“Fantastic Hotel”
Reviewed July 4, 2012

Just back today from the ABH in Paleokastritsa. This is a truly stunning hotel with some of the best views of any hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff are really friendly and accomodating and the rooms - go Superior - are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is very good though, the evening meals have an old fashioned quality which wouldn't be to everyone's taste.
This is a small quibble though. The views from the bars, the swimming pool, the restaurant and the rooms make this a must for anyone staying in Paleo.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are well-worth the extra money.

don't be put off by the small number of negative reviews about this place- it's a delight!!

we were given a fourth floor room which looks over the entire bay and got the sun all afternoon and evening- hard to imagine what benefits a superior room could offer!!

room, hotel, pool and everything else was very clean and CERTAINLY not dirty like other people have described it. we are british and used to high levels of cleanliness- this did not dissapoint.

the staff are friendly and helpful and always wear a smile. sitting by the pool is a delight, as is the quiet beach which joins the hotel that has just enough on it to make it easy to stay on all day.

to the person who voted this place down on the grounds that the sea water is cold... you're an idiot.

the food at breakfast is a good selection as far as buffet type breakfasts go, and is fresh and tasty. dinner is admittedly average- but then who wants more than b&b when there are nice restaurants nearby to discover?!

overall this place is definitely worthy of its four stars- and at around £120 a night is cheaper than most premier inns in london...!!

as this is a hotel review i won't stray onto the area- but needless to say it is beautiful and very relaxing.

Returned end of June after a lovely quiet and relaxing break. Stunning views and genuinely friendly staff. Here are a few ideas for improving your stay -

Amenity rooms,
There are plenty of them and they are large and spacious giving an open airy feel to the hotel. You. can always find a quiet corner. The seats at the main entrance provide the coolest shady area, picking up the afternoon breeze.

Bedrooms
On the small side but perfectly adequate as is the en suit bathroom.
The beds are very hard, we mentioned this to the rep who arranged for a "topper mattress" and this made a big difference to the comfort. The pillow supplied was also like rock, but we swapped them for the spare ones in the wardrobe which were smaller and therefore not as compressed when put into the pillow case.

Air conditioning
The bedroom unit was very effective with a variety of settings which are worth experimenting with. We gave the room a blast of cold air on retiring for the evening, then left it on "fan" through the night.

Dining
The dining room was air conditioned, and very elegant with excellent service however I would not return to this hotel again on half board terms. If you like a very high carbohydrate diet, you may be happy with the menus. There were alternatives for some courses, but a typical menus would be -
Starter - pasta
Course 2 - a salad
Main - meat stew with canned vegetables
Desert - ice cream

How I made the most of it -
Starter - there was usually melon on the desert list, swap it for your starter.
Main - forget the canned vegetables and take your salad with the main meat or ask for fish alternative,
Desert - Forget the strawberry iced cream, but have vanilla with fresh strawberries which are a remarkably good second runner to English ones.

Having visited Greece many times, I would hate to have been left with the lasting impression that this was typical Greek food with two exceptions, the yogurt and honey at breakfast - superb! The aubergine starter. In fairness, it is difficult to cater for average taste, personally I would prefer to go for quality and not quantity especial considering the heat.

Pool
Stunning! The affinity pool leads the view across the beautiful bay and coastline. There is a lovely separate children's pool and even some water toys. The bar is excellent and you can get a light lunch here. There was always plenty of spaces round the pool (June) generally frowned on to reserve beds.

Sea swimming
If you are reasonably fit and a good swimmer, this is a "must try" but be aware it is done at your own risk and there are some risks involved, most of with can be mitigated with good management. There are steps (first risk as they are not for the faint hearted) which lead from the outside Dining room down to terraced areas within the cliff. Sun loungers are provided (second risk, you would fry if you stayed there for too long) and a ladder (about 3 - 4 runs) into deep sea water. If you brave all this, make sure you are wearing rubber shoes as the rocks are sharp and have sea anemones and other prickly things stuck on them and you will need to heave yourself back up from the rocks on to the the ladder. Hope I have not put you off, it's well worth the effort!

Beach
Before you even think about this, invest in a pair of 7 euro plastic shoes which will let you walk on the pebbled beach without getting the crippling pebbles under your flip flops! This is a public beach, served by a couple of tavernas, changing cubicle, shower, swimming pool, brollies and sun chairs.

I would definitely return on B&B basis - probably not ideal for the disabled due to the many changes in level.

This was our first time staying at the Akrotiri beach Hotel in Corfu and it was absolutely FANTASTIC!! from the moment we arrived the staff and managers were so friendly and helpful. The hotel was super clean and in an ideal location with views of the bay and the sea on either side, we had a room on the 5th floor which was the top floor and well worth asking for as the view over the bay was just beautiful, we certainly didnt want to leave. The only thing that let the hotel down slightly was the evening meals, the same menus each week and very strange combinations of food, although very tasty it did date the hotel back to the 80's which was a real shame as everything else was so lovely. We loved the pool area which has been recently refurbished, it has a stunning infinity pool, a large jacuzzi, and a small splash pool for children, great sun decks and really big umbrellas for shade. A great hotel for a quiet peaceful holiday, we certainly look forward to returning again, possibly next year.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 4th or 5th floor as these have the best views and have all been refubished.

What a wonderful hotel! Beautifully designed to maximise the stunning vistas from this promontory location – shades of sea and sky blues complementing the olive & cypress greens of the hills, the hilltop villages and the pretty coves & local harbour.
Bedrooms and public areas are very bright, spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The infinity pool, poolside areas and gardens are beautiful & relaxing.
What fabulous staff – all so friendly, enthusiastic and efficient!

The guests are a truly international mix, and all welcomed with the true spirit of traditional Greek hospitality (contrary to one mean reviewer’s opinion)! Several guests come for the hiking, scuba diving or fishing and many return time and time again just to relax.

The 4 course meals are copious with often an interesting Greek main course (like venison) & different European options. Tastes differ, so some dishes are better than others – but not so good for vegetarians and exotic dessert connoisseurs!

We definitely recommend the Akrotiri Hotel. We had a brilliant holiday and will go there again!

It was very difficult to chose a hotel not knowing the area! I went with my boyfriend for 5 days.
This is without a doubt the best hotel in Paleo. The location is just with view on the beach. We had the superior room with a baclony that had an amazing view on the sea, but quiet in same time. In evening could just listen to the waves.
The hotel service is very good and it is clean. The food is average. I would advise to try the restaurants outside the hotel that are much better but it is not as bad as certain review say.
I loved the swimming pool area and the many areas in hotel where you can just sit and have a drink.
We went to Corfu Town for the day (around 30 min away). Beware that from Corfu Town the last bus is at 4pm, after that you will pay between 30 and 40 euros by taxi.
The Paleo area is very quiet, not much at all to do in the evening but we went just to have a romantic break. We rented a boat, explored the area, played tennis, relaxed by beach, pool.
Shopping would def be at Corfu Town.

Also beware there is only 1 cash point as far as i could see in the area so try to have euros with you as most restaurants only take cash.
I recommend the Grotta Bar, few minutes walk, on the right when you come out of the hotel. Its a hidden bar situated down the stairs, on the cliff with chilled out music and amazing view again.

You can also book trips, horse riding, diving, boat trip etc, rent quads ...

It depends what you are looking for, you can also rent a car and explore the islands but overall this hotel is the best in the area from what I could see, and Paleo has the best views in Corfu from what I was told.

I hope that helps!

This hotel has a great location, but some tourists get bad rooms and others awesome rooms. If you're not British or German don't go there because they will treat you like garbage. We came here with a large group (30-40 people) through an agency. When we got there the rooms were already assigned to us so although we didn't like the room we were assigned we could not change it. We got a room on the first floor with a view of the trees surrounding the hotel and a slight peak of the sea. The good part was that we could hear the waves and that made our nights (and sleep) more pleasant. Honestly, this hotel is not a 4 star hotel judging by it's rooms and services. Indeed it has a great location with a wonderful view for some rooms, but that doesn't make it a 4 star hotel. Also, we had in our room a myriapod crawling around which was disgusting and totally inappropriate for a 4 star hotel.
Also, although our breakfast was decent, dinner was truly horrid. Every night cold food, cheap food, insipid, tasteless, odourless etc.

For the money spent on this hotel we could have done better.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the left side of the hotel.
