We booked to stay in Leela for 6 nights in November 2012 to celebrate 35th anniversary. From the moment we landed at the airport, we were received with dignity. All your staff including Mohit, Sachin,Sandhya , Narsingh and Dwivedi right upto the waiters have been looking after us so well that we were made to feel special.
The Reception staff, Concierge and Restaurant staff are in an ever ready mode to help with a smile.

The rooms are exceptionally clean and well decorated. Luxurious bathrooms are a pleasure and the ambience exudes from AM to PM.

It is a haven of tranquility with the best sandy beach you could ever desire. Even the mosquitoes have been tamed by fumigation. The spa is a very special part of the Hotel complex as is the 12 hole par 3 golf
course. Both are so enjoyable and relaxing adding a further flavour to the holiday.

On the anniversary day we were surprised by a handcrafted cake and champagne with compliments of
the Hotel. We have felt pampered and literally spoilt.

Overall our stay was good, but for the price tag it was not a good value. The lobby is really superb - great attention to detail, very nice furniture, finishings, etc., great to lounge in. The interior of the room was also very nice, clean modern, comfortable bed/pillows and nice lounge room. If you have kids, the kids play room is nice and the staff is very good/friendly.
After that, it goes mostly average...

There are no rooms close to the beach or with a beach view. All the rooms are a good walk from the beach/ocean, some rooms are a really far walk from the ocean.

The pool is average to below average. Sometimes it was not clean (bird poop in the pool) and the water was extremely cold (colder than the ocean) - no heat. No jacuzzi/hot tub.

The beach was nice, as far as India goes. The guards do a good job keeping the local vendors and gawkers off the beach. The sand is tan colored and you'll spot the occaisional plastic bottle, cigarette butt, etc. The water is nice and warm and pretty clean.

Good gym and good equipment. The spa was ok - treatments are really good, but the space is bad (closed rooms - no windows).

The food was hit or miss, but mostly good. We ate the buffet most of the time, because the menu wasn't great. The have a very good variety of food. The occaision dish was really great, but in 4 days (12 meals) we had mabye 3 meals that were impressive, rest were average or good.

Overall the service is not good, but a few people surprised us occaisionally. As an example, we told the woman who checked us in that it was our daughters first birthday and we were celebrating for her - no cake, no happy birthday, nothing. Nobody told us that they have cribs available - we found out they do on our last day by another guest. The waiting staff at the restaurant were extremely slow and messed up orders several times. However, there were a few people who really went out of their way to cook our baby special food and treated us very well. Unfortunately that was the exception.

The hotel is good for getting away to relax, but don't have high expectations for food and service. Very family oriented, not a great honeymoon hotel. Not a good value, but not sure how the other hotels in Goa compare...

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the lobby.

My wife and I spend a four day break at The Leela to celebrate my birthday. This was our first trip to Goa. The hotel and service exceeded our expectations. From the time we arrived, the hotel staff was excellent with a safe drive from the airport to the resort. We had an early arrival, after a night flight, and the hotel checked us into our room without any issues of arriving before check-in time. The room was fantastic with a lagoon view. The birds and wildlife (water snakes, crabs and fish) in the lagoon were great to watch. The grounds of the resort are beautifully landscaped. We took a free walking tour of the grounds with the head botanist. He (Mario) was very welcoming and informative of the plants growing on the 75 acres. The beach, pool and par three golf course were all clean and well kept. I read some past reviews of people complaining about insects, but the Leela sprayed at dusk and we never experience any mosquito problems. The restaurants of the resort were also high quality. We ate breakfast each day at "The Restaurant" where they had a very abundant buffet. We had dinner one night at the Indian restaurant and another night at the Italian and they were both excellent. Good selection, top quality and excellent service made both of these restaurants top notch. On my actual birthday, the hotel surprised us with a complimentary bottle of champagne and cake in our room. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. We would definitely come back to the Leela to rest and relax.

Room Tip: If your don't want to walk far, get rooms closer to the lobby and beach. The rooms on the far e...

We chose Goa to celebrate our first anniversary and looking for the best property in Goa. Confused between Taj Exotica and Leela. Going by the aerial view snap on the website and the incomparable location, we finally chose Leela and I am glad to say our overall experience at Leela was awesome!
Some hard facts first - The website photo of aerial snap is either quite old or photoshopped to make the lagoons and river cleaner than they actually are. Although the resort and the greenery is quite well maintained, at first look, the lagoons and river would look shabby and stinky. The rooms also look quite pale and old from outside. I was glad we chose Conservatory Premiere room which comes with closed area with a Daybed instead of balcony overlooking the lagoons. I am afraid (although not sure) those balconies won't be of any use due to stinking lagoons and mosquitoes.
But once you enter your room, you know how luxury can be realized. The rooms have spanking new interiors and absolutely impeccable. The entire resort it so huge and self-contained that you won't feel the need to go outside the resort for anything.
The private beach has clean water (compared to North Goa) and is relatively shallow and safe. The pool is quite big but only 4ft deep at max. Also quite a long walk from beach - especially in hot sunny times.
The restaurants serve awesome food. The beach and riverside restaurants have locations with great views. The breakfast buffet spread probably has every single possible variety to offer.
The best part of Leela is the staff and service. Staff here is quite friendly and always ready to help you in every possible way (some junior staff may seem over-friendly at times). But they would try their best to make your stay at resort most special and unforgettable for sure.
Special mention to Ameesha, Wasi and all staff at beach restaurant to make our anniversary dinner & celebration very very special. I arranged a couple of surprises for my wife with their help and we had an amazing evening. "An unforgettable experience" as my wife says.. :)
Overall, I would say Leela scores everything in the service and location.

Room Tip: Conservatory Premiere room comes with a daybed area and quite spacious. Rooms nearer to main lobby h...

An hour from the airport ,but a fantastic welcome from The staff at the Leela. Well appointed spacious rooms, beautiful beach-guide said best in South Goa, superb restaurants, stunning gardens and staff who couldn't do enough for you. Food was more expensive than the local restaurants but worth it. If I returned to Goa ,it would definitely be to The Leela. It was wonderful in every way

We really enjoyed our stay at the Leela. We stayed for 5 nights and if you just want pure relaxation- this place is perfect. The rooms are private and very comfortable- with great bathrooms that have powerful hot showers and a massive bath. The beach is very quiet and has plently of sunbeds. The beach service is also very good. THere are numerous beach shacks within walking distance. The pool area is just ok though. And i would say this hotel doesn't have much of an indian twist- for example at the beach bbq one evening they had a non-english man singing english songs- it sounded like something from Pete Kay... why they didn't just have Indian music. Overall a great hotel though

It was nice to be picked up in the BMW but this did take some arranging. We arrived at the Leela after a fantastic stay at another Hotel so our expectations were high. Check-in was efficient by Wasi and prompt without fuss, we were having a drink in the bar within 30 minutes. Remember to become a Privilege member so you get free wi-Fi on 2 devices a tip we picked up from a historic review, thank you!

In the daylight, the property is obviously a little older (21 years old) but they really make the effort to upkeep it to the standard it once was. It is based on a number of lagoons which bring some excellent wildlife, not all of it appreciated, we stayed in a conservatory room which is definitely for the mosquito conscious but even considering the room was sealed, we still had problems. The staff were keen to assist and temporarily addressed the problem but it took some real 'mossie management' throughout our week stay.

We have tried to be fair with our rating as some aspects of the service were excellent, others less so, the cappuccinos took an age to come on a morning after eating breakfast and the service was slower than what we had experienced generally. However on the flip side the bar staff, Jordon, Savio and Gilbert were brilliant even when busy hence the special mention.

The beach is beautiful and the layout didn't feel cramped. We are not 'sand' lovers however we spent every afternoon there as it was so blissful.

Use the free bikes and find the botanical garden, 100's of orchids.

We departed early in the morning and Concierge had arranged a breakfast box which was a lovely touch.

Great gym, didn't use the spa as find mosquitoes can be attracted to the odour of the oils used.

In case anyone reading suffers from Mosquitoes bites, Vitamin B really helps repel them.
