Certificate of Excellence

We stayed in Almyrida Studios. When we arrived, we were surprised that reality looks different from what we saw on the website: it is much more simple. After some time we adapted of course, and found positive moments, but yet there were more things to improve,
Positive:
- nice sea view: you can hear the sea, sit on the balcony...
- rooms are very clean, cleaning ladies are polite and every time were creating some compositions from towels;
- we had dinner as well in our package, all food was different every time and cooked nicely;
- studios has much better location them Almyrida Beach and Residence as situated on the beach and there are no cars going in and out;
- sea itself is very nice there.
Negative:
- fridge in our room made too much noise, we could barely sleep;
- all the time breakfast was completely the same, by the end of our stay we could barely see the same food,
- room consisted from 2 parts-sleeping area and sitting area- there was not enough day light in the sleeping area, had to turn the light on even in the middle of the day;
- pay attention that sun beds and umbrellas on the beach are paid, but hotel staff doesn't advise about it proactively;
- only 1 type of seafood served per dinner, which is strange for the seaside....;
- in the restaurant after you finish one meal and used your fork and knife, they prefer not to give you a clean one, but to remove your used ones and place them on the tissue and take the plate;
- of course, tv is not the most important thing for the beach holidays, but here they had one 2 channels: euro news and tv monde.
- in the morning we could hear everybody, who was passing by our room, sometimes it was very annoying.

Room Tip: Choose the room at the end of corridor and not on the last floor.

We visited the Almyrida Beach Hotel in May this year where we were meeting up with friends who live just outside the village of Almyrida. We needed a small hotel for our base as we had hired a car to visit as much of the area as possible.

The Hotel Staff

This hotel was superb, the staff where so pleasant and helpful right from the minute we arrived early in the morning at 2-30am! All the staff at the hotel, the Managers, the ladies at Reception, the Waiters and Waitresses and the Cleaners were so very friendly always willing to help and assist you. They really made the holiday and were great throughout our stay.

Accommodation

The rooms were very nice and clean and the bedclothes changed very often. The cleaners always made a special pattern with our towels which we thought was a lovely thing to do. The room had a fridge and a cooker but we did need to switch off the fridge at night as it was a little noisy for light sleepers like us. There was a safe in the wardrobe which we had to pay an additional charge for but was not too expensive. (21 Euros for 10 nights) There was a nice balcony and ours looked out over the pool out to the sea which was excellent. The air conditioning worked very well also.

The Food

Breakfast was very pleasant and most days we dined outside in the Almyrida Residence Hotel just across the street, which was no trouble at all. The food was very nice with plenty of choices of cereals, fruits, yogurt, breads, juices and the normal grilled or fried fair taken buffet style. Our evening meals were taken in our hotel which was a lot nicer than the Residence Hotel and the food choices were again varied with soup, salads, breads, Greek & Mediterranean main courses and desserts, again buffet style. The food was always a very good standard and we enjoyed all the meals that we had there. Our friends who lived in Kokkino Horio dined with us one night and they were very delighted with the quality of the menu.

Almyrida Area

It is a most delightful village still retaining its Cretan charm and situated right on a very safe beach in a beautiful bay with local tavernas, restaurants and small shops along the front. If you go there you must visit the Caravan at the end of the beach for lunch or a drink. We drove to many beautiful places during our stay and amazed how beautiful the area was. Its beaches were quiet, no parking charges, bars on the beach with very friendly and generous owners, the views are breathtaking around Souda Bay and from Kokkino Horio and village of Plaka has some great restaurants.

Altogether a wonderful place to holiday and we will definitely be returning to this hotel and this beautiful island.

We've just come back from an 11 night stay at Almyrida beach and we loved it! Very relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff & really like the fact that you get the choice off the other hotels too! The hotel being bang on the beach is a real plus! Very clean, well presented hotel, everything that you'd expect from a four star. If it's relaxation you require then this hotel & village is the place for you :) :) Oh and hire a scooter top tip!!

My husband and I have just returned from the Amyrida Studios and have had a wonderful time. The studios are situated right on the sea front. We stayed half board, breakfasted in the Almyrida Residence and dined in the Almyrida Beach Hotel. As a complex these hotels and studios have everything you could want. We stayed in the studios because we like to be a little independent. The studios have its own reception, pool and bar and the Receptionists are lovely and very helpful. The cleaning staff add their own touch to making a memorable holiday with the variety of ways they can fold towels! It was my birthday and they even wrote Happy Birthday on a bar of soap! Made us smile a lot. The resort itself is quite small but with many eating places on the sea front. Not too much in the way of loud night life but that's the way we like it! We hired a car and explored. We had a great holiday. This side of the Island is how Greece used to be many, many years ago.

Room Tip: Second floor, sea front would be the best.

Just returned from one glorious, sun drenched week in Almyrida. The Almyrida Beach Hotel, for the price paid (on a bed and breakfast basis), the room, the cleanliness, the facilities and the staff could not be faulted. We stayed in one of the sea view rooms with balcony; roomy enough for two, large comfortable double bed, fresh towels and linen daily, however you do need to hire beach towels. Staff were very accommodating and would go out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed to enjoy your stay. The fact that you had use of all the facilities in the sister hotel 'Residence', made the whole package even better value for money, I would recommend anyone to try the wonderful rooftop restaurant; the pool, the view and the food were amazing and not expensive. On a personal note I would like to particularly thank two staff members, Litzi and Tonia, unbelievable service from both. Needless to say, we will be returning before long.

A second visit to the Almyrida Beach Hotel after a four year absence. It's still wonderful. I can't think of any hotel I've ever stayed in that had such a consistently warm, welcoming and courteous staff who can't do enough for their guests. The hotel is spotless and very attractive. The pool area is a joy in daytime and during the evening and for us being right opposite the beach is the biggest plus of all. (There are other pools in sister hotels nearby which we didn't use but which are also attractive.)

Our room was simple but very comfortable and with a lovely seaview. A great breakfast and if you want to economise, half-board is an excellent option. The dinners are not cordon bleu but very varied (huge choice) and enjoyable. If you want gourmet meals in the evening, half board isn't for you but we always enjoyed the wide variety very much (especially dessert!). My only slight criticisms (very small) are that the chef would benefit from a course in soup-making - though they did improve day by day - and also, if you like tea English-style, you really need to take your own teabags for breakfast! The choice of herbal tea is fine but I don't know what the tea manufacturers are thinking of regarding the "black tea" bags that are offered - very little in them and very weak. Not worth the packaging they come in. So pack your PG Tips or whatever your favourite is, and go to this wonderful hotel.

Not a lot to do in the village but if you want sun, sea, choice of pools and beaches with marvellous & safe swimming, a good rest, and some interesting places to visit (Chania and Rethymno by bus are easy and great days out), I recommend this place very highly. I know I will be drawn back time and time again - and I have never been one to return to the same spot, let alone the same hotel so this is high praise indeed.

Room Tip: I love room 216 (or those either side, above and below would probably be as good) because of the vie...

We stayed at the Almyrida Studios as a family - ages from 14 to 84! Everyone came home having had one of the best holidays ever. We were a fairly large party with differing abilities and needs. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Nothing was ever a problem. The ground floor studio didn't have the same facilities as those we had on the first floor (all with fantastic views of the beach and sea) so we shared around the available kitchen utensils. We kept apologising for the chaos we caused, and the staff always smiled, and said "no problem". And it never was. The ground floor studio doesn't have a kitchenette but the hotel were happy to supply a kettle (as they did for our other rooms). The major decisions of the day were hotel pool? Beach opposite hotel? or larger public sandy beach? By the evening - which delicious restaurant to visit? We found that the fish restaurant had a really excellent menu, and the cheaper more 'cafe' like one near by wasn't so good (or cheap as it turned out). But we stayed 7 nights and only had one ordinary meal - all the others were superb. And with Greek generosity, the often gave you a free starter, and a free desert (often ice cream or a piece of cake). when we stay next time we will try out the windsurfing and the tourist 'train' which looks fun. There is a lift, so anyone with a mobility problem can use the floors above, which all appear to have the same amazing view. Because the hotel is at the end of the town, its very private. 4 yards away is the town hub-bub if that's what you want. We are planning our return.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have a sea view. The ground floor studios are perfect for people with mobility iss...
