We visited here September 2012, a last minute decision. The family that own this complex are very friendly and can't do enough for you. We had an excellent holiday. The Marelena Studios are in and excellent position perfect for sightseeing and plenty of restaurants and bars to visit within walking distance. The pool area is excellent and spotlessly clean, there is no pool bar which makes it the perfect place to chill. The apartments are again spotlessly clean and are a good size, it was nice to have a decent size kitchen and outdoor eating area. Overall this complex was a lovely place to be, very relaxing. Eleni and her family are doing a good job.

Eleni, Maria and family run a lovely set of holiday apartments and studios with nice private pool where you can relax and unwind after a day out as it is in full sun until sunset. The welcome and service is wonderful and we like it so much we go back year after year its like visiting old friends you are made that welcome. Everywhere is cleaned everyday and the apartments have very well equipped kitchens should you wish to cook on holiday. We prefer to go to Spiros Taverna over the road where the food is absolutely gorgeous and Spiros family are very welcoming.
We like to do a lot of walking so we go in May and sometimes September when it is not too hot there are a lot of good walks in the olive groves and up the hills to Lakones ,Liapades and Dukades villages well worth a visit. There is a lovely bakery at the end of Lakones where you can eat cake and drink coffee on the balcony while looking out over the bays of Paleo from a great height and Corfu town in the distance. In Dukades you can sit in the village square drinking coffee or beer listening to the old men of the village put the world to rights! all greek to me. In Liapades there is a lovely Village Taverna that makes gorgeous pizzas but you need 2 to eat 1 pizza they are so big. In the village square there is Browns cafe bar where we call for coffee, beer or ginger beer and a chat with Christina an English lady who runs it with her husband before going for a walk through the olive groves if you fancy or you can walk down to Ravinia beach or Liapades beach.Thats without going down through Paleo itself to the monastery and main bay.
You can also get the bus to Corfu town and Eleni will tell you the best places to visit one of which is the British Cemetery where there are lots of tortoises. Old Corfu town is well worth the trip especially near the sea front.
We have been going to Paleo for 7 years and have stayed in other apartments but Marilena is the best on all counts and have recommended it to friends and relatives who have also enjoyed holidays there.

We found Marlilena to be a really lovely place to stay. Eleni and her family were absolutely lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. The studio is very comfortable and clean with a lovely big balcony. The swimming pool is tucked away behind the building and so not on the road like other places.
I would recommend hiring a cat as the studios are a few Km out of town and the road is very narrow and tricky to walk down.
Overall it is a really good base to explore the gorgeous island.

We have just returned from our second visit to Marilena apartments, booked direct with Eleni. There are cheaper complexes available but having stayed in several on Corfu and on other islands we have not found any that come anywhere near to these.
The apartments are a fair walk from the main beaches (approx. 1 & 1/2 miles) but there are paths down to smaller closer ones however if you just want to chill by the pool this is the place for you. There is no pool bar but as it is a self catering complex but this is an advantage as there is a reasonably well stocked supermarket just over the road that sold everything we wanted and it means you can take your own drinks to the pool and not spend a fortune buying cans, etc. from a pool bar on site.
The actual apartments provide everything you could want with a brand new very well equipped kitchen, shower with enclosure and good size bedrooms. The mattresses are "firm" to say the least but not unbearable and I guess they have to made to last!
Eleni's daughters and her mother Maria ensure that the apartments are absolutely spotless and are always extremely polite and welcoming. Cleaned daily and loo rolls provided which was a first!
Eleni will also arrange taxi transfers if you need them from the airport. Safe, WiFi & Air Con were included in the price.
We will definitely be going back to Paleokastritsa and when we do we will be staying here
Thanks Eleni & family for a great holiday x

Just returned from a fab week at - Marilena Studios and apartments are located at the end of the Paleokastritsa main road going out of Paleo. The grounds and studio (we stayed in no. 8) were spotless and just perfect for a weeks stay. There's no bar area so the general public don't have access to the fantastic hidden gem - the swimming pool at the back of the property raised high into the mountain side. Fantastic sun at the pool area until sunset which means you still can get some sun when you come back from your day trips. We purchased the aircon at an extra 40 euros for the week, wi-fi for an extra 10 euros a week and we stayed an extra night for an extra 20 euros. Well worth it as our flight was very early in the morning. The studio was cleaned daily and Maria (Grandma) kept doing our washing up for us !! and left us with a beautiful room to come back to each day.

Now this is where they were brilliant - we locked ourselves out of the studio (on day 1) with both keys inside !! plonkers !! - Maria had to undo the beading from the bathroom window and get one of her grandkids to shimmy through the window and let us in. Very embarrassing but all done without fuss or bother.

Ok, location - not brilliant if you don't have a hire car or scooter as it's quite a walk down to the harbour. You can walk but it's 4Km and in the heat by anyone's standard that's a trek. There are a few spots for swimming locally but not suitable for kids.

Shops - great supermarket opposite. Lovely people.
Restaurants - Spiros opposite, good Greek food - ££
Tango - 1Km towards Paleo. Typical but good bar food - £ with pool table. This was our favourite and we went here 4 nights.
Horizon - 1.5Km towards Paleo - ££, it was ok but nothing to write home about.
Petrinas - 1.5Km towards Paleo - ££ very dissappointing - would not go back

Scooter hire - George Michaelas is just left out the apartments. We paid 150 Euros for a 90cc Scooter including fully comp insurance (excess 200 Euros) and helmets for 6 days. Not cheap but the bike was in good condition - large wheels and good brakes - extremely important in Corfu if you are going to do any travelling. There is also Nikos just down the road and turn right out of the apartments.

Access to the sea !! - our favourite bit !!

Acopulco Bar - turn left out of the apartments and walk about 200m. On the right and down a track is a hidden bar which looks out over the water. If you buy a drink you can use their pool or go down the cliff walk and spend all day jumping and diving off the rocks or sunbathe on their floating pontoon. Fabulous. (no beach)
La Grotta - turn right out of the apartments and walk about 300m and you come across the most amazing location. It looks very trendy with a wooden door entrance but it's not at all. Its just a good bar with good music and access to some fantastic jumping, diving and snorkelling spots. My 16yr old had a ball followed very closely by me. This is an amazing spot. (no beach)

Out of town.

We took the North west coast route out of Paleo, up in to the mountains and visited numerous beaches until we got to Sidari and Canal D'Amour. The canal was good and the ride on the route was fantastic. Not so sure about the Ag. Georgious and other big beaches - just not my thing. We like good rocks and snorkelling which we didn't find on this route.

However - next day we took the South west coast route and found some amazing beaches. We loved Mirtiotissas. Great snorkelling and huge rocks to scramble over. Pebble beach also.

Water Park - Aqualand. Took 30 mins to get there on the scooter - easy run. 25 Euros to get in. It was a good day and the rides were in reasonable condition and queues minimal.

Hope this is useful to you!

Room Tip: I don't think you'd get a bad room here. Studios are small but spotless. Room 6 (4 people...

From start to finsh great place, location, excellent Taverna Spiros opposite, handy supermarket across the road. Cannot fault it. Elina very accommodating. Rooms cleaned everyday with fresh towels, don't get that at most s/c accommodation. Pool is a gem with only 12 rooms it means it feels like your own pool. Our 4th time in Paleokastritsa and this is the best accommodation.

Room Tip: We had a lower room level with side path, would opt for 2nd floor but all are good.

We had booked the Marilena on the strength of the very positive feedback from previous guests and we were not disappointed. It is a lovely little place spotlessly kept. Here are two aspects of our holiday which stand out especially. Firstly, the Marilena pool. It is about 12-15m long (estimate) and although it has a large shallow end, it is perfectly suited to swimming a few strokes. On many days (at the end of June) it felt like our own private pool. The best thing about it is the pool's location. Backed by a mature olive grove and a Mediterranean hillside, it could not be more idyllically situated. Secondly, swimming in the sea nearby. There are two swimming spots within an easy 15 mins stroll down the local road, one of them is a small pebble/sand beach set in a gorgeous bay and backed by two tavernas. Both beaches offer perfect swimming in clear blue water. Which of the two is better? We had a male/female split on the question. My son and I adored the exhilarating swimming at La Grotta (the first 'beach' you come to). This included jumping/diving off rocks and exploring around rocky coves. It was best to arrive around 10am before the attractive bar built into the rockface turned up its music. A word of advice: if you are keen to swim for longer than 15 mins at a time, a summer wetsuit would not be out of place as the deep water really is quite refreshing.
