We've visited Luz every year since 2007 - it's absolutely perfect for us. The beach is delightful, clean and, since the bay is well sheltered, bathing is quite safe, making it ideal for even the smallest child. The town is small, but caters well for holidaymakers and residents alike with supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, takeaways, and the inexpensive local transport allows you to visit the nearby town (Lagos) or other seaside resorts.
There are many ex-pats resident in Luz, and the supermarkets reflect this in the assortment of typical British groceries - and this means that practically everyone speaks perfect English.
Nightlife is limited to dining and a few quiet bars - there are no noisy discos (giving my age away here!), so, probably not entertaining enough for the 18 to 30's - but, as I have said, that makes it perfect for us.
There are also several gift and souvenir shops - well, wouldn't you expect such in a seaside resort?! but, we recommend that if you want to buy anything other than a few mementos, visit Lagos where the prices are much cheaper.
All in all, a peaceful haven where there's enough going on to spark interest, but generally, a very relaxing resort.
