I found Vasilikos Beach Hotel to be a decent 3 star hotel. We stayed there for 4 days in June, having a small break from work and we had a very nice time.
The hotel is quite nice; the pool is quiet and big, which my kids loved! There is a pool bar for your coffee or drink which provides some food also. Air conditioning was not charged extra to us.The only think that I was a bit disappointed, was the rooms. Not mine only, probably all of them, the furniture seemed old and gave me the impression that they need to be renovated. I think that if and when that happens, the hotel could easily be considered a four star. The price offered to us for the stay was very good, which is also one of the reasons we visited.
The beach is 100m walking distance and is a great one. Crystal waters, sandy, ideal for kids and when we went there, not crowded at all. There is a beach bar where you can get your coffee, drink or snack.
The island is marvelous. So many places to visit, so many things to do. Do visit Zakynthos, it can provide vacation for all tastes.
I would visit again. It is a very nice place to stay.

Room Tip: If you can, ask for sea view, there are only a few of them. All the others face each other or the gr...

We booked through thomas cook and were on a night flight from manchester which was the worst flight ever! 80% of the passengers were drunk 18 year old louts going to laganas, shouting at the top of their voices, girls screaming, ive actually seen 10 year old children with more intelligence and maturity. Im surprised there wasnt a fight on the plane becuase im quite a chilled out guy just turned 30 but 4 hours trapped on a plane with some idiot continuously making animal noises, i was ready to knock him out lol! After that ordeal was over we arrived by taxi provided by thomas cook to the hotel around 0630 to find an envelope stuck to the locked reception door with our room key in it. we also found a couple sat outside the reception who had arrived an hour earlier and had no room key left for them and the reception did not open untill 8, oh dear. We had no idea where the room was so we were left to wonder the complex looking for our room. When we found it we were quite dissappointed that we didnt have a sea view and that the room was very basic with a tiny shower tray and very worn mattresses. We then went down to breakfast and asked if we could change rooms which i think hilary took offence at and said all the rooms are the same standard but she did give us another room which was slightly better. After i had walked round the grounds i noticed that there is only one block of rooms that face the sea which must have about 10 rooms in it, the other 50 or so face each other or wasteland so the chances of you getting a sea view are slim!
Breakfast, if you dont like bread your in trouble! there are boiled eggs and fruit and lots of bread but thats about it. There are cerials but the bowls provided are tiny to obviously stop you eating too much which was the general vibe we got of the whole hotel. We turned up to breakfast one day at 930 and there was nothing left, bearing in mind breakfast was between 8 and 10.
The hotel is well cleaned but you do only get fresh towels every few days. We hung our towels on the balcony to dry to find when we got back late afternoon the towels were wet as a hose pipe had broke and sprayed all the balconies. We asked hilary for new towels and she said you will get new ones tommorrow, to which we replied so how do we dry ourselves after our shower tonight? she then reluctantly gave us one towel to which we asked for another as there were two of us and she was not happy?!
The next problem was aircon which we thought was included in the room as we had paid nearly £1000 for the holiday for 2 of us. 7 euros a day extra for the aircon which over 7 nights is 50 euros, the safe is 2 euros a night so another 14 euros there and then we realised that our flight home was at 0730 and the taxi was picking us up at 0430 but we had to be out of our room the day before at mid day. We new the reception closed at midnight so we said to hilary what are we supposed to do until 0430 in the morning, just sit outside for 4 and a half hours in the dark after already leaving our room 12 hours earlier which is ridiculous. She said that most people pay for another night in the same room at 30 euros which we did as we hadnt much choice. So after paying for our holiday with thomas cook we forked out another 100 euros to hilary which we werent happy about.
Another small issue was that we asked hilary at reception to phone our rep to book a trip and she passed the phone over and after 5 minutes of myself talking to the rep she moaned that we were taking too long on the phone as it was costing her money. I found this very unprofessional as i was in mid conversation with the rep writing information down about pick up times for a trip. The impression hilary gave us was shes very happy to take your money but as soon as you start costing her money she will be quite abrupt towards you.
All these things aside though, the pool and pool area is very nice and clean and there is a very nice little beach at the bottom of the grounds with lovely clear sea water. The pool bar serves good food and is quite cheap, 4 euros for a large chicken baguette salad. The pool is also very quiet which we loved. You certainly dont have to fight for sunloungers, in fact one day we were the only couple round the pool and had the whole pool to ourselves! We couldnt get the jacuzzi working though. The location of the hotel is good too as there are lots of beautiful beaches to visit in the area but a car or quad is needed as some beautiful beaches like gerakas beach is too far to walk. There are a couple of watersport beaches 5 mins walk from the hotel, st nicholas beach or bannana beach further down the road which all have jet skis, scuba diving, para sailing, banana boats etc. Sun loungers and umberellas are between 5 and 8 euros a day for two people depending on which beach you go to. There are two cheap tavernas opposite the hotel which serve ok food and a much better restaurant further down the road, slightly more expensive but much better food.
Car hire, do not book car hire with thomas cook avis, its twice the price of the local car hire place, we asked hilary to call the guy and he sorted us a car for a few days at half the price. He actually upgraded us to a jeep for the same price as a car as he had no cars left!
The thomas cook rep for this resort is useless (michael). He comes for the first day introduction but thats the last you see of him. We called him and booked the turtle boat trip, which was amazing at 17 euros each. He told us the coach would pick us up the next day at 0730 outside the supermarket down the street but he wouldnt have time to drop us the ticket off so he said he will give it to the boat captain. The next day we got to the supermarket at 0715 and waited till 0815, no coach. We went back to hotel, called thomas cook and spoke to someone else who said were booked on the 1030 trip and had no idea why michael told us 0730. So we went back again at 1030 and this time the coach pulled up and the driver asked for the ticket which i knew in the back of my mind would happen. We said the rep had given the ticket to the boat but the bus driver wasnt having it. After 5 minutes of trying to explain this he rang the boat captain and he said we were booked on the 3 oclock boat trip???? ridiculous. He let us on eventually and the trip was worth it but it would have been nicer without all the hassle. That wasnt the only mess up either. On leaving the hotel to come home we were told a taxi would pick us up at 0430. so we sat outside at 0415 and waited and waited.....at 0500 we started getting a little worried as the reception was closed and we had no way of ringing a taxi of our own. We rang the emegency thomas cook number and got through to micheal who was at the airport and said he would ring us back, 15 minutes later he rang to say a taxi was on its way so they had obviously not sent one to pick us up which could have been a disaster if my mobile wasnt charged as we would have no way of getting to the airport or contacting anyone!
Compared to other holidays of similar price this holiday has been the worst but zante is a lovely island and boasts some of the best beaches ive ever seen and we saw some of the sea turtles swimming in the bay which was fab. It wouldnt take much to update the rooms a little and include the aircon in the room price and sack that rep! Then we would have had a better experience and would have given 5 star review as there is alot of good things about the hotel which is hard to find in most hotels like the location and tranquility of the vasilikos beech.

We have just got back from a 2 week stay with Hilary, at the Vasilikos Beach, and it was wonderful! The hotel is very friendly and Hilary is a brilliant host, and does everything she can to make your stay wonderful. The Hotel is kept lovely and clean, the grounds and the pool are really lovely. I cannot fault this hotel at all!
Reading what others have put on their reviews - Yes, it is a very Quiet area, we hired a quad for a week, great fun and we got to see loads of places and beaches, so yes you do need transport really. The niggles some people seem to have with the breakfasts, and the hire of the sunbeds on the beaches and the showers etc etc - GOD - what do you all expect - honestly?
The breakfast is typical greek - with loads of breads and cakes and cheeses and yoghurt etc - all lovely and fresh. The shower is a bit of a pain - but you improvise - no problem!
and EVERYWHERE hired the sunbeds out - not just Vasilikos beaches! 6 euro for 2 and a parasol for all day - not going to break the bank is it! OR stay by the pool - they are all free!
I would highly recommend this hotel - this island - and definitely this area if you want a stress free holiday. Well done Hilary. And big kisses to her lovely Labradors.
We will be back to see you soon. x

We have just arrived back from a friends wedding in Zante and stayed at Vasilikos Beach Hotel for a week. Luckily we had good weather and refreshingly were able to secure a sun bed of our choice daily without a fight! The atmosphere was cosy, welcoming and intimate.  The beds were clean as were the towels. The hotel is in a quiet hamlet, the rooms could be enhanced with a matching more updated wardrobe facility, the grounds are well kept and staff work hard to be accommodating. There is also ample parking if reqd. It has a family feel, is close to the beach and lunch time snacks are good.  We feel that it was good value for money, there are tired areas of the room that could be enhanced by the quality of finish but at the same time you do need to remember this is Greece and it remains a good value 3 star hotel.

My Wife and I spent a week with Hilary in early May this year. What an amazing time. Beautiful weather, a lovely pool, great food and a very helpful, friendly team that made you feel like one of their extended family. The rooms were super clean and airy with the best views, the beach (when we made it that far) sandy, with the clearest med water ideal for snorkelling.
Hilary and the team take a huge amount of pride in the hotel and in their service, and we couldn't recommend this hotel and island highly enough.

I love this hotel, and even more its setting, with the best beaches on zante (after ship wreck cove - but that's best viewed from above!)

Not much more i can say on last year's review, except the pillows had been replaced, so other than crickety beds and basic rooms it really is the perfect hotel, and to be honest we wouldn't want it any other way!

The pool is idyllic, the garden very pituresque for a yummy breakfast, and the cocktails highly recommended!

A nice touch were the tea lights that hilary puts out every night, they make the pool bar look so pretty and it's just such a magical place for a cheap and cheerful holiday :)

I just wish we could go back every year!

So much rain at home, decided to get a quick week away.

Visited this hotel and Vasilkos before for its peace and quiet.

Couple of points:

Our room had a lovey new matress and cover on and although early in the season roms had been well aired and recently recorated. Yes basic rooms but perfectly adequate and lovely sea view from Room 124. There was no need for air con.

Breakfast was scrummy with fresh local produce

St Nicholas beach was lovely with wonderful salads at lunchtime.

Will be back.
