“**BEST HOTEL in Diani by a mile & largest, most spectacular beach in the area**”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

Having travelled to many 5 star hotels around the world and being a fussy customer, I am not easily impressed, but this place is something special. We had a tear in our eyes as we said goodbye! Living in London, we are always on the go, so to come away with the rest and relaxation that we got at this place is priceless!!
If you are looking for sun, sea, food, relaxation, you dont need to look anywhere else!!

Reasons to book this hotel above others:
- The hotel has a large area around the pool and beach so you will always get a lovely sun lounger (super comfy like beds)
- Best most specitacular large beach in the area - like a picture postcard with beautiful palm trees, warm water and activities
- Fantastic large pool (warm) with pool bar
- Fabulous restaurants with a large selection of foods to try - if you have a special request, just ask and you will receive (will make special meals for kids/babies too)
- The warmest, friendliest staff you could find
- Great hotel rooms with aircon
- FANTASTIC SPA - we were in there every other day (and good prices)
- The best new years dinner on the beach we have ever had (during the week they do a dinner on the beach as well, which is just as spectacular so you wont miss out)
- Visible hotel manager & deputy hotel manager who will respond immediately if you have any complaints/comments
- Great casino/night club/evening bars
- Safe area around the hotel with lovely restaurants if you want to eat out
- Kids club
- TOTALLY Ideal for honeymooners as well, there is an adult only pool in its own area near the spa so you can have peace and quiet if you want.
- They will do special romantic dinners on the beach if you wish (and this is a spectacular beach)
- Entertainment every evening
- Policed beach
- We met many repeat customers who say they go every year, they said the hotel has low staff turnover, so they see the same faces every time they go which is fab!
- Its so HOT THERE!!!

THANKS to each and every one of the staff for looking after us. And of course Roberto, the hotel manager, for running such a tight ship and making our trip so special. We are already talking about coming back soon!

Tips:
1) We took malarone which was a great anti malarial with no side effects
2) Take a mini first aid kit with you containing nurofen etc as I found the heat gave me a few headaches (but did NOT put me off)
3) If you have any ideas to make your stay more special, just ask the management, they will try anything to make your stay extra ordinary
4) Get the beach boys to take you on a little boat to the sand islands - stunning

Room Tip: Upgrade to a junior suite We had good standard rooms near to the pool which we thought was fantast...

We arrived on the 29 of December and we have had the most wonderful holiday ever thanks to Roberto the GM and Elizabeth his number 2.
The staff are all outstanding and greet you and stop to chat all day and make sure you are happy and feel special .it seems unkind to mention some over others but some do stand out ,on reception Andrew ,Mary and Peter.
In the resort ,Susans both of them ,Humphrey, and Patrick,Gladys the pancake queen and our room staff ,
New Years Eve was fabulous on the beach with great cabaret and music and amazing food .we falt sad to leave at the end of our stay .

Room Tip: Ask for sea facing to enjoy the view of the beach and reef

My wife and I stayed here in December 2011 and had a very enjoyable trip. Agreed the hotel is not a 4 or 5 star - probably a high 3 star. However, the location and especially the staff more than make up for this. So the rooms need a makeover and touching up on sun beds and umbrellas are needed - but they really are only minor things.
The staff go out of there way for you and every single one of them were so friendly. The beach location is fantastic and the security guards do a fantastic job keeping the beach sellers away from the hotel. The sellers do try and hassle if you go down to the sea (public part so Security cannot control) - however our tip is to learn a little of the local language (Swahili) - phrases such as 'no thanks' etc - once we spoke back in their language they seemed to leave us alone a lot quicker!
The buffet food was very good. Variation every night - fresh cooking stations available for both breakfast and lunch. Nice touch twice a week when dinner is moved to either outside by the pool or on the hotels lawns. Entertainment was always worth watching with local acrobatic groups and dancers.
For a hotel the drink prices seemed fairly reasonable. Around £2.70 for a pint of lager. Cocktails were around £5-6 - but where can you go in the England and pay less than that these days anyway!!
Only disappointment was the fact that the casino was closed (well - my wife was pleased actually but...!!) - felt this should have been clearly advertised on hotel website.
Would recommend getting involved in the pool games such as volleyball and polo and the daily 17:00 beach volleyball was always a good laugh!
I would give mention the staff a special mention - but they were all so good it would be impossible to name all of them without missing anyone out!
If the rooms can have a slight makeover (mainly the bathroom), sunbeds and umbrella's be repaired / replaced and the unused part of the hotel boarded off slighty better so its not noticeable I would say this hotel would easily be a 4/5 star.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your feedback and excellent comments on the food, staff and their efforts.

We do take all guest comments positively to work on all posible aspects to make your stay more comfortable and maintain high standards. This is clarify that the information on Casino had been passed to all tour operators and the Casino was no longer advertised on the Hotel Website as well since it has been closed in March 2011. But the Casino has now been operational since 25th December 2011. We noted your feedback and are already working on the same to improve the guest experience.

We hope & look forward to seeing you back soon for yet another holiday with us.

Lets start with the positives. The staff are wonderful, helpful and very friendly. The themed dinners on Xmas Eve / Day and New Years Eve were excellent, the food and the planning were exemplory. The location is fabulous and the beach clean and safe. Doreen, Susan, Fredrick and Humphrey in particular need special mention for making our holiday most enjoyable. The newly opened casino was most welcome as there is not much in the way of entertainment apart from on the special nights and the air con was .... well working!
The pool was lovely and although the sun beds were a little old there were extremely comfy and any broken ones were taken away daily for repair.

Now the negatives. The hotel is tatty, tired and in need of a full refurb. The air con in our room was on 10 degrees and max fan for the whole time we were there and it had little effect. The bulb in our bathroom was broken ad not replaced, a great deal (not just one day's worth) of monkey poo was on the slopeing roof below our balcony and stank making the balcony unusable. There was no toilet seat in the Finns bar ladies toilet which is simply not good enough for a 5* hotel anywhere in the world. This was brought to the Kuoni reps attention who took it up with management with no effect. Whlie we were there my husband fell through a rotten floor board in Finns bar, luckily a client with first aid experience took charge and asked for a doctor and the hotel manager as my husband had laceractions and was badly shook up. The Manager Mr [--] took 10 mins to arrive but did provide a car and member of staff to take us to the hospital. On our return Mr [--] never even offered an apoligy or inquired after my husbands welfare, he simply told us the hotel was insured! We were in a junior suite on the 1st floor, he offered to move us to a room on a lower floor and refund the difference but we did not find this exceptable. There is only one working guest lift in the hotel and this was located at the other side of the hotel. there was a lovely glass fronted lift right opposite our room but it was for staff only. We never saw any staff using this glass fonted feature lift, this is because I suspect it wasn't a staff lift at all it was simply broken. The next couple of day the manager saw us several times and not once did he come and express any interest in our wellbeing. He was however very occupied with a certain couple who we were told by more than one menber of staff were "special customers" as they were there for a month. Sorry Mr [--] all your customers should be reguarded as special no matter how long there stay. This particular couple had reserved tables in various venues for lunch and dinner throughout our stay.

At this stage I would also like to mention that we were in fact on our honeymoon and were returning guests (although Mr [--] was not the manager at our first visit)

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking your time out and give your feedback on the hotel & services.

We do take all guest feedback positively, while in light of the rooftops this is to bring to your notice that we do have periodical cleaning through professional staff as it is inaccessible in normal conditions and that when the hotel is Full as in the case during your stay, however should that have been brought up whilst your stay we would certainly have tried to clean it up to ensure that you had a pleasant experience. Also the Seat Cover that had been broken by another guest had been replaced.

It was indeed unfortunate that your husband had fallen due to unforceen circumstances, while we beg to differ that there was immediate response by another of our management team members who assisted to help your husband as soon as he fell down and was willing to take you to the hospital right away. However you guest – who apparently insisted to do the first aid all by himself & did not allow our Security Personnel (trained first-aider) to offer assistance. Meanwhile as the hotel being very extensive it took time for the GM to walk all the way as he was at opposite side of the resort at that time. As stated we did offer a Car to take your husband to the hospital, along with a wheelchair so as to assist him by not straining to walk, but meanwhile he had already walked his way to other seat across the Restaurant. On your return from the Hospital the GM did meet you at the Lobby along with the Front Office team to re-assure of any assistance that could possibly make your husband comfortable and offer you a Standard room (as that was the only room available being sold out during that period) on lower level -Near to the Elevator for ease of access to restaurants and as well as beach and refund the difference that you would have paid for the suite, which your husband declined and you had mentioned that you shall definitely manage. For your information we do have 2 elevators for guest use at both ends of the resort for ease of access to all rooms at different levels. The GM had also stated that as a hotel we were at your disposal for any need from your side.

The GM had also spoken to the team at Casino who ensured of your physical status (the same day of the incident) when you went to the casino.
Likewise for all guest under GM's instruction there was extensive supervision on your well being specifically through the staff with possible benefits extended whilst your dinner at Sake on the evening of the incident while you were celebrating your anniversary as complimentary services / benefits offered to guests are only be authorized by GM.

This is to clarify that there is no undue advantage offered to any guest and all are treated likewise and that we are generally patronized by valued repeat guests who are recognized for their contiued support which we value and consider you also among them & look forward to seeing you in near future.

Please do let us know of your next visit & the opportunity to make your stay more comfortable.

Kind Regards

I've never been to Kenya before so have nothing to compare our stay to. We got married here in March 2011 and it was one of the best days of my life. After the initial confusion with our tour operator we found that we do not have to stay for one night in Nairobi as long as we are in Kenya for a few days before our wedding day. I researched all the hotels in the area and chose this one as it ticked all the boxes. On arrival you are greeted with fish under the glass floor in reception and the staff are fantastic. We booked a standard room for the first 2 nights as we were off on Safari on the third day but we didn't get to see what it was like as we were upgraded to a Junior Suite. I did push the boat out as we only go to one place once as there are so many places to visit in the world and I booked The Presidential Suite ( you need to book this through Kuoni or Hayes and Jarvis and the hotel do not reply to emails directly :-( Everything about this hotel was top class and the wedding planner was faultless - we had one meeting and everything was decided then I left them to it whilst we went on safari and had the perfect day, with everything we asked for. I've read the other reviews and some complain about mould and dirt, I wonder if they have the right hotel as there is another Dianni Hotel nearby. The view of the ocean are outstanding and you are regularly visited by monkeys!

Room Tip: The Presidential Suite is Huge!!!!!!!!!!!

On arrival at this hotel for our 21 night honeymoon stay in October 2011. This was to be a holiday of a lifetime, but on arrival it was somewhat disappointing to find our allocated room looking very tired and had a damp and dismal smell. We did state our disappointment and the staff were very good and we changed rooms the following day. Unfortunately this was short lived as the AC broke and after putting up with it for a couple of nights, we had to change rooms yet again....the new room was ok, at least the AC worked...well for a while anyway as after a few days it started to leak and water dripped onto the floor causing problems which needed attention during the later hours one evening. After several workmen were called out , it finally got fixed. A complementary bottle of wine was supposed to ease our stress!
The hotel is very tired especially the bedrooms. The food was average and more or less the same menu every evening. It did show in the brochure theme nights of dining centered around the swimming pools... we saw none of this...
Our main disappointment was the lack of entertainment in the evening. The brochure advised a casino, but this closed in March 2011. A 30 minute entertainment show each evening was the all that was offered at this hotel.
Its a pity as a lot of guests commented about the lack of entertainment. Not even any music playing after 9.30pm in the public bars. There was a piano in the cocktail bar, but no pianist playing thoughout the 3 weeks we were staying there...
The highlight of our kenyan experience was a 3 day safari to the Masai Mara.
I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a 5* experience.

Dear Guest

Wishing you a very Happy New Year and hope you had a lovely Christmas with your family.

Thank you for your honest feedback on the hotel and its facilities.

In regards to the damp smell from A/C as you may have noticed being close to the Ocean and rooms being built above the Coral Rocks, the changing atmospheric temperature and humidity levels are few reasons of causing such smell at times, however we are developing ways to have it rectified so as to eliminate such experiences. The leakage in A/C is due to the condensation owing to variance in temperature outside the room.

In light of the entertainment we would like to bring to your notice that we do have activities like Water Aerobics / Polo, Pool Championship, Movies in the Theatre (plus during your stay we had also played movies at the Oyster conference hall), Beach Volleyball etc during the day open for guests and the schedule for which is put up on the various notice board at the resort for guest reference, while we do have Sins Night club open in evening until late for In-House guests. We do have weekly outdoor theme dinners either at pool side or Hotel Garden, but due to the unfavorable weather conditions (Rains / Cloudy) we were unable to make arrangements outdoor. But we now regularly have regular outdoor theme dinners since november as the weather is more favorable.

The casino had been closed since March 2011, information for which had been passed in March 2011 to all the Tour Operators (including ones you would have booked through), Local Agents including our hotel website as there was a management change and had been delayed until 25th December 2011 in order to find professional and right management company to operate the Casino.

Please note we do take all feedback positively and work towards enhancing guest stay.

Do let us know on your next visit so as to ensure that you have a comfortable stay.

Kind Regards

Me and my wife visited this resort in december just before christmas for our 5th year anniversary and we were glad we went there. The highlight for me was the excellent beach front which is huge and clean with many beach chairs for relaxing and as another reviewer mentioned even though the hotel had many guests, you do not feel like you are fighting for space, there are very few hotels in Mombasa that can rival that. The food was always great both dinner and breakfast and the theme night was very nice too.. good job. Our room was in good shape, got a renovated room overlooking the ocean...excellent with a nice see breeze. there are two pools one next to the bar and a silent pool which me and my wife enjoyed more but I have to say it is less clean though not unbearably(alot of debris that falls from the surrounding trees). there is a gym which is very well equipped and open all day with an instructor who is always willing to help. the staff are also very helpful, had an issue with our key card/lock when we checked in and this was sorted in quick time. we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: upper floor rooms overlooking the ocean

Dear Guest

Wishing you a very Happy New Year and hope you had a lovely Christmas.

Thank you for the excellent feedback on the hotel and its facilities. Further to your concern about the cleanliness of the Silent, this is to bring to your notice that as in case of the other House pool we do periodical cleaning the same way to ensure of its safety and for ready use of the guests, however being surrounded by more trees than the other due to which there may be more leaves falling during the day. However this is to re-assure that we do daily cleaning so as to maintain the aesthetic upkeep of the Silent pool.

We do hope to see you again & welcoming you back to the resort for yet another memorable stay with us.

Kind Regards
