This is set in the middle of nowhere. We were supposed to be in a room with aircon. The hotel, in our opinion, was overbooked and were were put in the building (other residents call it the cell block) across the road. It has a/c, ants and a variety of bugs.We complained and were moved to a room at the back of the main building with ceiling fan for the rest of our stay. The pool area is nice and the staff very obliging. Forget 15 mins to the beach. It's double. There is a path at the back of the cell block which no doubt is a 15 min walk, however it belongs to the Indian Navy. Whilst we were there they had 3 days of bombing and strafing runs. I reckon you could get to the beach in 15 seconds. Cavalossim is a taxi ride away. Not much there really. A few decent restaurants sums it up. Don't try walking back at night. The dogs roam in packs and can be aggressive.ditto on the beach. We went for new year and the sea is definitely no go. There's not much culturally in the whole area, so if you just want to eat, drink and lie on the beach this is for you. About average for a 2 star.

Room Tip: They choose where to put you. Its up to you how you respond.

The hotel is great in terms of basic facillities, has a lovely pool and is in gorgeous surroundings. The area is v quiet in terms of activity so as long as you like that and appreciate nature and peace you should be happy. We were happy to hire bikes and get out and about, it's possible to cycle easily to different resorts along the beach and to get to the river ferry in Cavellosim. No complaints at all about the room or food but the guests are largely regulars who can be a little stand-offish if you are not "their type of people"!

Just returned from a 2 week stay at Dona Sa Maria. We booked this holiday with Thomas Cook after it had been recommended by friends. it was exactly as they had said, basic, clean, friendly, with good food. For us it proved to be a perfect base for getting out and about and visits to the beach, We either walked or used a taxi, many hired motor scooters. Savio & Jeffrey, were helpful and friendly in the restaurant, Anita & the night porter Rodrigo were helpful in the reception. The rooms were basic but fine the downside for me was the noise of the fan which at times disturbed our sleep and the beds were hard but you do get used to them. We would most definitely return we had a lovely holiday,

Room Tip: We were on the first floor at the back of the main building, room 202 and it was fine.

This hotel is very good value for the money. I read the reviews before we went, and was surprised people expect a T.V and night life in a hotel described as "in a peaceful location". It was also a 15 minute taxi drive to any night life.

If you want a quiet relaxing holiday at a budget price, this is the hotel for you. ~it is quiet, and there is no local night life! The staff are helpful and friendly, they really try to ensure you have a good time.

It would have been helpful for the hotel owners, to put an information sheet in the room, for first timers like myself.

The rooms were cleaned daily, but could be improved, by being cleaned to a higher standard, plus the beds were very hard, and took some getting used to!

As soon as you get to this hotel I suggest you go straight to the local store and buy a couple of electric mozzie killers, they are less than a quid each. Whilst there were not many mozzies, when we fitted two of these in the room, we were never bothered again!

I would also strongly suggest you ensure your room has a smoke alarm as the electricity fittings are pretty grim to say the least.

The food was really at a good standard, and actually fairly priced - the tandoori nights were well worth the price and I am missing the tiger prawns already.

Overall we had a great two weeks at a fantastic price in a beautiful part of the world.

Spent 2 weeks in this hotel and found owners and staff making us feel comfortable with top service. Liked the idea of using local services to keep the local economy going. All the services leave very little impact on the local population and environment like the sheets which are not bleached but clean. The food was excelent from fish and chip, steaks and all manner of indian food. Thoroughly recommend this non commercial hotel.

Having ventured to Peru going first class this year as well as Skiing in Switzerland, visiting Holland France, Spain Greece & Turkey so far in the last 12 months and have travelled all over Indai, I was surprised at daveymeanswells arrogance suggesting only non travelling visit Dona Sa Maria, It is a very simple Indian Hotel, Serafino if you ask him will tell you Goa`s history and as a member of the local Lions club has loads of info about the area, You get what you pay for, the breakfast is fine its les than a pound extra for scrambled eggs for gods sake...Evening meals are ok you can get steak & chips for 225rupees within your allowance, The staff are friendly but run on Goan time so chill out and take your time. I took a bike this year( £50 return with Thos Cook who allow up to 30kgs ) the area is great to cycle round and great fun, the wildlife is superb and the traffic is not a problem, Catch the bus to Margoa, have a Boattrip,Just walk even, it is quiet but that is its draw.Try it you will enjoy it.

Room Tip: Overlooking back of hotel on the first floor, its quieter.
