Malshej is a great location. Specially during monsoon. Covered with clouds and rains. Don't forget to take your raincoat as umbrella will be a waste is gusty winds. MDTC holel however is very poorly maintained. Rooms with soggy walls, dirty and torn linen. Outside floor was slippery due to mould and dirt and we witnessed a guest slipping and falling badly. Absolute turn-off! There is a restaurant in the hotel which is moderately priced but again the ambience and cleanness is very average. Only good thing about the hotel was they we gave a special request of ground floor room for our parents and we got it.

Pros 1. Location - on top of the hill awesome weather
2. Reception- quick and ready to help
3. Privacy
Cons 1. Poor maintenance (water seepage in room)
2. Lack of cleanliness in surroundings
3. stray dogs
4. Food quality below average
Try getting valley view rooms. They give good privacy and views of mountains and waterfalls. Morning walk in surroundings is a total delight inspite of stinking garbage and stray dogs in few areas.

MTDC resorts at Malshej is in a lot many ways under utilized, not from a capacity perspective, but from an offering perspective. The location of this resort (like most other) is stunning. You are very close to the ghats and then you can enjoy heavenly walk (fog all around) every now and then.
Rooms - I would suggest Valley view rooms are best as they give you a direct view of the Valley, come with small balcony and you can enjoy the view and sitout (if not raining). Build and internals wish definitely a lot more desired, but if you can ignore those bits for the location and nature, you are sure to love it.

Food, well this department again don't keep fancy expectations. The available food tastes good, but don't raise your expectations high up on this department.

Resort has ample parking and proximity to Malshej Ghat is the best thing, a very good valley view available as well

Room Tip: Prefer Valley view rooms and don't keep very high expectations

The road from Panvel to Malsjej Ghat is good except for few bad patches. All the way it is very scenic especially when you hit the greenery. During rainy season there are plenty of small and high water falls. Lot of precautions are taken for the tourists from accidents. But not for the ones who are careless & reckless, can not help those. It is mind blowing to see single massive rocks rising high in the sky. The spectacular view below from the top, etches in your mind for a long time to come. I immensely enjoyed. There are many eateries on the way, who make very tasty snacks.

So this is my second review of this place, during another season. The first visit was in the winters- during November. This visit was during the monsoons- in the month of July.
There is a quite a bit of difference between the 2 experiences. Stayed in the same, valley view AC cottage during both the stays.
The main difference being- because of the heavy rains- during the monsoons, MTDC bolts and shuts all the windows of all the rooms! So even if you book the valley view rooms, you cannot venture out into the balcony!
Also, there is a lot of water leakage into the rooms! Through the window gaps, in fact even the walls are wet!
Still no room service available, and the restaurant shut off at 10 pm. Moss everywhere, so be careful of slipping and falling.
All said and done, simply check out the pics to see what the atmosphere is here! Its absolutely unbeatable!
I still insist on this, the location of this place beats every other flaw this place can throw your way!
So bag your own food if you wish to, book one of the cheaper rooms and don't spend 4000rs on the valley view ones, but come stay here during the monsoons! Its simply amazing!!!!
One can literally not see 10 meters ahead! Its like living in the clouds! The fog seeps in everywhere! The restaurant, the rooms every place possible!
Be prepared for the rains! and the experience! But surely come prepared if what I would suggest!
