“Wonderful views, lovely people, evening-meal chaos”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

We have been to Corfu eleven times, however, this was the first time to Paleokastritsa. This will not be the last time. The place is just beautiful, and all the people we meet were lovely.
All staff at the hotel work very hard from morning to night and all try to please. We had room 305 for three people, we booked this for extra space. The views were spectacular, however, you really need to be fit as there are three lots of steps to get to the room, there is another way to the room but it is long winded and the lift only goes up to the second floor on this part of the building so you still have to walk up one lot of steps. This was ok with us as we found that by the end of the first week we were much fitter, not good for people with walking difficulties. There are amazing walks and we enjoyed these every day. The 300 year old donkey path up to Lakones was a real achievement, in fact, we done it twice, however, you do need good shoes.
The hotel was spotless, our room was cleaned every day and towels and sheets changed regular.

My ONLY MOAN was meal times, the breakfasts were ok, however, the evening meal was something else. They start at 8pm - 9.30pm, which is far too late for most people and found the dining room so small, it was difficult to pass to get your next course. Everyone had to share a very small table with another couple, we were lucky we shared with a delightful couple, however, there was no room on the table for our dishes as it was a tight squeeze. This was not a good experience as the noise was unbearable with waitresses running with trays in their hands, an accident waiting to happen. Sometimes the queues were so long we could not be bothered to wait. I know quite of a lot of people gave up and went to restaurants in the area.
The self serve salads were good, however, there was not much selection for the main meal,(the quality was good). Everyone had to queue for the main meal where a waitress asked us what we wanted and dished the food out for us.
I would love to rebook, but unfortunately, this has put us both off, such a shame. Perhaps they can try and resolve this issue.
1. Start the evening meal earlier, 6pm - 8.30
2. Maybe book in the morning for allotted times so that people do not have to rush and queue. 1st and second sittings.
3. No table sharing with another couple

If this is resolved we would have no hesitation to book again.

Hotel was clean, lovely grounds, staff very friendly, views from rooms were nice (inland and sea view), as was the view from the pool. Rooms were quite basic, but cool, clean, comfortable and a decent size.
Food was quite nice, not a massive selection, but nice nonetheless. Although I must say, I wasn't that keen on the hotels policy of making you share your table with other guests for evening meals - they should at least give you a choice.

Paleokastritsa itself was very quiet, Ideal for couples (especially middle aged/older), but not really a place for young groups/friends.

Didn't make much of the local 'beaches', when searching on the Internet, the photos look wonderful - however in reality i found that not the case. Paleokastritsa 'beach' has a main road running past on one side and a busy car park on the other, the smaller beach was quite dirty (smashed glass, plastic cups, litter) strewn across it and was very overcrowded. I think you need to hire a car/catch a boat taxi if you want to see proper beaches, of which there are plenty of in the area.

Some nice bars/restaurants nearby, most with beautiful views, good food and friendly staff.

We visited in September, the hotel was brilliant, splendid views from our balcony of the sea and surrounding area.
The bedroom was small but very clean and comfortable
We stayed half board, the food was a little repetative, however, there was always a good selection .
The bar and lounge area was very comfortable and prices were very reasonable.
The members of staff were brilliant, it is family run and the amount of effort put into every job they do , is to be commended.
There are quite a lot of steps, there is a lift to the second floor, but we were on the 3rd floor and had steps to climb.
Would we go again..... We sure will.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms face the sea , there a some facing onto the garden and there are a few suites that...

We stayed at the Odysseus in June 2012 and had a fantastic week there. The hotel is in an absolutely stunning location overlooking the bay. You can enjoy breakfast every morning on the terrace and admire the spectacular views.

Our room looked out onto the garden and had a balcony. It was clean and contained everything you would expect. We were not charged extra for the safe or aircon. Some people have written that there were a lot of stairs but this didn't bother us.

The food was fine. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner and it was all good quality.

We were charged around £450 for the week which we thought was very reasonable for the two of us. It was a small price to pay to escape the British weather!

Ignore the bad reviews from people who are obviously too fussy. Stay here and you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here for two weeks in September. Paid a bit extra for a seaview room with balcony. Nice room and had a decent sized bathroom with shower over bath. Breakfast was nice, and we found the evening meals to be tasty. Friendly & helpful staff and hotel well situated. Would definitely recommend. We thought we got a good deal for our two weeks.

This is a good hotel in a lovely position overlooking the sea. We had a family room without a sea view but I think probably a quieter position and we liked the space. Rather a lot of steps to climb to this part of the hotel. There is a lift but only within the main body of the hotel. Think they must have added buildings over the years. Beds were too hard for us and we had to pay for air con as it became too humid. We went late Sept / early Oct expecting the temps to drop but in fact they went up to 33 which was rather unusual.
Lots of wasps and mosquitoes to fend off but again probably time of year.
Food was ok. Breakfast continental style but we went half board so had an evening meal and that got a little boring so we ate out a few times. They always serve soup, a selection of salads (which are good) and then a choice of mains but they weren't very interesting. They repeated things after one week. Puddings awful. Fresh fruit would have been a better alternative. Hated the table sharing although they did move us to one of our own when they were less busy. It is not a very big restaurant so they have no choice as the main meal is taken at 8.00 p.m. until 9.30 and most people arrive at 8 so there is a bit of a rush. It was not a dining experience but more of a food hall.
Swimming pool area is lovely although surprisingly the water is really cold. They serve snacks and drinks over the lunch period at tables under a canopy beside the pool.
It takes about 15 mins to walk down to the main beach although there are small coves opposite and along the road.
Bus to Corfu town stops right outside and was an easy excursion to take.
On the whole we would recommend staying at this hotel but if staying for more than one week hire a car to get around the island. They were able to arrange the hire for us at reasonable cost and the car was delivered and collected from the hotel.
Hotel staff are all really friendly and helpful and although we were there at the end of their season they did not act in the least bit jaded. This is a hotel run by an extended family and it is in their interest to make it work which they do very well.

Room Tip: Family room in the back part of the hotel with 74 steps to climb but lots of space and very clean

We had an 11 night stay, booked through Manos, the Airport transfer took 1 hour 30 minutes, when the book said 40 minutes. The hotel has been built up I would say over many years. At the time of our stay, we had free wifi in the reception. The pool has 30 sunbeds for 64 rooms, luckily during our stay (off peak) this was not a problem. The pool is okay, no diving, not too deep a cool off pool really, its in the Sun for most of the day till late afternoon. The pool bar is good, starting at 12:00 till 16:00 selling cans and hot food. There is a small area with about 8 tables to eat on. We done this only once, as there were just too many wasps about. The woman who runs this bar, is a gem to the family, she is there at Breakfast, runs this bar, then serves and clears at Dinner and then does bar waiting till close. She does it with a smile as well. The Room is clean and has a fridge, you get one key and this controls the Electricity, so your fridge is only on when you are in the room, but it was good enough for us, keeping wine and beer cold. TV is BBC2, ITV4+1 and CH4 and 5, Sky News and BBC News. The beds are very hard and my wife found them uncomfortable. We had a balcony with 2 chairs and a table, average stuff. The bathroom was the killer, it was a broom cupboard with a shower cubicle, toilet and sink. The old toilet paper in the bin job as well. You couldn't stand in front of the toilet or sit properly, as the sink was less than 2 inches away, looking down.
The shower was 2 foot square, too small for me at 13 stone, a big man or woman would have a problem. That said, other couples had a bath and more space, so luck of the draw. You do get soap, and shower gell every day.The restaurant was okay, but you do sit with someone else, this is okay, but leaves you a lack of space, as the table is only 2 foot square. Breakfast is especially difficult. The food is the same every day, At breakfast you have 2 cereals cornflakes (greek) and a bran mix, filter coffee, tea bags (Greek)(weak) and hot and cold milk. There are 2 jams, chocolate spread and Honey. In trays there is plain yogurt, melon mix (never changes). Ham, Cheese and Salami.Hot wise, you had Fried Eggs, 2 min and 5 min bolied eggs, beans (Greek) and a form of omelete. Also mini franks or reformed ham. Rolls, sliced White bread, dry sponge cake and mini croissants. It was okay but boring after a week, and most of it was poor quality wise. Dinner was soup (daily change), bread, pulses, beans, 3 dips, 2 dressings, 2 salad bowls, but not always lettuce, which is strange, hot wise you get a vegetable dish, pasta or rice, 2 meat dishes and 1 potato dish for a total of 5. Again after a week this gets very boring. The quality is 3 star. The evenings entertainment is on about 3 times, a music man singing and playing all sorts, 2 greek guys playing various stuff, but the best is the Sunday night Greek night with dancing, loads of locals turn up and its a good night. The resort is good, you can walk as far as like of a night and always find a hotel for a restroom, there are about 4 bays, and the swimming is good. The marina does the usual hire a boat or a glass bottom boat. Walking wise, there is a lovely walk about 6 miles up through olive groves, to the Lakones, then back down to the far side of the resort to your hotel, about 2-3 hours with superb views. We ate at the Dolphin near to the hotel, cheap and nice. We also ate at the Limali down the stairs to the Marina, first one, does a good pizza. Overall the Hotel is average and 3 stars is about right, could be a 2.5 star in Spain.
The airport run back was terrible, picked up at 08:20 for a 11:45 flight and sat at a junction waiting for other vans to drop people off for 40 minutes. We arrived at the airport at 10:15.
