My husband and I live on Crete in the Apokoronas area just east of Chania. We love Greek food but are always looking for something a little different. We have found that difference at the Aeraki Restaurant. It is situated in the little village of Almyrida right on the beach with beautiful views of the bay and the Aegean. We are always greeted warmly by Nikos, the owner. The menu offers some traditional foods; however, most dishes are very creative – such as salads (avocado, green apple, walnuts and blue cheese - another is lettuce, bacon, strawberries, ricotta cheese in a parmesan basket – just to name two!); starters (creamed mushrooms with garlic or the mussels mariner with onion and white wine with many more options). The main dishes cover pasta, paella, grilled meats, and more specialty dishes. Everything is wonderful on the menu but they also have the daily specials such as: Chicken Caponata, Baby Tuna Souvlaki or Local Fresh Lobster pasta for two. The prices are reasonable compared to other local restaurants that do not have this kind of diversity. A nice wine list rounds out a delicious experience. We chose Aeraki for our Easter dinner and of course it was fantastic (roasted lamb on the spit). We will continue to enjoy this fine establishment!
