We travelled from Vilamoura last thursday night having booked a table for 4 at the Fortaleza.
The food, service and overall experience was the best that we have experienced on our travels.
Fantastic setting.
Their was a private wedding party in the restaurant which spread plenty of romance about......so much that another party made a surprise proposal.
The music was excellent with a variety of songs to fit all ages.
Overall a 5 star experience at very reasonable prices!
Thankyou to all at the Fortaleza for a wonderful evening, We will be back!!!

This again was a restaurant I visited of an earlier trip to Luz. Unfortunately, this one did not live up to memories. During this stay we tried the Fortaleza twice, once in the evening and once for lunch.

The evening visit was very disappointing. Despite reserving a table we were crammed in the covered seating area sat so close the the table to our left we may as well have been sitting with them. After a wait of 10 - 15 minutes we were given menu's and orders were taken. Then after another 5 minutes we were asked if we wanted drinks, but not shown the wine menu. This eventually arrived. A further 10 minutes passed, the waiter then returned to tell us that neither of our choices were available (surely it should not of taken that long to discover this?). What made this more odd was one of the choices was Piri-Piri Chicken, how does a Portuguese Restaurant run out of Piri-Piri Chicken at 08:30 at night!?! Menu's were returned and second choices ordered. Some time later the food arrived. Not a lot to write home about. I had a steak (boring choice's but nothing else on the menu stood out). Frustratingly the steak was over cooked and the accompanying veg cold. Mains over with, deserts were chosen. And again after a 10 - 15 minute wait the waiter returned to inform us our desert choices were not available. We decided to pass on desert and just asked for the bil. Another waiter then arrived to advise the same information and demand we order something else. We again declined and asked for the bill. After yet more waiting around the bill arrived. On said bill were the deserts we had not received, so the bill was sent back for correction. When were paying the waiter offered an apology for delays. He said, he had a huge area to cover on his own, as they took too many bookings and do not have enough staff to cope.

All in all, it was a shocking night.

We ate there this evening because they ahve live music on a Thursday. There is an a la carte menu and set menu for 19.95 Euros. Two of us opted for the set menu, which consisted of mussels for starters and a choice of veal or fish for the main course. Dessert was melon. It was very limited, as far as set menus go but it was tasty.
The mussels were excellent, especially the sauce. The serving (half a small pot between two of us) was too small but we were given plenty of bed to mop up the gorgeous sauce with. For the main course we both opted for the fish (monkfish) which I really enjoyed though my mother thought was a bit "peppery". My father had the vegetable soup which we all tried and agreed it was a pretty insipid. However he also had salmon for his main course and it was lovely. We shared a plate of desserts as the melon was a little underwhelming, and it was worth it. For 10Euro we got a plate of desserts which was more than enough for three adults. The music was great! The singers were very personable and entertaining and made it a good night. We would go back.

The setting of this restaurant is fabulous overlooking the sea bit thats where fabulous ends. We found the service very poor with no attention to details. No offer of seasoning, brought out my desert before even taking my husbands desert order!!!
Food was less than average, the veg on both our plates was cold and my husbands duck was so tough. Was v pricey for quality of food we had, will not be returning.
