“Greek Fawlty Towers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Had a great time, the local area is lovely with stunning scenery, Olives. Grapes, Figs and Oranges growing everywhere.
There are a selection of beaches at the bottom of the hill along with several restaurants a cash point and some shops but not too many.
The place is run by a pint size Greek Basil Fawlty, Christos and his charming wife it really felt like we were staying with a Greek family, we ate with them and had some lovely meals that were really good value.
The accommodation was basic but clean and comfortable and such a low price.
Will definitely be going back.

I am very used to travelling to Greece and therefore am familiar with how basic facilities are when self-catering. The room we had at these apartments wasn't too good. The bathroom had lots of mould in the grouting; the toilet leaked onto the floor and therefore the bathroom constantly smelled strongly of urine; the drainage in the bathroom was blocked, causing the bathroom to flood when we took a shower (we took the drainage apart and unblocked it, which wasn't pleasant). In a nutshell, it simply wasn't clean and wasn't maintained very well. Many of the sockets didn't work and neither did the TV. There was clearly a 'click' going on with guests that returned on a regular basis and it is very true what other guests have said about Christos clearly not being happy if you eat out at other establishments - he becomes very cool towards you to say the least. Whilst we were there, one couple left and paid to stay at another hotel because they were terrified to come back and face him because he had become aggressive with them after they didn't attend his BBQ. On the other hand, there were other guests who returned over and over again, and couldn't say a wrong word about them - so who knows? The poolside was very clean, quiet and relaxing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view if possible, not overlooking the pool

on arrival we was greeted by christo and katarina the owners of the arriana, they took us to our sc apartment which was very clean and tidy and fresh, before choosing this place i looked at the reviews on trip advisor which were mixed, i cannot understand the reviews that have been written in such bad taste as myself and my 17 year old son had the most amazing time with these people, the food was cooked freshly every day the traditional dishes were absolutely amazing , every dish tried was tasty, we stayed for two weeks and had many fun nights of entertainment supplied by christos and katarina, we enjoyed the greek nights where we was taught the greek dancing by a close friend of christos, the music played and sung by christos actually made our eyes water as he was just beautiful to listen to , we sampled food from other restaurants of which was good also but not as nice as katarinas home cooking she truly is an amazing cook, they really do know how to look after you when you are with them, we met some life long friends along the way , i cannot fault this place at all its well worth the money it was very good value, please do not listen to the bad comments as this is not the case go see for your self like we did you will be amazed xxxxxxx

Room Tip: the room we had was sufficient for our needs cant complain about anything

My partner and I arrived very late in the evening and were received with a lovely warm welcome from both Katarina and Christos. Almost from the very beginning they make you feel as though you are one of the family. The next morning we had a good look around the area to get our bearings. Unfortunately as we had arrived at the start of the rainy season we did have a lot of rain and thunder and lightening. This did not put us off going out. Katarina told us about the old Donkey trail to Lakones, and as the weather was good for walking we headed up and found spectacular views. On days that it was to wet to go out we joined other guests In the bar area, really got to know Katarina and Christos and had a lot of laughs. The Accommodation is suitable for basic needs and you do get what you pay for. What you have to remember is that although it may be a little dated its their culture not ours, they don't have all the mod cons that we take for granted back home. The food was out of this world and I think they could cut back on their servings but everything we ate was bought fresh every day. A couple of the guest did go out for dinner on separate occasions and were really ill through the night and as they were only there for a week it spoilt their holiday so we decided to stay and eat with Christos and Katarina. All in all we spent 2 weeks at the Arianna, had 8 days of rain as I already mentioned 6 days of intense sun and had a total blast. Met some wonderful people and yes I would go back, not year in year out as some people do but probably every second year. It was a holiday that I thought was going to be a disaster but turned out to be one of the best iv ever had

we arrived to find the owners English friends were in our room (overlooking pool, 2 bedroom, apparently one of the better rooms, I would not liked to have stayed in the so called dungeon rooms beneath the bar. we had to wait 2hrs in the bar area until they had moved and the room was cleaned. Rooms had cob webs with resident spiders, we decided to leave them as they were catching the mosquitos. Beds were rock hard, my back and side felt bruised with he springs from the mattress. Had to mop my own floor from shower on two occasions in one week and request room to be cleaned and ask for a change of towels. Mosquito squats not cleaned from the walls in room.

The owner is a character, Cristos is very overwhelming, he likes you to spend in his bar and no where else, says all food in Paleo is frozen and not fresh. If you do get to know him, he will go out of his way to help you. He arranged a scooter for us and also took us to a bakery near Corfu town for us to take Baklava home with us. Cristos wife Katrina is a lovely woman and you will see her dog Mogosh following her everywhere. The resort is quiet apart from Christos bar, he has returning friends who stay up all night, shouting loud whilst the rest of his residents are trying to sleep (3am).
Please keep in mind if you book here Cristos only gets 10 euros per night for a room, so your holiday travel company is making a large profit.

Plus side, drinks in bar are cheep 2.50 euro for a draught beer (fix). Vodka and lemonade 3.50 euro.

TO SUM UP
Paleo is beautiful, but may have had its day in comparison to Parga, Lindos, Skiathos etc. but is not expensive and food is typical greek. They are loads of mosquitos in Paleo, be prepared to be bitten.
Corfu town is best at night, cost 1.80 on bus to get there and 40:00 euro back in taxi.
Apartments would not stay here again and we are used to basic Greek accommodation. Owners would benefit if they spent money doing apartments up and putting there prices up. Sort it out Christos or you will loose business, it could be so much better.

I stayed here with my husband for two weeks mid september. We stayed here the year before and returned again this year. I have to be honest and say I love this place. The apartments are situated a short walk from beautiful beaches .There is a bus stop a short distance where there are daily buses into corfu town. Within the apartment complex there is a lovely clean pool and free sunbeds. The hotel owners christos and katrina are lovely easy people . I would like to point out that this is not 5* accommodation and people should be realistic about there expectations. However I have found it comfortable and relaxing and homely. If you are looking for luxury this is not the place for you. The owners are friendly and offer delicious home cooked food at reasonable prices. I am vegetarian and had variety of lovely cooked meals. There is a bar and greek nights also. If you would like a relaxing holiday this is the place. It is friendly informal and down to earth . Along with the owners there is the lovely Christina who works in the bar. If you do stay here remember this is also the family's home so make effort to have a drink in the bar to get to know them. They are good fun and offer a bit of support to their family business. I will be back here again.

I have just returned to England after spending a week's holiday at the Apartments of this former reknown musician and singer.
After reading all of the reviews beforehand, I was somewhat apprehensive of what I may find but I will state that I was pleasantly surprised. I think regards value for money you get what you pay for, and for the money you pay it's adequate. The rooms should not be classed as self catering - they are apartments/studios with a fridge, kettle and small electric hob. If you are going to 'cook in' a lot rather than eat out then choose somewhere else. The rooms require modernising, there are obvious signs of 'wear and tear' and poor cleanliness/maintenance. You have to put things into perspective, the owner makes nothing out of the hire of his apartments themselves and therefore looks to do business behind the bar and in his restaurant - though this is lacking in atmosphere/could do with some background music etc. On the Wednesday evening the 4 of us joined 10-12 others for a 'special meal' in the restaurant, which was good for the money. Afterwards, we were then treated to some surreal entertainment with Christos' unique keyboard and singing skills - not to be missed if you get the chance!
The owner is not intiminating, more extremely opinionated and not interested in the view of others, he is unprofessional reference his other guests, continuously critisising them behind their backs - with his favourite English word!! During my stay, we met some 'very, very special friends from England and also some [--]!!
