“Mario's Cave & Turtle Day Trips”

This was one of the best trips we have ever done.Mario is a wonderful guide/host
. There was so much to see & we were lucky seeing not one but 4 turtles & a tiny baby turtle being helped to the sea by a local guide! We also experienced an unreal swim in the caves - unbelievably fantastic! There were other forms of marine life to see through the glass bottom of the boat too.The whole day was unforgetable and when we return to Zakynthos we would definitely do this trip again. Michael & Lizzie Smith - Wokingham
Do not go to this Island without doing this trip - it's essential!

“Trip not to missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

Going out on Marios' boat trip is really something else! With a maximum of 25 passengers you feel really special and a sort of family atmosphere develops as the day goes on.
You have several stops for swimming and Marios has spare snorkels and fins if you want to borrow them.
He is really ace at finding turtles, and now in September when they are few and far between he still manages, but go in June /Julyand you will be falling over them!!

He takes you to the Keri Caves with fabulous blue water, to Marathonisi Island, a big turtle nesting place, for a beach stop, and to a lovely Taverna at Agios Sostis for a lunch stop. (Though of course you can do what you want for lunch!) If you want authentic Greek food I would follow this reccomendation,Then spends some time in Lagagas Bay turtle spotting. Has some interesting things to stop and look at on the way home, before a final swim stop.

It really is a great day out. So good we have done it several times over the years we have been coming here!!

“Great boat trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

We booked a full day excursion with Mario to visit keri caves & turtle island with plenty of snorkelling in between. We saw a loggerhead turtle just after lunch where we took advantage of the glass bottom for some impressive photos which made the day a complete success. Unlike most other crammed boats, we had a relaxed trip as Marios boat holds a max of 25 passengers with a relaxed, personal touch. Highly recommend a day out on Mario's Boat!

“A brilliant day out (and pretty exhausting!!) you must go!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

Mario is a delightful guy (where does he get that fantastic head of hair??!!) with a superb command of English who will explain all the delights that you will see during the day. Without doubt, his small publicity flyer does not properly explain what a wonderful day-out you will have on his glass bottom boat and what that day will have in store for you.

He makes an early start from Porto Roma (close by Vasiliykos Beach) and will probably arrange to pick you up if you have no direct transport to Porto Roma (where there is also a GREAT reasonably-priced fish restaurant overlooking Mario's boat mooring - ask him about the discounts!!).

His boat is a good sized (20-25 people) flat bottomed launch which gives a smooth ride to all the sites that he will visit. You are quickly round the southern peninsula and then into the expanse of calm clear blue waters of Laganas Gulf where there are numerous nesting sites for the beautiful "caretta caretta" turtles. Mario will take you, via stunning to Turtle Island where you can see the tracks of the female turtles going up the beach to lay their eggs. You can also swim and snorkel using masks and snorkels that he has on board.

If you are lucky, Mario will be able to show you turtles that return to the bay year after year. Their number will depend on the time of the year with May/June being their most populous time. Nevertheless, we saw 2 magnificent specimens and were thrilled by this spectacle of them leisurely swimming around the boats.

Mario takes you around the south-western cape (Cape Marathia) where you will visit sparkling-blue caves into which Mario navigates his boat with exceptional accuracy. At many points you will have the opportunity to swim in the crystal clear blue waters around the coast. Mario dives into these waters and points out the array of starfish and sea urchins that cling to the rocks.

For lunch, Mario moors his boat in shallow waters at the end of Laganas beach where you can walk up the beach to a local taverna to take a leisurely lunch before boarding the boat for the return. On the way back, he will point out the wreckage of the unfortunate schooner that sunk on it's maiden voyage carrying rocks from the quarry.

This is a full day of delights and really is an excellent way to see the splendid delights of the southern coast of Zante. A Highly recommended excursion!!!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

We were amazed how our child of 9 month loved that trip. The trip itself was calm, fasinating and sunny) The boss of the boat- Mario in professional way was very helpful and his knowledge of every kind sea animal surprised us! With his help we saw 2 turtles and it's a big thing because it's not their season now! Also we stopped in places where your tour companies will never stop or let you to swim with mask... The atmosphere on the boat was loving and warm, i would warn people who doesn't speak English, please find somebody who does or translate you info that Mario says, moreover you won't understands jokes that are on a boat) thank you Mario and all who were on a boat on 11th of September... With love from Alexandros& Elenas)
