You look at the images of this hotel on the web site and think, yeah that's all air brushed to make it look better than it is. When you arrive and look around, it instantly reminds you of those images on the web site, it really is that striking. Check in was quick, porter took our bags to our room in the furthest block back, above the little on site shop. Nice big airy room, as others have mentioned quite minimalistic, good clean shower room, kettle provided, but no mugs or cups, a quick call to reception and these were provided by the time we got back later in the day. Flat screen tv in room, although we did not use it, hair dryer also provided, and a mini fridge to keep your beers and water cold! Free safe in the wardrobe, and this was the only gripe all week, as it locked itself 4-5 times during the week, only reception can open and reset them. The food, both breakfast and dinner were really good, excellent in fact, we heard no complaints all week. There was a British shef, so we were told, with a few Greek understudies, they all did a great job in keeping the buffet topped up at all times with freshly cooked dishes. The only complaint at meal times was, it tended to be a bit of a scrum to serve yourself at times, but if you timed it right by eating a bit later the resturant had quietened down and it was fine. The pool and surrounding area was really chic with comfy loungers and parasols aplenty, the same went for the private beach area. The pool bar was pretty expensive : 5 Euros for what they called a large beer, I would say a small one, 5-6 Euros for a gin and tonic etc. Take a bit of advice and get up to the little minimarket up the end of the lane and stock up with a few Mythos beers and snacks, 1-50 for a 500ml bottle, take them back and enjoy on your balcony before dinner, happy days! The lady running the little minimarket is also a real gem, I can't remember her name, but I always called her Mama, had a great laugh with her. Anything you need to know about the area, and she will gladly give you loads of info. Talking of which, we never saw the Thomas Cook rep until 2 days prior to departure, so no welcome party or advice on trips etc, pretty poor everyone thought. Good job Mama was on hand in the minimarket!! Next door to the minimarket and part of the same buisiness is a little bar run by Yannis, get in there and have a few beers with him, he's ace, so laid back and he'll concoct any drink you want!! He's good value too, charges 2-50 for large beer,1-50/ 2 Euros for a coffee,so quite a few of those got sunk over the week! The area was very quiet when we were there, most tavernas were empty even on a saturday night, but it was only the second week of the season, most people seemed to be at Yannis's bar, so that was good. The surounding beaches were fantastic, need a bit of a walk to get to, or hire a car. All in all, a great hotel in a picturesque area, good food, great beaches, no shops, as quite a few people by the pool mentioned, perfect place to chill! Go, you won't be disappointed.Diplomatically speaking, Luce from London must have stayed in a different hotel judging by his review

We have been coming to the bay since 2008.

We love this place for it’s great location; it’s very friendly staff, its nice style, and its tasty food.

Through out the years we have become friendly with a lot of the staff here, like Bianca, Maria, Aldi, Maki ect, who are always willing to help and make your holidays special.

Last year they told us that the hotel would be undertaking a renovation during the winter, so we were expecting to see things done to it this summer.

On arrival at the hotel we were definitely not expecting to see this end result.

The hotel was great in 2012, but the hotel this year is just AMAZING!

It has come up to an other standard.

It was such a delight to spend our time around this most stylish and relaxing pool area.

The rooms have such a style, and they are so inviting and comfortable.

The reception area, and the whole hotel have a very relaxing, modern minimalistic style.

We are so impressed with it, we just can’t say enough!!

We usually go around the beaches of Vassilikos in our holidays, but this time we just stayed in the hotel, as we just could not get away!!

Up to now we liked this hotel, now we love it!!

We have booked to come back again this September and just can’t wait.

Looking at the hotel website & reviews I was looking forward to our stay, however The Bay Hotel did not live up to my expectations. Correct me if I'm wrong but on the hotel website there are 5 stars displayed this certainly is nowhere near the standard of a 5 star hotel, I would say at best an average 4 star hotel. Our greeting on arrival at reception was pretty lack lustre & did not seem very welcoming. The room was furnished in a minimalist style which is fine but lacked enough information about room & hotel facilities. Wifi was pretty non existent & couldn't use the Internet in my room. The state of the bathroom was really quite poor with mouldy tiles around the bath & after having a bath all the dirty water started poring out of the drain flooding the floor! When we called reception we were told this is because of narrow pipes & we should let the water out of the plug slowly, not what I'd expect from this so-called class of hotel. Dinner was pretty awful with the buffet, more like a cattle market with flies around the food & poor choice. Sorry I would not stay here again or recommend given my experience. On the plus side the private beach was nice being so close & a well suited hotel for families with the parks & activities.

If you want a carefree, relaxing holiday, The Bay is the place to be.
I was there early in May when they had just opened for the season. The countryside was green from the winter rain, and the spring flowers were still in bloom. The sun was shining and the sea was warm.

The hotel is situated in several acres of grounds, in quiet countryside, and it has its own clean, sandy beach. (Formerly, the hotel was called The Golden Bay, alluding to the colour of the sand.) The accommodation is not contained in one monolithic block; but rather the apartments are spread out attractively in several low rise buildings. My apartment, like most I believe, had a sea view. It had a balcony and felt spacious. It was certainly kept clean, as was all the hotel and its grounds. My ensuite had a shower over the bath - do some people still like to have a bath?

The hotel has a fairly large, attractive swimming pool, and a smaller pool for children. Close by is the usual bar / snack bar. There is a mini market in the grounds, a couple of tennis courts, and a small open air theatre. (And there is a gym, I believe, though I didn't seek that out.) The driveway to the public road is about 300 metres long, and by the roadside there is mini market and a bar, with a bus stop for buses into Zakynthos town. The bus service, though, is infrequent, and if you want to get around the island you may want to hire a car, or a quad. Taxi fares are regulated, and it cost 20 Euros from Zakynthos town to the hotel. If you want the night life, this is probably not the hotel for you.

From the hotel, I got onto a day trip around the Island with the Thomas Cook's visitors - well worth doing. Notable for me was seeing the third oldest olive tree in Europe - said to be 2,000 years old! (See the Cook's board in the hotel.) The country wines, too, were excellent, and cheap.

The walk to the turtle beach at Gerakas is perhaps about 4 km through pleasant countryside. Here there is a long stretch of sandy beach where you can swim, and, on the cliff top, there are some tavernas and a research centre explaining all about the turtles. On the way, you pass a pottery centre, where they hold pottery workshops for adults and children.
Also there are water sports available from beaches fairly near to the hotel.

Because it is in such a sheltered location, well away from any road, the hotel would be a good base for a family holiday with young children.

One evening while I was at the hotel, there was some Greek music and dancing - I was pleased to be able to join in one of the dances.

So if you want a care-free holiday, the Bay is the place to be. Your biggest stress will be choosing what to eat! Breakfast and dinner are served as buffets, and there is a very wide choice of tasty food of all sorts.

Room Tip: A variety of accommodation is available.

We have just returned from a week at the Bay hotel 2nd-9th June. This is our second visit-we went last year at the same time and enjoyed it so much we decided to go back again. We had a lovely suite with sea views which was very comfortable and spacious. It had a kitchenette as well which was great. There had been a few changes over the year , all for the better. There were improvements to the pool, kids pool, pool bar area and terraces around the pool. The food was as good as ever, with plenty of choice. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The private beach is very pretty and the hotel is in a lovely part of the island.

We stayed at the Bay for two weeks in May 2013. We booked through Thomas Cook and thought that the hotel was excellent value for money. The room was minimalist but stylish and comfortable. We had a nice big bed and a balcony from which we could see the sea (although we did not pay the extra for a sea view room).

Food wise there is a buffet for breakfast, which is not amazing but certainly not bad. Lots of fruit and lovely fresh tomatoes. For lunch you can eat at the pool bar which we did twice, both meals were very good quality and reasonable value for money – similar to UK prices. Most days we popped to the beach bar next door for lunch though for a change of scene and to save some pennies. The buffet dinner varied in quality, some nights it was pretty good others it was not great. I think that Veggies may struggle with it too. The service in the buffet restaurant was very hit or miss. Sometimes over zealous with your plate being cleared before you had even put your cutlery down but then at least once a day one of us would have to get up to try to find waiting staff to get things like cutlery. We abandoned the idea of getting drinks with dinner as they tended to turn up when we were nearly finished so we just took our own bottle of water.

The facilities, in particular the pool and beach at the hotel were good and the main reason we booked it. Most of the action is down by the pool which is where the only hotel bar is located too. There are fantastic sofa areas - with cushions that make you feel you will never get up again. The beach is beautiful sand and you can walk right out into the sea without the water passing hip height. The pool itself is a good size and we never struggled for loungers.

Our main issue with the Bay is that we travelled as a couple and we felt that it is targeting itself at young families - for whom I think it would be perfect. There were a lot of babies and very young children, which we weren't quite expecting. There is a kid’s pool which was very well used and poolside could get pretty noisy during the day - you can escape this by choosing loungers on the rocks away from the pool. Dinner time was also very child friendly. We would recommend holding off until 8.30 by which time most of the families have been. I don't want to sound child unfriendly but TC advertises this hotel as perfect for couples - which we would disagree with. It did not ruin our trip but would make us think twice about returning to this hotel.

The area that the hotel is in is very rural and there really is not a lot to do - this was exactly what we were looking for as we wanted to chill out and the Bay is perfectly located for this. We would really encourage anyone that stays at the hotel to venture out to the local bars and tavernas as the hospitality we experienced from the locals really made our holiday.

Room Tip: We had a room in the main hotel block which was a good option I think, we had a seaview although our...
