Zakspitaki B&B

Let me start by saying this is the first review I have ever been compelled to write on Tripadvisor. Most places I have stayed have been great, but nothing compares with our experience at Zakspitaki B&B.

I have never come across more welcoming, helpful and friendly B&B owners than Nick and Helen. They are so proud of the amazing island they live on, willing to help you out if you're stuck for transport and to provide hospitality/advice/suggestions for daily activities. It certainly shows they they both love what they do and the corner of the world they have chosen to live in.

Zakspitaki B&B itself is a charming place - there has been so much care taken in every detail of the restoration of this tradition building. The gardens are beautiful, the view from the plunge pool is stunning and the Zanzibar room possessed such amazing character thanks to the thought and attention to detail from Nick/Helen. Of all the places I have stayed, this place (and especially the room, itself) wins hands down for character, comfort and unique style.

The location of the B&B is perfect - close to one of the 'main' towns on Paxos, but far enough our of the thick of it all to be able to chill out and wind down. Although there are reasonably priced taxis on the island and Nick/Helen were very kind and helpful with lifts, our favourite few days were when we had our 'four wheeler bikes'. This made exploring this amazing island a little bit more achievable. I definitely suggest it!

We hope to go back to Paxos at some point and we wilI definitely stay at Zakspitaki. I am more than happy to be contacted to answer questions about our experience with Nick and Helen at Zakspitaki B&B or Paxos in general, but I'm pretty much just going to tell you to book immediately! You will not regret it.

My partner and I both feel so lucky to have found this fantastic B&B in beautiful Paxos. We were greeted on our arrival by Helen and Nick and began the first week of our stay in the amazing Zanzibar room.

Everyone on here is not exaggerating when they say how fantastic Helen's breakfasts are. We looked forward to the different treats we would get to taste every morning... still thinking about the scrummy banana cake!

Helen and Nick are the perfect hosts, they go out of their way to ensure that you have everything you need. We had some lovely evenings sharing a bottle of wine with them in their beautiful garden. They drove us into Gaios, lent us books from their personal library and entertained us with their travel stories. We actually felt quite sad to leave, not only because Paxos is such a lovely place, but because we felt that we had made some good friends too.

We spent the second week in the Summer House, which we loved. It was so cosy in there and you have your own little seating area outside. The holiday was so relaxing, you could laze around the B&B's gardens, or visit one of the many beaches. I'm not sure what it's like later in the season, but on a couple of occasions there was only us and one other couple on the whole beach! The water is crystal clear and it felt like paradise listening to the gentle waves whilst lying there reading our books.

We hired a scooter to get around the island and we're really glad we did. The walk from the B&B down into Loggos is around 20 minutes and is uphill on the way back. This is no problem if you're keen walkers, but we both enjoyed being able to zip around at our leisure. It was also a great way to see the island and explore.

I you're looking for a relaxing retreat, great hospitality and something a little different, I would highly recommend Zakspitaki. We really hope we can go back there again soon.

We stayed with Nick and Helen at Zakspitaki in June for a week and had a really wonderful time it was just a shame the weather was so changeable. The Zanzibar room is fasntatsic and the bed is so very comfortable. Both Helen and Nick were so friendly and helpful in so many ways i.e. dropping us off at nearby Lakka and Gaois . We spent a few happy evenings sat together with a bottle of wine or two putting the world to rights and listening to Helen and Nicks stories of their travels etc.

It has all been said before about Helen's famous breakfasts but they are really fantastic even to the point that my husband had breakfast every day and he never has breakfast at home.

The only thing I would advise is to hire a car or scooter as the walk down to Loggos is not the easiest (about 20 minutes downhill), but the coming back - uphill all the way (about 30 minutes) - is tiring if you are not a regular or keen walker. Though it does get easier as the weeks goes by.

Roxy's bar is great for a night out and a few beers - say hi to the guys for us.

Paxos is a lovely island - peaceful and quiet with some lovely walks and lovely friendly people. I would highly recommend both Paxos and in particular Zakspitaki bed and breakfast.

Having never been to Greece before, my girlfriend and I took an enormous leap of faith by choosing Paxos, as most people tend to choose other more touristy islands. Our trip to Paxos was the perfect vacation, and Nick and Helen's B&B Zakspitaki was the perfect place to stay. They were amazing hosts and their B&B was incredibly charming. A quiet location situated in beautiful olive groves, it was our dream spot. They arranged the pick up and drop off to/from the ferry, gave us insight on what to do and where to go. We will definitely be back the next time we go to Paxos. We highly recommend this place. It's a gem!

Arriving on Corfu from Athens on the morning flight was a bit hectic, as we were rushing (once again ;). We had a few hours to spend in Corfu city before the hydrofoil boat was bringing us to Paxos.

The boat trip went smoothly and before we knew we arrive at the port Gaios, which is the beautiful and sweet ‘capitol’ of the island Paxos. We were picked up from the port by Nick, and were given a thorough overview of the island on the drive up. Nick is a star on the island (not only because he towers over all the locals) - he knows everyone! He managed to sort out our hire car with just a phone call, no formalities required. What?? No signatures, just one call and drive away? (oh yeah, keys were hidden in the car). The island is surprisingly relaxed, welcoming, green and friendly from the very first seconds there.

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with the B&B, which is tastefully decorated and in a beautiful old stone cottage. The ‘Zanzibar room’ was fabulous - the bed is the most comfortable we've ever had in a hotel and we spent quite a few mornings in there listening to the rain, which apparently was rare for Paxos! The rain made the island so full of scents. This in combination with the wonderful care and a lot of sun made it a paradise.

Every morning we had a tiny bit of rain (except for one morning when it was pouring, which was actually fantastic), but the skies always cleared up very soon, right on time when we had an excellent breakfast served outside. Helen's cooking skills really impress, with fresh breads, jams and lemon curd accompanying local yoghurt, honey and fruits. A great way to get the day started whilst getting some advice about hidden beaches or walks.

One of our top memories of the island was the barbecue (with all fresh local meats and salads) with the other guests and Helen and Nick. We had a fantastic night under the stars with great conversations and wine. The barbeque was actually our own request, as Helen and Nick give you all the space you need (indeed, there were days when we didn't even run into them after breakfast).

In a way we don’t want to recommend you to go (joking!) ;) We want this spot for ourselves. It truly was a fabulous, hospitable, relaxing holiday in paradise. Put one step on it and the island ‘got’ you. The next step you’re welcomed by the wonderful hosts of the Zakspitaki B&B, Helen and Nick.

We’ll be back soon! Keep the room for us :) !!

This tear was our second visit to Paxos and to stay with Nick andHelen. We couldn't wish for anywhere better to stay. The rooms are so unusualand the garden is lovely. Helen makes the most amazing breakfasts and nothing is too much trouble. We really enjoyed chatting to Helen and Nick and they are very knowledgeable about Paxos , where to visit, the best beaches and restaurants etc.We would recommend Zakspitaki to everyone and frequently do . Paxos is a little piece of heaven only 4 hours away. We have already booked for 2010.
