My wife and I stayed at Leela in the third week of October this year. We were celebrating our anniversary :-)

Leela has a very impressive Reception and Lobby. Guests are served fresh coconut water upon arrival. It is nestled between a river and the sea. If you walk towards the south on the beach (a little over 1 km), you can reach the point where the river meets the sea. Beautiful place for some sunset photography.

Now a quick look at the good and the bad (no ugly):

Good:

1) Very well appointed rooms and bathrooms. We had booked a conservatory premier room, which has an extra sitting area with a TV.
2) Excellent breakfast selection, with good number of options to choose from. We used to be so full with the breakfast that never felt like having lunch.
3) Efficient service during breakfast and by the beach.
4) Quick and efficient room service as well as house keeping. I kept a small note for extra sugar sachets for the house keeping and they left us plenty :-)
5) In case you get bored with the resort food, there is Fisherman's Wharf right outside. Another restaurant called Betty's Place is close by, but was not open when we visited.
6) Smiling staff members who never miss an oppurtunity to greet you.
7) When we returned to our room on our anniversary, we were surprised to find a cake and a bottle of wine in our room. These small gestures actually make you want to come back again and again. Special thanks to Mona who remembered it when we had mentioned the purpose of our visit during check-in.

Bad:

1) Trash on the beach, which is not exactly the hotel's fault. The stretch right in front of the resort is clean, but if you go towards north, it does get a bit filthy.
2) The lawns and the grounds are not very well manicured, as the grass is overgrown at a number of places.
3) Didn't like the food preparation at the Riverside restaurant and the service was not at par with the others.
4) Small swimming pool.

Over all, we loved the place and the service is exactly what you expect from a 5 star property. We will definitely return.

After much research we chose The Leela and I am so glad we did.
Our checking was very smooth and prompt and we were escorted to our room which was a conservatory room, with lovely views over the Lagoon. The rooms are very spacious with his and hers sinks and a lovely large bathroom. The rooms have 2 big flat screen tv s and a lovely day bed. Couldn't t fault the room although if we ever stayed again I would want a full balcony as these rooms just have a patio door but you can't step out.
The grounds are lovely and it has a golf course, as well as beautiful gardens and water features, wildlife and flowers.
The pool is lovely although a jacuzzi would have been a nice addition. The beach is part private and although local ladies try and get your attention it's not to over powering and they do give up if you ignore them. There's a flag system for if you need service or would just prefer peace and quiet. The grounds are large although as they are beautiful so we didn t mind a stroll, if you prefer there are buggy s that will pick you up and drop you around the hotel.
Breakfast was plentiful and consisted of 4 rooms , bread, cereal, cheese, hot sausages, curry, cakes , fruit. I think they cater for everyone's taste and the staff/ service was impeccable.
The hotel doesn't offer free wifi however if you joined the privilege club you can qualify for free wifi on upto 2 devices so be sure to ask about this.
We didn't have dinner in the hotel as we enjoyed the Fishermans Wharf ( a 2 min walk from the hotel) so much we went back every night! Also check out the local shop Brysons Wine Store the guy -Isidoro Dias mob 09822154539 is great and as well as owning the shop he is a taxi/ tour guide and he will give you a good price to get to Old Goa to see the Bom Jesus which is a world heritage site and you can wash elephants on the way back - amazing experience £9 each. Goa is a great place and the Leela is the best place to stay! Have a fab time - we did :)

Last year we were in the same south goa region and after having experienced great taj hospitality at taj exotica. We were bowled over by taj for their service and hospitality.
This year we wanted to try out leela, as we read such good reviews of the Leela and were excited to stay there and we decided to book ourselves a good 3 day 4 nights at leela.
Me and my wife arrive with our 2 (kids) daughters at leela very early in the morning of 24th, the property is huge (approx 70 acres) and a large part of it is open and green with lots of Lagoons, the vast expanse of the gardens is a wonderful sight, The Entrance lobby and guest lounge looks so relaxed, soothing, beautiful and serene.
Arrival lobby and the lounge the interiors and pillars resemble that of south Indian temples, very much a leela theme, which you will find in most of their properties across india. The guest service executive welcomes us, but not really a very pleasant and warm welcome though, Welcome drink was missing... this probably could be due to our arrival very early in the morning when the executive had his shift change, he quickly helps us complete our check in process, and we are accommodated with a early check-in as per our special request, thanks for fulfilling our request, we had booked ourselves in a conservatory Premiere room, the room is big and decor is elegant and first class, truly 5 star.
Bathrooms were spacious and water pressure was very good.
Overall experience was great except that service from the management and staff was not very professional and did not meet our expectations. Needless to say when at the time of check-in I had desired to upgrade myself to higher category room if available, I was told that guest services team in the morning shift would revert back to me with possibilities, however nobody bothered to check with me for the same.
Secondly it gave us a feeling that kids are not very welcome at Leela, unlike at taj exotica, right before we could arrive at taj we were asked about our preferences and kids preferences and in rooms always we would find this little surprises for kids like chocolates, candies & cookies, every time there was room make over, there would be fresh flowers in the room and funny characters made out of towels on the bed. These small things make a lot of difference.
Housekeeping took more time to address the Make My room service, probably because the hotel was experiencing full house.
Our bathroom had some bad ventilation, due to which toilets were stinking. However this was promptly fixed, after we complained to the housekeeping staff.
Most of the service staff in the dining area were either trainees or either there was lack of co-ordination amongst themselves, maybe the staff was under lot of pressure due to full house as hotel was sold out.
In room dining service was equally bad, with lack of co-ordination, our kids desired to have some ice creams and requested for a specific flavor from the menu, we were promptly told it was not available, since I was at the restaurant just a few minutes earlier and I had noticed the flavors that were available at the ice cream / dessert station, which I shared with in room dining staff on the intercom, it was then I noticed the staff getting into an argument with his colleague for not being informed correctly while he held my call, I could see a lack of co-ordination amongst the staff.
Few of senior staff members seemed to be truly honest and very nice, Nityanand was one such person whom we came across was very honest and seemed to strike a right cord with guests. Maybe he was a senior person amongst the staff.
Rajeshekar another staff at the egg counter was very hard working, seemed to be coping well with pressure while taking hordes of egg orders from somewhat unruly guests who tend to keep jumping queues and demand their requests be given first preference.
Service Staff at the pool bar are getting complacent, comfortable and don’t care a damn for guests, even while it was still 7:25 PM, 5 minutes before the bar closure at the pool, the service staff bluntly turned down the request by saying that the bar was closed and he could not fix the drink, however my request was fulfilled only when I made him realize that there was still 5 minutes, and if he wished to service the hotel guests he could do so by getting the drink from another bar, which he finally obliged and he fixed the drink from the same pool bar where he earlier claimed he had no resources to prepare the drink.
The Beach is very nice and fairly empty, well maintained and manned by professional security guards to keep away the unwanted hawkers and stray dogs of the beach.
Small suggestion, which I had shared with the Leela Beach Security supervisor while I was there at the beach between 1 and 2 PM, to provide an umbrella to the gun totting security staff who was seen fully clothed in his uniform standing lone on the beach sands far away from the decking area right under the harsh sun.
While Leela was doing an excellent job of securing and manning the beach to keep away hawkers and dogs away, to make the place very safe for its guests, it was ignoring the basic principles of humanity to ensure the staff or the outsourced staff needs to treated with care.
I would not have mentioned this above statement of mine if the supervisor had taken prompt action even after being told.
Buggy service too slow and sometimes it was ignored completely (maybe again it was due to full house).

Riverside Restaurant was not very appealing to us, since the Alfresco outside dining area facing the river side was closed for renovation.

The Beach restaurant " Susegado” was closed and due to open only after nov 1st due to license issues.

Summing it all up, The Leela Goa team has to pull up their socks up in terms of meeting guest requests and ensuring that they are pampered to the extent that it promises!

Room Tip: Go for higher category of rooms or either club suites, to ensure you get good service from staff and management !!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Leela, Goa. I went during the monsoon season so it was relatively quiet, but just what I was looking for.

The room, with a great terrace overlooking the lagoon, was newly renovated. There was a good choice of places to eat, although the restaurant on the beach was closed for the season.

I'd love to stay here again the next time I'm in the area.
