After reading the reviews of diving in Crete, I was not jazzed to do it. So armed with our 6 month old, I told my husband he could go but I would just stay with our little one. We found Omega Divers just by wandering around and we are so happy we did. Aside from the sweet, helpful staff - even offering to babysit so my husband and I could dive together - the cave dive was a great experience! After my husbands dive, he insisted that I go and he stay with our daughter "really, babe the water is too cold for me" (was my 2nd excuse) Well, lucky for me my husband is thoughtful and felt I needed some time alone after being pretty much non-stop with our new little one, so he convinced me.
Now, I want to tell you that we are not certified for cave diving and to all of you who are, I would normally not recommend caving for those who are not certified as I do understand that caves can be very dangerous for those without the proper training and experience to handle them; but, this is a cave that can only get to underwater but you can surface and stand up in once inside! Beautiful stalagmites and stalactites, fossils, fresh air and an unforgettable experience. And even sitting in the boat for our surface interval was an experience, enjoying the company of fellow divers, telling stories and watching the goats wander around the cliffs that surrounded us! I definitely would recommend Omega Divers and the Elephant Caves to all who are on their way to Krete! Yes, even experienced cavers could enjoy the experience of seeing elephant bones and molars, a stalagmite that looks like a mother with baby, rocks flows that look like caramel just to name a few of the cool things we saw - beautiful! Oh and they do provide water but you might want to bring a snack or eat before you leave.
