“Amazing place for family holidays”
Reviewed August 12, 2011

Location: about an hour by car from Corfu airport. Quietest place in Arillas, 10 min walk from two very noisy bars. Beach is 10 meters from the hotel.
Sea: shallow quite far, amazing island nearby accessible by pedal boats- lots of interesting things for snorkeling, nice to swim.
Food: traditional Greek and European, all very tasty. Breakfast ok- eggs, bacon, muesli, youghurt, basic fruits.
Staff: very good and friendly, always ready to help or recommend other places/restaurants to visit.
Room: relatively spacious, with small kitchen, all rooms with a balcony, facing sea. All rooms have a/c, which was actively in use given a lot of mosquitos and virtually no possibility to sleep with open windows. Some problems with cleaning, like sand from the beach not cleaned every day from the floor, bathroom should be cleaned more thoroughly. Not cr are ok with putting towels on the floor and stepping on them.
It is better to have a rented car if you are staying long to see nearby villages and travel around the island.

We met the amazing greek hospitality at the entrance to the hotel as the owner was waiting for us at 11pm due to our late flight arrival-ready to take our bags, and being hungry he still insisted he would make us something to eat being now midnight!!! Nothing was too big or small task for the owners-stay couldnt of been better. Great value accommodation with big room and balcony, kitchenette, comfy beds and cleaned spotlessly every day. They made AMAZING mojitos, and food was excellent value with filling breakfast included every day. Great location, with a sunset bar included having tapas and cocktails as sun went down. Can't think of any negatives to be honest, JUST LOVED IT AND RECCOMEND IT!!

Room Tip: All rooms front facing to sea....I think :p

It takes about an hour in a taxi to get to the hotel from the airport. The hotel is right on the beach, across a small road whose only traffic was for access. Our room was on the second floor but there's a lift for the lazy, like us. The room itself was comfortable with plenty of hanging space and a fantastic shower, very powerful and always warm. There's a balcony overlooking the bay, the beach and the sunsets, perfect for sitting with a pre-dinner drink, though you could still get a good view from the bar, especially from the upper level.
Breakfast was easily the best we've had in Greece, choice of hot and cold food, with loads of fruit, and the home-made strawberry jam and marmalade were delicious. You could also get drinks and snacks from the bar at any time of the day.
The hotel has an open-air restaurant which was easily the best we tried in Arillas, both for the food and the service. Apart from the standard menu, there were two specials every night, so you don't get bored eating there quite often.
The staff must be about the friendliest, most helpful that I've come across. Every request was met with a smile and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
Arillas is a quiet resort, with half a dozen or so tavernas on the beach and two or three more on the main street, including a couple of bars that seemed likely to be livelier. My only gripe was that the food in the other tavernas we tried was only ok, not as good as the Horizon and not as good as other places in Greece we've been to.

After a real "odyssea" with Air Berlin ( we could not land on scheduled day because of bad weather in Corfou and had to fly instead to Brindisi to spend the night there) , we finally arrived the next day on the beautiful island of Corfou. We had rented a car which was waiting for us ( with explore car-hire from Ag.Stefanos ) and arrived at Arillas after a one hour drive. The sun was shining and we found the hotel very easily. What a superb place !
Everything was like the description we had read before on their website. The owner Marinos and his sister Maria as well as the stuff are very helpful and discreet. The room is clean and the view from the balcony is overwhelming , especially after 18 h 30 when the sun goes down over the Ionian sea. Then you can go down to the lounge and enjoy a drink served by very gentle people. The breakfast hours as well as lunch and dinner are excellent for holidays ( eg breakfast from 9 to 11 h 30 ) and the selection was good.
The area is very calm, the only "noise" comes from the waves of the sea in front of the hotel. We decided to sleep with the window half open and it is the best cradle you can imagine.
Arillas area is good for excursions in the surroundings like Agios Giorgios beach, the small village of Alfionas and of course the Canal d'amour. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants (tavernas) in Arillas and the nearby villages.
If you travel in autumn, don't forget to bring a sweater if you want to enjoy your evening meal outside because after sundown a certain freshness falls on you.
Also bring some anti-moskito spray...
We are 100 % sure that we will return to Horizon hotel because our stay was fantastic and exactly what we were looking for. It met all our expectations.
Bravo Marinos, Maria and the stuff

The Horizon is a brilliant example of a really friendly Greek family hotel. There is no stale chain hotel experience here. It is right on the beach, has a lovely restaurant and the best welcome you could imagine. Arillas is a quiet family resort with a nice beach, a few tavernas and a couple of bars that can very occassionally get lively. If you want to club all night, then this isn't for you. If you want to stay in a lovely place and engage with the locals, then I don't think that you will regret it. I for one keep going back.

Horizon Hotel is located right by the beach. All rooms are facing the sea and the stunning sunsets. Family run with a very friendly atmosphere, outdoor restaurant and bar. Pool.
Suitable for all kinds of visitors: singles, couples, families with children (pool-area for them) and elderly (lift). Nice and quiet, occanitionally with Greek Dancing arrangements.
Many visitors return year after year.

Our two day stay at the Horizon was absolutely superb. My partner and I travelled the Ionian and Cyclades around a wedding we were attending in Athens staying only a couple of days at each hotel with rates averaging between 60 AUD and 250 AUD per night and throughout our travels the Horizon stood out as one of the best whilst being suprisingly cheap. The room was large and had a separate sitting area allowing space to read a book or place your bags. There was also a kitchenette which was well equipt although we only used it to prepare fruit platters to eat whilst taking in the beautiful sunsets from our private balcony. The hotel has a lovely pool and is located with the beach directly over the road which is great to cool off after a day of exploring Corfu and the bar poolside serves great cocktails with a new special dreamt up every day. The staff were all very friendly and accomodating. Overall everything was very clean, comfortable and relaxing. While staying in Arillas I would highly recommend heading next door to Kostas on the beach for fabulous food from a friendly family run restaurant.
