“After a hard day on the beach”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

We spent a number of days on the beach near Trapazaki Beach during our 2 week holiday 3rd - 17th July. I was not overly impressed with Trapezaki Beach, it consited of 2 parts. On arrival turn right and there is a small sandy beach which is very busy. Turn left and the are 2 small very stoney coves with beach beds almost on top of each other. However, if you continue beyond the rocks at the end of the 2 coves you come to a really nice stretch of beach, which is very quiet with nothing on it. This is the section of the beach that we used.

So having spent the day at the beach we would walk back to the Taverna to have a beer before getting the bus back to our accommodation. Check the bus timetable as it changes on a regular basis.

The taverna is decorated very simply but effectively. It was really nice to sit with a cool beer in plesant surroundings.

We did not eat here but other guests at our accommodation did and they enjoyed it. Due to its position and the only taverna on the beach, the menu appeared a bit pricey. It was about £2.40 for a large bottle of cold Mythos beer. The service was a bit slow.

“Good fish and ambitious menu”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

Lovely setting, fresh fish, good wine list (house wines good and cheap), very efficient and friendly service, good chef with ambition to give you something you wouldn't expect by a beach!

“Excellent restaurant with an unusual menu”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

We've visited Denis twice since it was refurbished. The décor is simple but attractive, and of course, being right on the beach is a major advantage.

It's a pleasant change to be offered something other than the stock "Kefalonian" dishes, though most items are at least based on traditional Greek fare - with a twist. (Just as an example, swordfish is very common, but I'd never before come across swordfish with black lentils infused with lemon and lavender - fantastic!)

The first time we visited as a group of five, and every one of us was pleasantly surprised, not only with the food on offer, but with the beautiful presentation. Thankfully, although the restaurant has clearly moved "up-market", the atmosphere has remained friendly and relaxed.

I can honestly say that I have had two of the best meals of my entire life at Denis.

(I should perhaps mention that the daytime menu is much more "traditional taverna-by-the-sea")

“Help, can't stop coming back!”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

I know that Makis thinks we're boring but we can't help coming here at least 2 or 3 times a week for the famous chicken souvlaki at lunchtime (best in the Cosmos). Just don't breathe on anyone after you've eaten, because the marinade is full of garlic, and other secrets. Unfortunately, the place becomes an up market restaurant in the evening (beautiful decor and setting), so we have to go there in the evenings as well. Life is very hard indeed! All the staff are charming and attentive, and the food is very unusual for Kefalonia, very tasty, and beautifully presented. There again, we are biased because we've been coming here for years and love Makis. Finally, the 'piece de resistance', is that Makis still let's me have my ketchup with my Michelin standard meal in the evening. I told him not to worry about it because I ask for the same thing at Rick Steins!

“nice but...”
Reviewed July 18, 2014 via mobile

nice place, beautiful sea.
but, there is a BUT. When someone goes to a beach place and asks to drink a coffee its not really nice to limit their sitting options just because they are not going to spend a fortune to eat...
we entered the place and when we asked if they serve coffee the manager said yes in a hessitative way and then pointed us to the table that is actually next to the kitchen. you see the other tables are for the nobles that are paying to eat....
