We have just returned from Diani Sea Lodge and have had a fantastic time. We are a family with 14 and 9 year old children, and the staff could really not do enough for us. The hotel is not as luxurious as some of the safari lodges, hence the excellent value for money, however the rooms were spacious and clean, the food was always fresh and hot and the service was always with a smile! None of the family had stomach upsets at any time during the holiday.
The animation team were excellent, not too pushy, they were happy to chat and leave you to relax if you are not the active type - Victor is great fun! This worked very well for our family, as the relaxed laid back atmosphere resulted in our children (and us) joining in far more than we would usually do!
The beach boys were not too much of a problem, they left you alone if you said a firm no thank you, however we quite enjoyed chatting to a couple of them. Particularly a man in Masai costume, who took a liking to our son once he bought a small bracelet from him and was happy just to chat and would not let any other beach boys bother him for the rest of the week! The hotel shop is very reasonable for wood carvings etc and we would recommend buying from the shop or the Masai man on the beach - don't use the beach shack to the right of the hotel, it is very overpriced and the bartering is quite intense.
The swimming pool was always clean and our 9 year old spent most of her time in it. If you want to take a boat trip, we would recommend Henry from the beach (properly licensed) we paid half the price for exactly the same trip when booked via the tour operators, and ended up on the same trip, with boats next to each other.
We really did not want to come home from this holiday, there is something about the atmosphere that made the whole family feel totally relaxed. We would certainly recommend this hotel.
Lastly, we have read comments about the Likoni ferry and I was worried about queuing.. we did not have to queue longer than 5 minutes on either crossing, and the crossing itself only takes 5 minutes so it was not a problem.

My wife and I have just arrived back from the Diani Sea Lodge, all we can say is WOW, we had a fantastic two weeks there and didn't want to leave, we have stayed at many hotels through out the world, but this one has to be ranked with the very best, I would without hesitation book it again.

We travelled with First Choice and booked the three night Ndogo Safari & Stay adventure at the same time as the holiday.

The transfer to the hotel was straight forward with no hitches, although after a nine hour flight sightseeing was not the first thing on the agenda.

The hotel is just perfect, small enough to be really friendly, but big enough not to feel crowded at any time and sun beds were always available even after breakfast!!

The food was superb and always plenty of choice, if you didn't fancy a full lunch there is a snack bar that does lighter food (burgers, pasta, toasted sandwiches etc). The weekly BBQ is wonderful.

It was such hard work having to get up from the sun bed, put the book down and walk a short distance to the pool bar and decide what to have.

The pool is kept spotless although we found the sea was a lot warmer and far more fun, especially when the sea was coming in, great fun to wave jump. The beach sellers can be a pain, but normally a firm NO and the hand up did the trick or tell them everything was pre-booked in the UK.

The grounds are very well kept and regularly maintained, the monkeys are sweet and great fun to watch, especially when it came to new people that went for a swim and forgot about their drinks, the monkeys would be down like a shot and more than happy to finish them off.

The staff coulnd't do enough for you, they were so friendly, this applied to all staff from the pool / ground staff, bar staff and restaurant, nothing was ever to much bother and you are always treated to "Jambo" when they pass.

We upgraded before we went to a Supior Bahari room, to be honest it was a nice sized room, but really only had a mini fridge and a tv that played two English programmes (one of those was dubbed in to American).

The Safari, many say book with JT Tours etc, but as to be honest we pre-booked it knowing that should anything go wrong your covered by risk assessments and First Choice insurance. As a suprise for my wife (as a birthday present) I upgraded the hotels on the safari to the Aruba Lodge, Kilaguni Serena Lodge & the Sarova Saltlick Lodge. We did the Tsavo East & West and the Taito Hills. This was fantastic, the viewing was out of this world and the photo opportunities immense. One thing to say is when on safari the drinks can be expensive approx £20.00 for a bottle of wine, one tip would be to decant your duty free in to an empty water bottle and let it travel with your backpack for a quite drink in your room while animal watching. We saw four out the big five, rhino's were shy.

As said all the staff were fantastic and to many to name and thank in this review. Two however need to be named, one was Stacey our rep who was great and sorted out trips etc for us and the other would be Kennedy who runs the Souvenir shop at the bottom of the drive, he's the one on the left side as you look, he is inside the gates and his prices are better than you can haggle for on the outside.

Some tips: do not except keyrings from a beach seller called Tony - if you do he will think he now owns your sole and will keep pestering you every day. The in-house massage is great, just over £8.00 for 50 mins, the annimation team do a very good job but if you say no they do respect it.

On the whole a fantastic holiday with plenty of very good memories, now just to sort out over 10 Gigs worth of photo's. Have a great time.
Richard and Chrissie.

Room Tip: The Supior Barhi rooms 104, 105 & 106 downstairs do not have a sea veiw. we had 107 and could se...

My friend & I spent 2 weeks at Diani Sea Lodge in June & had a lovely time. We travelled with First Choice & everything went smoothly. Queuing at the airport for the entrance visa is painstakingly slow (& the airport is very hot!) but other than that, no problems.

Our rep, Stacey, was brilliant! She was there to greet us outside the airport & then we saw her almost every day at the hotel & she often joined us for evening drinks. She was extremely informative, very helpful & always friendly.

We had a bungalow style room amongst beautiful, well kept grounds, & although basic, it was clean & spacious. It was cleaned every day with beds made, floors mopped, fresh towels & extra toilet roll, etc. We tipped the maids a few times towards the end of our holiday but from the outset they were very friendly & helpful. We had a mosquito net over our beds & had no problems with mossies at all.

The food was very tasty & there was always a good choice, including a meat dish & usually a vegi curry, & also a 'pasta station' where you could have pasta cooked to your liking. Twice a week there was a BBQ outdoors & the food was always great, & plentiful. The naan breads freshly cooked in a clay oven were delicious! The breakfast consisted of salad, cereals, yoghurts, toast, sausages, bacon, pancakes & pastries. Everything we wanted really. Service always came with a smile too!

The weather was great in June, all bar a couple of rainy days, but it remained hot & humid for the duration.

The staff at the hotel are fantastic! I couldn't fault them & I actually don't think that I have ever received such great service at a resort. They will go out of their way to ensure that you have a great holiday. I wish I could mention all of them but a few that stood out were Beth in the restaurant (who really took care of my friend when she was sick with 'Mombasa Express'!), Bernard at the bar who we enjoyed chatting to, & Daniel, the lovely food & drink supervisor. Everyone says Jambo to you everywhere you go.

The entertainment was pretty good & varied too. From a jazz band to a fashion show to acrobats!

The beach is lovely - white sand & clear blue sea. It was quite windy when we went though. Not sure if it is always like this. The 'beach boys' are ok, they don't bother you too much. If you are quite firm with them they will leave you alone. You do get the odd persistent one but they don't follow you in to the sea so you can get away from them.

The pool is very clean & we swam almost every day. The staff constantly maintain the pool & the grounds - from picking up leaves to climbing up the trees to remove loose coconuts in case they fall on anyone! The security guards have catapults & chase off the monkeys if they are troublesome, as well as making sure that the 'beach boys' don't enter the hotel grounds.

There are monkeys all over the place - & they seem to come out more when the tea & cakes come out at 4pm! Watch your drinks as they will run off with them! They are highly entertaining though.

The animation team really try to get you get involved in activities but leave you alone if you say no. They were all really friendly & the people we met that joined in had a great time. They organise some local excursions & a few of us went to the snake farm which was interesting. They have lizards, tortoises, snakes & crocodiles. Worth a visit.

My friend & I both had a massage whilst we were at the resort, as did quite a few of the people that we met & I definitely recommend it - it was 50 minutes long & worked out at about £8! Anastasia is brilliant!

We didn't go to Ali Barbour's Cave Restaurant but can highly recommend The Forty Thieves Bar - great food, cocktails & service & just a ten minute walk along the beach.

Now for the safari… we booked it through JT Safaris (www.julius-safaris.com) & it was an experience of a lifetime! We did a 2 night, 3 day safari to Tsavo East & West. It couldn't have been better & Julius went out of his way to ensure that we had the most amazing time, as did our driver, George. If you going on safari don't even think about it - book with JT Safaris!!

All in all we had a great holiday & it wouldn't have been the same without Stacey (our rep), the amazing staff at the resort, Julius & George from JT Safaris & the lovely friends we made - Julie & Scott, & Mark & Lynn.

Would definitely recommend this resort.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Diani Sea Lodge. I have travelled extensively over the years and stayed at many 5* hotels in mexico and the dominican republic but none compared to the hotel.

Staff - always friendly and polite. Chatty and always had a smile. I would love to name all the fantastic staff but I'm afraid of missing one out so suffice to say everyone was amazing.

Food
Plentiful, varied and beautifully displayed. Never got bored once of eating here.

Grounds
Beautiful, well kept and the gardiners always friendly and polite. Bronson used to climb up the palm trees and pick coconuts - an amazing sight to see.

Rooms
More than adequate and absolutely spotless. Cannot fault anything. Yes the pillows are flat and hard but asked for another one and it was delivered within 10 minutes.

Beach Boys
Yes, can be a bit of a pain but they are only trying to make a living.

Animation team
Victor, Daniel, Safari, Abraham, Susan and Irene - so happy, friendly and full of fun - we so enjoyed their company.

Security
Felt very safe here and in particular must mention Security Guard James Odera who always went above and beyond.

Please do not be afraid to book this amazing hotel. You will honestly have the holiday of a lifetime.
