We chose Theodora because we wanted clean, simple self-catering accommodation with a pool which was close to a nice beach; Theodora ticked all the boxes for us. We travelled with Cosmos and were dropped off at the bottom of the hill on the main road so it's a 5 minute walk (mostly uphill) to Theodora. We had already read reviews so we were prepared for the walk, not a problem. On arrival, the Cosmos travellers were welcomed by Maria, her family and Maggie, the English lady who works there. We collected our cases (which had been delivered separately so no need for us to drag them up the hill with us, thankfully) and Maggie gave us our room numbers.
The apartments are simple but spotlessly clean. We did not intend to do any cooking, although you are provided with two electric rings, our main priority was to have a full-size fridge with freezer compartment for our drinks! We stocked up on alcohol (beer is cheap but spirits are not) from the nearby supermarket!
The beds are very firm and take a bit of getting used to, but we often find this to be the case in Greece. The beds have blankets on them, which we immediately removed as it was so hot that the lovely clean sheets were more than sufficient. There is air conditioning at a cost of 5 euros per day, plus a safety deposit box in the wardrobe at an additional cost of 10 euros for a week. The air con is well worth it!
Patio doors open onto a small balcony (we were on the middle floor of 3) and ours had a pleasant view of the lovely, well maintained gardens, although I believe the top floors have a sea view. There was a hair dryer in our room, which is unusual for self-catering, but I had already brought my own. Yes, as others have said, the bathroom is small and the shower is a bit of a nuisance because it is mounted on the wall at a very low height so if you're over 2 foot tall, you'll need to hold it! This was hard work whilst washing my hair, but not a huge problem so I wouldn't whinge about it. The water does overflow in the absence of a shower curtain, but again not a major issue for me. Unfortunately, I did have 3 or 4 cold showers during the course of the week as the hot water seems to run out when guests return during late afternoon/evening.
The cleaning staff do a wonderful job and everything is well taken care of, they even dried our dishes from the draining board which we didn't expect at all. You have to supply your own washing up liquid and are only supplied with a couple of toilet rolls, but this is often the case with self catering. There is a full size kettle, and it would have been good to have also had a toaster but this is just our personal preference. There is a wall-mounted TV which we never used because we can watch TV at home when it's raining!
The pool area is very pleasant and we were always able to get sun loungers even in July. There is a nice atmosphere and it's lovely to sip cocktails in the nice little bar area on the comfy seating and chat to visitors and staff alike. Kolios Beach, in our opinion, is nicer than Aghia Paraskevi. It is quieter, with only one row of sun beds, and has good facilities. We ate twice at Infinity Blue which is at the end of the road Theodora is on, so is very handy and one of the nicest places we visited. The view is fantastic (see separate review). We had our best meal at The Final Step in Skiathos Town - just amazing! (see separate review).
We would recommend the Island Hopping Trip to Skopelos and Alonissos, both of which are beautiful places with lots of photo opportunities.
One word of warning about the local buses on Skiathos - if you go in high season many of the peak time buses are packed full and you end up having to get taxis so the transport system isn't quite as good as it could be. The buses are old and many are not air conditioned so it gets unpleasantly hot and crowded on there, with no regard for health and safety with doors left open and people's faces pressed against the windscreen!
Skiathos itself is a gorgeous island and although we make it our policy never to visit the same destination twice (as there is so much of the world waiting our there) Skiathos does tempt us for a return visit. The scenery is stunning, the standard of restaurants is extremely high and there is so much beauty around you with fantastic blue sky...... what more could you want? Theodora is the ideal base from which to explore and, for us, was perfect for our needs.

Room Tip: High floor rooms will have the best views

This was our 10th year at the theodora studios i have never written a review before but felt i had to this year.if you have never visited skiathos before then the theodora is for you it is situated roughly in th centre of the island at bus stop 15 .The theodora is a family run studios with Maria Theodora Sofia and of course Maggie they are all stars in my eyes as nothing and i mean nothing is too much bother .The rooms are always clean and tidy the gardens are kept loveley and the bar area wear Maggie works is great she makes everyone welcome and it has friendly atmosphere. The bar snacks are made by Sofia she is fantastic and may i say the best cook on the island .The bbq night is great fun with a quiz and the chance to make life long friendships .so if you are thinking of holdaying on skiathos give Maria Maggie Sofia and family a try and you wont regret it it is beautiful.

As the other reviews have said, this accommodation is standard for what you expect in Greece. Pool was quite small but looked nice, pretty gardens and the pool bar was spacious. Bit of a problem when we arrived as room wasn't ready yet- not really forgivable since we didn't arrive until gone four o'clock.. Maggie was rather brusque about the situation, shrugging and saying "well the cleaners had a lot of rooms to do today"... if we had been offered somewhere to use the loo or have a wash we would have felt better but were just told to wait by the bar. A free drink might have softened the blow too as we waited forty five minutes. We did notice about six or seven other parties arrive shortly after and their rooms weren't ready either- not good enough, especially as one lady was quite heavily pregnant and I'm sure could have used a lie down! We are a young couple and when we go on holiday we like to see a bit of the place we're visiting so couldn't quite get our head round the many guests who seemed to pretty much sit round the pool the whole time, but each to their own! The atmosphere was quite cliquey and we didn't feel very welcome really but like I say we mostly went round the different beaches so weren't there much. There's a bit of a walk up a hill to it but we quite liked that to walk off all the food! Not an issue if you're of basic fitness. Food was nice at the pool bar but lots of fantastic restaurants and many very close by. If you've already booked Theodora don't be put off, it looks nice, the rooms are nice, and the staff are nice too- Maggie is a bit no nonsense but you get used to her and she will help out if you need anything. But Skiathos is so beautiful and there is so much to see other than the accommodation! Infinity Blue and Kochyli restaurants are lovely and our favourite beach was Eleni though the little bay at Kolios is very nice too.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor and found we didn't need the air con as it stayed cooler down there...

This was our first visit to Skiathos and it really is a lovely island with fabulous beaches and fabulous people keen on making your holiday special.

The Theadora. Basic greek hotel room. Bathroom a little small (OK, very small) and I would have liked a holder for the shower head. However, they're kept very clean and the sheets and towels are changed regulary. I would have liked a bin in the kitchen area. We had a ground floor room with a small patio which opened out onto the lovely gardens.

The pool is very pleasant. There are the regulars at the bar but we found everyone friendly and we did join in for the quiz night - the hotel put on a great spread.

The hotel is situated up a little road, with a supermarket and it's location is ideal for the bus to take to you to either the old town of Skiathos or the cool beaches at the other end of the Island. We're beach people and a short walk to bus stop 16 took us to a great beach too. There are a number of places to eat within a short walk - I recommend Avli's up the little track by bus stop 16.
First thing in the morning we could be eating our breakfast by Skiathos Harbour 20 minutes after leaving the hotel - so it's location is ideal but it's nice and quiet and you really do feel relaxed when you are there.

They do food which is tasty and keep the Mythos cold. We liked it a lot and even though we have always said there is so much of the world to see, we wouldn't go anywhere twice, we'll go back to Skiathos and probably back to the Theadora too.

Room Tip: Top Rooms have a sea view. In our ground floor room, we didn't need the a/c.

Back for our second visit and not disappointed.
These are family friendly, well run studios where nothing is too much trouble.
Don't expect 5 star- these are typical, basic studios. However, in our opinion, the location, cleanliness, service & friendliness counts for so much more.
Maggie works so hard to please all - thanks for the loan of the beach towel!
Weekly BBQ if numbers permit- home cooked food is plentiful & delicious (and we won the quiz!)
Most guests seem to be return visitors- just ask yourself why?
Theodora represents value for money but more than that you are welcomed by the family and made to feel that whilst you're there it is "your home".
The pool area is so relaxing for a day & also so needed after a hot car journey from the beach!
Kolios beach - Sadly the Taverna is not operational. Take a cool bag, pop a bottle of water in the freezer compartment of the fridge overnight to use as ice pack, call at the local shop for beers, soft drinks, ready made baguettes, fruit etc and you'll be sorted for a day at Kolios beach.
We hired a car which made most of the beaches accessible. Mandraki and Elias being our favourites this year.
Wonderful Tavernas on both beaches. You just have to try Mandraki chips "Patatoes"!
Returned to Ampelikia (Posh Beach) still divine, still 140 steps to get down there, but the bar prices put us off a further visit - 5 Euros for a small bottle of Mythos, 3.50 Euros for canned soft drinks. Notices on sunbeds prohibits you from consuming food & drinks from your home prepared coolbag on this beach.
Places to eat: See my current reviews, Anatoli has to be our absolute favourite, but would also recommend Jimmys in Agia Pareskevi, Kanapitsa Taverna & the newish one in Skiathos town, Politzer North.
Thank you to Lucy, our rep from Monarch, who was as professional, helpful & informative as ever.
Thank you to Maria & family, and of course Maggie.
We'll be back again soon.

We returned to Theodora for the sixth time. We fell in love with the island of Skiathos on our first visit in 2003 and have returned each time to these beautiful studios which are looked after by Maria and her family and Maggie who is surrogate family! The studios are basic Greek style, comfortable, up on the hillside in the Kolios area of Skiathos (about 15 minutes fro the town). They have air conditioning and a safe and basic cooking facilities. We always ask for a high room as this gives us lovely views over the valley and Olive Groves. There is a swimming pool and bar and between them Sofia, Maria's mum and Theodora, her sister-in-law make delicious snacks and breakfasts if you require them. Also, in previous years we have attended the BBQ the food has been outstanding, with the biggest pork chops I have ever seen! We were a little early for the BBQ season this time but would highly recommend it. There is a supermarket a few minutes away (Manos) which caters for all the basics, with fresh bread daily. A ten minute walk downhill takes you to numerous restaurants (some even closer) and to bus stop 15 which takes you into town one way, passing numerous beautiful beaches, and to Troulos and Koukanaries the other way.

As you can guess by our number of return visits, the friendliness of all at Theodora and the lovely days spent by the pool mean that we will have no hesitation in making a further visit. Skiathos is such a chilled out island and the people there are the friendliest in Greece. (A note to anyone with
mobility/breathing problems - the fairly steep walk to the studios could possibly be a problem)

Room Tip: Ask for a high room (there are three floors) as this will give you the best view

Truly a relaxing stay at Theodora - pool area is lovely and pool bar is well stocked and well run. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is done to make your stay as relaxing as possible. Rooms are clean with towels and sheets change a couple of times per week. Lots of nice restaurants within walking distance. it was our 2nd visit to these apartments and we would not hesitate to stay again but maybe for 2 weeks next time - Many thanks to all at the Theodora
