“A peaceful haven”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

We've visited Luz every year since 2007 - it's absolutely perfect for us. The beach is delightful, clean and, since the bay is well sheltered, bathing is quite safe, making it ideal for even the smallest child. The town is small, but caters well for holidaymakers and residents alike with supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, takeaways, and the inexpensive local transport allows you to visit the nearby town (Lagos) or other seaside resorts.
There are many ex-pats resident in Luz, and the supermarkets reflect this in the assortment of typical British groceries - and this means that practically everyone speaks perfect English.
Nightlife is limited to dining and a few quiet bars - there are no noisy discos (giving my age away here!), so, probably not entertaining enough for the 18 to 30's - but, as I have said, that makes it perfect for us.
There are also several gift and souvenir shops - well, wouldn't you expect such in a seaside resort?! but, we recommend that if you want to buy anything other than a few mementos, visit Lagos where the prices are much cheaper.
All in all, a peaceful haven where there's enough going on to spark interest, but generally, a very relaxing resort.

“Relaxing holiday”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

Have been to Luz on 4 occasions now. It gets better ever time I go back. Lovely little town which has not lost its charm. Plenty of excellent restaurants to eat in. Very relaxing place to go on holiday, with a lovely little beach to sunbathe on.

“Lovely little resort”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

Placed around a lovely picturesque beach this resort is a quiet but has many caves and restaurants providing a wide variety of different experiences. The scenery is beautiful and in late October the weather was kind and everywhere fairly quiet yet still with enough people around to avoid it feeling dead. The area around it has many places to visit and there are walks both within the village and along the cliffs. It is very English in terms of its clientele but the locals are very friendly and helpful. Prices are higher than in Lagos but quality of food was very good. Great place to stay.

“Can't wait to go back”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Perfect for families. We loved the beach, cafés and restaurants. Small enough to walk around but a car is handy to visit nearby villages and towns e.g. Lagos is much bigger and busier, Burgau is smaller, quieter with the most fabulous beach. Baptista supermarket for all your self catering provisions also has a lovely take away patisserie.
No nightlife so to speak, but there are a few friendly bars that open late, in particular Rio's bar and the local treasure Jasmim are great for a nightcap.
