Just returned from 11 nights at this hotel. Have never booked a 3* all inclusive before and we were a bit concerned as we always go 4 or 5 * usually. This hotel well exceeded our expectations in every way. We had paid a little extra for a sea view premium apartment and whilst we did not see the basic rooms our apartment was fantastic with all new fittings and finishes. The kitchen area is very basic with microwave, small hob and fridge but the bedrooms are a great size (we had a 2 bed) and a sofa bed in the living room. The living room and master bedroom offer TV/DVD too. The shower room was impressive with the biggest shower head ever possible and great water pressure (no bath). We only used the aircon a couple of times as we prefer fresh air but it was useful to have it. The pools are not huge but both are immaculately clean. The main pool is by the restaurant and by and offers family entertainment throughout the day ie. water polo, table tennis tournaments, shuffleboard games and there was also a lot of choice for kids from the entertainment team, IE football and tennis etc. The 2nd upper pool is much quieter and more chilled with extensive sun terraces and loungers, great views and a bigger pool. The bar only opens from 11am to 12.30am and again from 3.30pm to 6.30pm and offers soft drinks, beers, wines, local spirits and a big freezer full of ice-cream plus a few cake and biscuit snacks. On first impressions the main restaurant looked small and a bit like a canteen with plastic chairs and when we arrived at 11pm at night we thought the buffet serving area look really small but appearances were deceptive. The food was excellent, always fresh and always ample choice with something for everyone. We always ate outside on the terrace to enjoy the air and the atmosphere. Around 9pm each evening the crazy kids disco started with all the kids from age 2 up to 18 joining in dancing the conger around the pool and then the same 6 international songs (drove me a bit crazy after the first 5 times). Our boys age 11, 11 and 14 loved it, they joined in with the other kids every night and went off to play table tennis and games until 11.30 every night, they made loads of friends and said it was the best holiday ever (despite the fact they were quite snobby and said that the pool and the buffet was small when we first arrived). The resort is small and very safe. A couple of times we left the kids at the hotel with their friends and went to the beach for a quite drink overlooking the water away from the kids disco (very reasonable at 2.50e for a glass of wine). The internet is available free but it is slow and works on a hotspot, the internet at the beach bar was better and you can get hotel tokens for drinks between 11am and 7pm. The hotel staff were lovely but the beach bar staff are the most miserable and rude bunch of people ever so we just laughed at them and played the game in order not to get upset by their antics.
We took the boat trip from the beach to Portinatx for the day, 10e per adult and 5e per child and well worth it. Portinatx is lovely for a visit and bigger than San Miguel so offers more shops, restaurants and a CASH POINT (no cash point in San Miguel resort). The boat trip took 40 minutes and left at 10.30 returning at 6.30 and we took a packed lunch from the hotel which was edible but not very interesting, just a ham/cheese sandwich, water, fruit and a small cake). Highly recommend the hamburgers in Portinatx and San Miguel as they are exceptional if you do not want a packed lunch.
We had a car from Jamie for 1 day at 55e with 2 drives and 10e extra for zero excess so nothing else to pay. We collected the car at 7pm and spent the first evening in Ibiza town which is well worth the visit. We walked all around the marina with very expensive boats, all over Dalt Vila with its stunning views and all through the old town where we stopped for drinks in the main street with street entertainers and 100's of glamorous people (drinks were reasonable but food looked pricy but really excellent). The next day we went to the water park which cost 34e for all 5 of us, we booked through Jamie and paid for 2 adults at 17e and all kids go free. We then returned to the hotel for showers and supper and headed off to sunset strip in San Antonio for the sunset before returning the car.
The beach is no more than a 5 minute walk and the free kayaking on offer from the hotel is great. You get 30 minutes per day for free but if you pay 5 euros you get an hour. There are lots of little beaches and boat jetty's you can kayak too and snorkel in crystal clear waters away from all the people. There are other non motorised water sports and banana rides available at exra cost but with discount from the hotel.
There are 2 supermarkets close to the hotel both offering a large selection of everyday products as well as gifts, swimwear etc. There are no nightclubs in San Miguel and nowhere for kids or teenagers to get in trouble as the whole resort is very family orientated.
Dont be put off by the comments about the hill. The walk up from the beach is a small low rise hill. The walk from the main restaurant to the top apartments is really not that bad, it is just about 20 shallow rise steps followed by a small hill and if your legs work you will appreciate the walk after the buffet.
Hotel is well situated, well maintained, very clean and the entertainment and bar staff are really great. If you want to chill out and go to a place where your kids will be safe and entertained night and day and make friends this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Book the premium sea view room, the apartments are located by the top pool with incredible views and...

Ok food. Clean and comfortable hotel. Swimming pool small. No chance of a bed unless you get at up at the crack of dawn. But you are on holiday!!!!! Beach was the best bit of the holiday, even though we spent nearly a hundred quid for beds and umbrella. Lovely clear sea with lots of fish. A family resort, and if you have young kids, they will love it. Nighttime entertainment....a bit old. Zorro thinks he is the main man.....sorry son, get a life and go and see what the Dominican Republic and Mexico offer! Overall, a nice week, in wonderful weather xxx

Me and my family 2 adults 3 kids just got back from a 10 day stay here. Cant understand the bad reviews as this place was totally my cup of tea. 2 pools but the main pool was the best with a relaxing atmosphere and games/entertainment when you wanted to join in. The entertainers Sonny and Rashid were fantastic, took to all the kids and genuinely enjoyed playing the various games and sports with them and the adults alike. Food was good, buffet style, nice choice and never overcrowded. Bar staff nice and friendly also. Nice mix of english, spanish and german people on holiday. Only downside was no cash mashine or bank for miles. If you plan on spending, make sure you take enough euros.

After arriving at our room (myself, my husband & 3 children) at 2am we were faced with dead cockroaches & beetles on the floor! Dead insects in corners of rooms & under beds which stayed with us for the week ... We removed the cockroaches!
We had 2 bathrooms due to 2 rooms, we couldn't use one of the bathrooms as the plug was too big for the bath & the shower would not attach to the wall.
A pair of trainers did mysteriously disappear from our room.
Couldn't use all of the line on the balcony as the air conditioning unit constantly leaked & also there was a leak from the balcony above us which meant we couldn't use half of the balcony.
Rooms smelt musty.
If you go to reception in the afternoon your asked to go back in the morning as non English speaking, when you do go back in the morning the guy is very unhelpful, like he can't be bothered.
Not a great deal of selection with food. Thankfully they served chips most nights otherwise we would have been hungry .... This hotel really doesn't cater for kids!!!!
The only compliment I can give this place is to the guys, Sonny & Rachid, who do the entertainment. They are great with the kids :-)

Good Luck if you are going to this place, I hope you have a better experience then myself & my family did.

Was a bit worried about going to Ibiza, when that's all the travel agent could find.having 3 small children. We stayed at the esmeralda, with a sea view beautiful modern room.most days we had the pool to ourselves.very clean hotel, food was ok not wonderful but we always found something we liked. Staff really friendly. Definitely not a hotel for 18-30s neither is this part of the island.very small and quiet.never been to same place twice but this is a hotel we are going to go back year after year.

This was our first time in Ibiza. We hired a private transfer from the airport which took 25-30mins. On arrival the reception staff were very helpful however the walk up to the room with the suitcases was a little difficult with 2 small children and a lot of steps. Nice pool view room, however room was very basic. Maid service 6 days per week. We were all inclusive which meant kids could get lollies/icecreams drinks whenever they wanted which was ideal. Breakfast served from 8-11am, then snacks, lunch 1-3pm, then snacks, evening meal 7-9pm, then snacks again 10-11pm. Good choice of meals at lunch/evening meals, pastas, rices, fish, meats, salad, bread rolls, soup, french fries/roast potatoes/jacket potatoes, pizza, chicken nuggets, spring rolls, fish fingers, ham/cheese rolls. Each day the meal was different with a wide variety. I enjoyed my meal each day however my husband is very fussy so he only had the plain food each day. Also yoghurts, fresh fruit and plenty of choice of deserts after each meal. Daytime entertainment for the kids was really good, Sonny and Rashid were fantastic, they really made our holiday!! Events throughout the day, killer pool, darts, table tennis, made up tasks, quite entertaining for us adults too. One day their was an arranged walk up to the cave, another day there was a group visit the banana boats but we were happy to just chill around the pool. Kids disco starts at 8.30pm and lasts approx 20mins, kids loved this and some adults get dragged up too which was good to watch, then there is other entertainment arranged, from parrot show, bingo, quiz night, music night, mr san miguel competition for the men, comedy/singer who was really funny. Only negative about the night is that the bar shuts at 11pm, which makes the night feel really short as the entertainment doesnt start until 8.30pm. Beach short walk from the hotel, down a slight hill but not as hard as some people have commented previously. My 3 year old with a heart condition was able to walk back up. Few shops and bar/restaurants on the walk down to the beach. Ideal location if you're wanting a quiet convenient holiday. We had a day at the water park which we arranged through a lady down at the excursion shop, enjoyed this too however our children were very limited as to what they were allowed on. Overall, great holiday, I would definately return.

Room Tip: If youre wanting a sea view room be aware that it is quite a walk from the restaurant up to the room...
