Oh my, where I start! From the minute we arrived we knew we'd made a mistake only booking for 1 week! This is a family run accommodation/pool bar and they have it down to a fine art. Katarina is one of the nicest people we've ever met and Yiannis is just so funny, I don't think we have ever had such a laugh on holiday. Guests who had been going for years were so welcoming and helpful with tips for where to go and what to see. You could ask Katarina or Yiannis anything and they would help you out. I don't honestly think we have ever experienced such genuine friendliness. The rooms are what you would expect from Greek accomodation, they were clean, a nice size and all you would need for a holiday. The pool was a lovely size, loads of beds, very clean and tidy. The bar is the life and soul, food is first rate and we had english breakfast everyday, very nice! BBQ night on a Saturday night is an absolute must, delicious food, wine, Greek dancing from Yiannis and one of his sisters and then the fun bit where everyone gets up and has a go! You have to give it a try, such fun. My hubby and I both had aching jaws the next day from laughing so much! There's plenty to do in Paleo', loads of walks, loads of lovely tavernas where you can sit back and take in the amazing views and so many beaches to enjoy. There's the Monastry to visit, a castle, an aquarium, boat trips galore, what more could you ask for? There's even a bus stop right outside Maria Studios if you fancy a trip to Corfu town which only takes about 45minutes. If you're reading this Katarina and Yiannis, expect to see us next year, we're going to be booking up as soon as we can and thank you very much for an outstanding week!! My family just arrived home from a week at the Maria Studios. There are many comments from previous trip advisor updates that I would mirror completely such as - Katerina is a lovely lady and works very hard, always pleasant to the customers and gave a warm welcome on our arrival. Yiannis however is egotistical and likes to provide the Yiannis show every evening. As per previous comments if you are not one of the bar 'flies' then he's not really interested. I personally found him very rude and he made personal comments!! The noise at night is pretty awful as music is played very loudly until very late. We don't ask for the moon on a stick - just a quiet nights sleep when on holiday!!! I asked to move rooms which Katerina organised for us - although the new room was very dark with no view it was at the back so limited noise which was preferable to having a view !!!!
Our room was only cleaned twice during the whole week! The bathroom floor gets very wet and slippy so you need to put towels down! As our room was not cleaned regularly I went in search of clean towels and found where they were stored in an open cupboard. Yiannis 'caught' me getting new towels and was very angry toward me !!! He didn't offer to help and told me to look after the ones we had!!!!!
The local children do play outside or in the corridors until very late so another point to consider.
On the plus side the food was good and the pool area is nice and in terms of location we were convenient to the shops and restaurants (do not eat in the restaurant next door - that's another story!!)

Room Tip: The rooms with a pool view are brighter and nicer but ask for a room at the back if you want to avoi...

We have just come back from a fantastic week at the Maria Studios, our stay was from 14th - 21st May. We arrived early afternoon and were greeted by Yianni, his opening statement was something along the lines of 'Welcome, we are family, we are cooking bacon and eggs at the bar, anything you need you just let me know and I will arrange it for you, taxis, car, shops etc'. That introduction was just as I'd hoped after reading all the previous reviews, and set the scene for the week, and so it began......
Our room overlooked the beautiful pool and also the bays further along. The room was large, had everything we needed and spotlessly clean, with a balcony. We spent a few minutes unpacking then went down to the bar and pool area and were immediately made to feel very welcome by the other guests, some of which were engaged in hilarious banter with Yianni, and had been holidaying at the Maria Studios for many years.
We then met the lovely Katerina, who would cook for us the most beautiful meals for the next week, mostly we picked from the specials board and our favourite was the Stifado.
Paleokastritsa is a lovely place to visit and the walk down to the harbour and beaches gives the most amazing views, just breath-taking. There are supermarkets very close to the studios and lots of lovely bars to choose from which ever direction you take. We would recommend La Grotta , turn left out of Maria's then follow the road round past the the big hotel on the bend then further along on the righthand side it is signed at the road. You will need to walk down lots of steps to the bar which is set in the rocks on the sea, wonderful chilled music and I would imagine later in the season an eclectic chilled atmosphere, in a setting that is stunning. You will have to walk back up the steps mind !
There is a bus stop directly outside the studios and for 2.30 euros you can get to Corfu town, which was a lovely old town with some lovely shops and restaurants, do check the timetable though as it did change during our week, but its so convenient and cheap and takes about half an hour.
We had never been to Corfu before and we aren't for going back to the same place twice, (the world is so big ) I would love to go back there though, the locals were all lovely and friendly, and happy to have a chat, it felt very safe and relaxed environment.
Our evenings were spent back at the studios where we would eat a meal, then mingle at the bar with the other guests, where the drinks would flow, the music played on and Yianni would entertain everyone with his humour. Katerina and Maria will cook for you from morning till night and always with a smile. Greek night on Saturday was wonderful the food again amazing, the entertainment also and just so much fun into the late hours.
There is a reason that people keep going back here, its a very intimate place, I've never been anywhere where you are looked after by the owners and looked after so well, where new people turn up and the existing guests know them !! its like your local has been picked up and put in the most beautiful sunny setting for you for a while. I will say I think you get the best out of a holiday at Maria studios if you go down and meet everyone and enjoy socialising.
Thank you to Yianni, Katerina,Maria and Leanna for your wonderful hospitality, and to all the guests who were newbies like us or regulars who'd been going for years, we had a wonderful week and wouldn't hesitate to go back ... Yvonne and James

My husband and I had a fantastic 15 days relaxing and being looked after by everyone at Maria Studio's.

Katarina greeted us at 1.00 am on our arrival making us feel welcome. After a good nights sleep we went down for breakfast to be greeted with a warm smile from Katrina and a fantastic breakfast this then set the tone for the rest of our holiday. Nothing was too much trouble always happy to accommodate and ensure we had everything we needed.

My husband is disabled and cannot walk far and everyone ensured he did not miss out on anything during our stay. This included other guests making us feel welcome, we felt like we knew everyone (home from home). xxx

Excellent service, clean apartment Thanks to Leanna, food to die for Thanks to Katrina and Maria, atmosphere From Yanni, Katarina, Maria and guests etc in such beautiful surroundings, who could ask for anything more.

This was our second visit to Corfu but first to Paleokastritsa but it will not be our last.

Look out everyone hopefully we will be back next year and for several more years to come.

Room Tip: Excellent views from rooms on second floor and at the front. Quieter rooms at the rear.

hello myself and my girlfriend have just had a week holiday at the maria studios aka faros pool bar and we had an amazing holiday....arrived on sat evening 11/05 about 1am and we were met by Katrina who showed us to are room and from that point on was an amazing host, Katrina can not do enough for you I could go on and on from her wonderful cooking where she will make you what ever you want.... on the menu or not day or night. the studios is also run by her husband Yiannis who also works very hard, Yiannis sister and mother also works there cooking and cleaning and do a fantastic job as the studios are very clean and the food prob the best on the Island. I can not understand any bad reviews as if you take the time to get to know these people you will have a great holiday and enjoy Yiannis and Katrina company and Yiannis very funny stories...I hope he has not set the hunting dogs after Walter yet....just ask....thank you all at Maria studios also the other guessed for a great holiday....David & Ayesha....hope see you all in October.

Room Tip: room high floor for great views

My friend and I stayed here from the 7th to the 14th of May and it was just as how I imagined the place would be as I had checked out the reviews on Trip Adviser before booking.

The location was stunning, I have been to Corfu several times and love the island anyway but you can not beat the stunning views that Paleokastritsa has to offer and as the studios are central a walk in either direction will lead you to beaches, tavernas and shops, and most of the people you meet in the shops or restaurants are happy to chat to you and give you more tips to explore and get the best out of your holiday.

Katerina met us as we arrived and Yannis took details from our passports. I dont know
if he made any unpleasant comments about us to the regulars at the bar as we got off the minibus as a previous reviewer stated but he was polite and respectful and friendly to our faces and as far as I could tell when he chatted to all his regulars it was harmless fun and just a bit of banter. Also the regular guests chatted to us every day and we as newbies were made to feel very welcome.

We ate a couple of evening meals at the studios including the best tasting lamb of the century at the b b q night on saturday, the first one of the season, and Yannis entertained us all with his dancing and we attempted it also. For 16 euros it was a good value brilliant entertaining night. The breakfasts were equally good value too.

We walked down the hill and ate at restaurants there but if you turn left and walk up the road I can highly recommend Spiros family taverna , the food was excellent especially the prawn saganaki and calamari stuffed with seafood. That was 16 euros but we received a complimentary starter and sweet plus a lift back down the hill from one of the sons . The whole family were attentive, friendly and offered the best of Greek hospitality.

A little way up after the left turn is Nausilas taverna and they do a greek night on Tuesdays and Saturdays and the most amazing chicken souvlaki I have ever tasted, and a sweet on the house was presented with a smile.

Anyway the room at the studios was perfect for us, pool view overlooking the bar and seaview . Personally I did not find the noise from the bar disturbing when going to bed even sat outside on the balcony and when the doors were shut nothing at all and I have a low tolerance of noise. I however did feel sorry for the people next door as my friend did snore very loudly, even with earplugs in I still heard her, and she said when she was awake I was snoring too.

The most relaxing thing about the holiday was being able to swim in the gorgeous pool, just gazing up at the mountains, lost in the tranquility of it all, and the little birds used to dive down skim the water when everyone was out just to cool themselves off,
I found it fascinating to watch and felt so at peace with the world.

I would definitely come here again, dont be put off by all the regular returning guests,
They were newbies once and we also met lovely people who were first time guests at these studios.

I am returning to Corfu in September to another part of the island but am planning a boat trip for the day to visit Paleokastritsa once again and will definitely pop in to the bar for a drink and remember happy times.
