A relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle. A one hour drive from airport in South Goa. Excellent buffet spread in breakfast lunch and dinner. never repeated their menu in our 3 night stay, the staff is excellent and looked after us so well. we had a 2 year son who loved going on the buggy rides and all the staff knew it and would gladly take us around even though our room was one of the closest to the reception. the pool area also superb. and the beach also neat and clean. super chilled out resort with great attention to detail and personalised service

Our first trip to Goa, well to India. If staying for a couple of nights or a confernce then fine but I found the buffet was definately not up to a 5* "International" Standard. We were told we would have inclusive breakfast at the Coffee Shop - this was The Restaurant Buffet. We asked where the Jamavar Indian Restaurant was - again it was part of The Restaurant Buffet. We knew that the Beach Restaurant was closed as it was Monsoon Season but how it was ever going to be ready to open in a month is beyond belief. This left The Restaurant Buffet and al a carte and the Riverside an Italian Restaurant where we had our romantic private dinner (and it was perfect) but there was no-one in the restaurant itself.

The Leela Goa is the 4th Leela property that we have stayed in. This stay was for almost 2 weeks with the whole family. Our stay was the end of the monsoon season and so was punctuated with rain showers – some longer than others! The Leela is situated right at the bottom of the Mobor peninsula in Southern Goa, and so is a little isolated – the more so given that we were out of season, and therefore many of the restaurants and beach shacks were not yet open. The occupancy in the hotel ranged from about 60-100% over our stay but at no point did it feel crowded, although the breakfast buffet was busy at the weekend.

The Leela is set in 70 odd acres of wonderfully landscaped grounds with many rooms overlooking the lagoon, and including a lovely looking small golf course. The hotel sprayed daily for mosquitoes and so despite the season and the weather we were not unduly bothered by them. Golf carts are on hand to transport the terminally lazy from their room to the bar, and back again.

We had a family room which overlooked the lagoon. In truth it is one room which has some doors which allow a day bed in the “conservatory” to be separated from the main body of the room. We felt that this was a good solution to the perennial problem of either sharing a single room with children, or having to pay the considerable expense of two rooms. As with all Leela properties the rooms were nicely decorated in a modern-classical style. Nice touches were the endless bottled water, fruit platter, and chocolates – all complimentary and also regularly replaced. Both the main part of the room and the ”childrens room” had flat screen TVs with a good selection of channels. A Nespresso machine or the like might have been nice, as the provided kettle and grotty old instant coffee were a bit low rent compared to the rest of the room.

The bathroom was equally well appointed with an enormous bath, and oversized separate shower. All the sanitary wear was of a high quality with the taps and shower from Hansgrohe. Water pressure was excellent and hot water endless. . Linens and towels were of high quality and replaced regularly. In short then the room was well thought out, very well appointed and was of a very high standard with lots of nice touches.

The Leela has a huge outdoor pool and even has its own waterfall! It is surrounded by beautiful tropical landscaping. Sadly it’s not deep enough to dive in but that’s nit-picking really. The beach is about a 5 minute walk through the Leela grounds which is no problem at all, and allows a good view of the golf course. During our stay the beachfront bar was undergoing renovation which was a bit of a shame. The beech is beautiful and very quiet. There are a small number of hawkers but we found all the ladies to be very good natured and interesting to talk to. We bought a few necklaces from them for a couple of pounds each, and chatted to them about their lives on several subsequent occasions. To our minds they added to rather than detracted from our stay. There was often a game of cricket on the beach in the evening which our son was invited to join in with and of course he loved it. A word of caution on the sea. There is a pretty vicious undercurrent so take care, although there are plenty of life guards with whistles who were vigilant in ensuring people did not go out too far.

We found the food in the Leela to be very very good. The variety at breakfast was enormous, with a wide choice of both Western, Indian, and Eastern choices, and the quality extremely high. Of particular note were the patisserie goods – croissants, pastries and the like - which were as good as you would expect in a top end hotel in Europe, and much better than anything else we have experienced in India. Likewise the Italian restaurant “Riverside” which served fabulous risotto, and very good pasta. Again this would not have been out of place anywhere in the World. The snacks from the pool bar were generally well executed too. A special mention is deserved for both Baptist and Christopher who went out of their way to try and feed the children something they would eat, and did so with genuine enthusiasm. Thank you to both of them. The service throughout was thoughtful, attentive, and all delivered with the unique Indian hospitality.

Gripes? The pool table has seen better days, and the Aqua bar in which it is situated is not up to the standards of the rest of the hotel (although a long way from bad). Charging for Wifi is a trick that a number of top end hotels seem to want to pull. In my view this is taking the p***. If I can buy a $2 cup of coffee, or a 99c burger and get free wifi then I should do so with my $500 hotel room! Finally nature has got a bit too much of a hold around the pool area. The crows are totally out of control and effectively mean that it is difficult / impossible to eat outside. I’m sure this is costing the Leela a significant amount of business and needs to be addressed.

As you may have gathered we felt that the Leela was an excellent hotel by any standards. We very much enjoyed our stay there, and would urge anyone to consider it very seriously not just in the context of other Goan hotels, but against other top brand hotels anywhere in the World.

I went there for my offsite, the resort is quite far from airport but if you are staying here for two days you do not have to go any where else, it provides amenities to enjoy your vacation. The best food I ever had in my life, and so as the beach, This place is located in south Goa and only preferable when you are in a mood to just relax and have fun.
