilliant. We found that the area wasn't busy, and people went out at night at about 9pm, but near the marilena things quietened down at about 1am (although they are willing to stay up as long as you want them to!) We will definitely visit again, and will definitely be staying at the Marilena again.

A very good value apartment, small but perfectly formed with a generous balcony area and comfortable beds. The pool and grounds are beautifully maintained and the housekeeping amazing. It's located on the outskirts of Paleo set back from the fairly busy road into the main beach area . There's a good supermarket , two restaurant/bars and a bus stop within 1 min walk. The nearest beach is 15-20min walk but worth the trip, the main beach is 40 min walk- much better by bus!
The apartments themselves are quite and peaceful making for a very relaxed and enjoyable holiday. If you want to get out and about a bit more then car hire would be good but we had a thoroughly good inexpensive holiday. I would certainly recommend it

Marilena's apartments are owned and run by Eleni and her family. We booked independently and from the beginning the service was excellent. Eleni could not accommodate us for all of our holiday (which I had requested having read previous good reviews). She did however find nearby accommodation for our last two nights and organised all of our move, including personally giving us a lift there and sorting out all the prompt taxi services back and to to the airport. Marilena's apartments are extremely clean and provide a better standard of accommodation than I have previously experienced in numerous apartments in Greece. The apartments are on the smaller side but they are more than adequate and the facilities, cleanliness, and service more than compensate for having a slightly smaller room. This was a view shared by other guests we spoke to. The pool and setting is lovely (Marilena's is at the top end of Paleo, near some good restaurants and beaches). There is the well known 20 minute-ish walk up and down the hilly road into the main resort but this did not present any problem for two not particularly fit people! The Aghia Triada and Lipades beaches nearby are quieter and, we felt, the more picturesque beach areas. Paleo overall is beautiful and we would definately choose to stay at Marilena's again.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment (no.5) at the Marilena, having booked through Cosmos/Monarch. I was a bit apprehensive as I knew that the apartments were at the top of a very steep hill. But my fears were quickly calmed on arrival. The walk down to the bay takes around 40 mins, and isn't at all steep - it gently winds down to the beach and gives you numerous opportunities to take in the spectacular views.

The apartments are beautiful, and Eleni and Maria (Eleni's Mum) are delightful and keep the place immaculate. The pool area is lovely, and we had it to ourselves most days, where we enjoyed perfect weather.

There is a well-stocked supermarket nearby, and several wonderful restaurants. We particularly enjoyed the Oasis and Horizon tavernas.

Highly recommended for quiet break.
