Leisure Lodge Beach and Golf Resort
Ranked #22 of 29 Hotels in Diani Beach
Reviewed January 6, 2009

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days, and were impressed with the facilities and the service. We were upgraded to the Garden Suite in the Club section of the resort.

The food was nice and liked the barbecue/buffet nights. The most impressive side, was lunch was offered on the beach front. Breakfast was served by the pool side within one of their gardens.

The beach is very nice and the resort has a diving school. It would have been better if the beach had been regularly cleaned, as there were loadsa seaweeds.

The staff were extremely friendly all around, and very helpfull. There is a dress code for dinner, which was unusual, but does make sense.

I would recommend this hotel to guests. The resort/club suites would be an addon, but if you can afford it, worth an upgrade.

We are wedding photographers who did a wedding at the Diani Reef Hotel next door to the Leisure Lodge. We met the operations manager who was very helpful given the effect tourism had had due to political situation the country. If you love golf and a quite resort this lodge is for you. The hotel was has the Club side which is 5 star and Bahari side with is 4 star. The rooms are big and spacious. If you have a problem just ask and it's sorted out. There are about 4-5 big swimming pools in the whole hotel. Whilst we were there most of the pole were 55+ years old. I think this again was due to the political situtation. I recomend this resort if you love golf and want a challege.

We stayed at this hotel for a week. I can honestly say that the our room was one of the worst that I have seen. The bathroom was terrible and the air conditioning unit was ancient. The telephone did not work properly and the reception staff were unhelpful. The whole resort was tacky. WSe couldn't wait to leave.

We had originally booked another hotel, but due to overbooking we got relocated to this. We stayed in a garden room in the club section of the hotel, which is the hotels executive area. I would recommend staying in this part of the hotel and not the resort area, which did not look as nice. The 2 last nights we got upgraded to an oasis villa (the previous room had some ants, but as soon as we pointed this out we got help with spraying for them, and later a room in a villa including complimentary fruit basket. The manager personally came by and apologized. We felt the hotel handled this very well). The rooms are basic, but our oasis villa was much better and more like a 4-star room, and looked recently renovated.

The food was nice, although if you stay longer than one week it will probably feel repetitive. We liked the barbecue/buffet nights.

The beach is very nice. The resort has a diving school where we made 2 dives. The diving itself was ok, but the diving school must have been one of the neatest, most well maintained I have ever seen. Recommended.

It is a golf resort, and a lot of the guests are older. The place was empty after ten, so don't expect a lot of partying. However there is a casino. Predominantly German clientele.

The negatives: your table for breakfast and dinner is assigned to you, and if you don't like it it's difficult to change. The same goes for the beach, you don't get a good spot unless you tip well and debate a lot. They suggested many guests make arrangements in advance in order to get good tables/sun loungers.

We stayed here for a week. There really is nothing negative to say about this place. The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough to help you, the food is also good. The resort is good for families and couples alike, offering a few different activities.

We will definately be returning to the Leisure lodge in the future - can't wait!!

Unfortunately, Leisure lodge falls extremely short of being the best hotel in Mombasa as it claims. The rooms (and mind you we stayed in the club/executive area which are supposed to be their premium rooms) are not at all well maintained, beds are horrible, A/C's malfunction, you have to go through two doors to wash your hands after going to the loo!! And there is no sight of the beloved Indian ocean from the majority of the rooms. This is unheard of for a coastal hotel where the main attraction is the sea/beach!! The staff is a mixed bunch, mainly polite and friendly but they are the odd bunch who are extremely rude. The food is average and suffers from reptitiveness e.g., the same desserts every night including new year's eve!! The stretch of beach for the hotel is also limited and while they claim that loungers etc are not reserved, you'll often find tags on the beach-beds and be told that you can't use that because this person has it reserved and they may not even show up for the whole day. Same thing with tables, apparently all guests are not created equal -- only those that have checked in before you get good tables...we stayed there for 6 days and this was the story even on our last day there! I must have been to Mombasa over 10 to 15 times and this is probably the worst beach hotel I have stayed at there, but definitely not the most inexpensive...It's all rather pathetic - I would never ever go there again. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone -- of course if you are golf crazy you might overlook all these things.

This hotel was fantastic from start to finish.
Just short of 2 hours from the airport, the cool towel on arrival was definately appreciated! Very impressive reception area. A speedy and trouble free check in meant we were soon sat in our lovely room overlooking the pool.
All facilities throughout the hotel were clean and well maintained, the pool area was lovely with a waterfall and a great little ledge to sunbathe on. Keep an eye out for the family of monkeys that wander around but don't leave swimwear on the balconies as they have a habit of pinching them
Hotel was mainly full of German guests, there was 8 English including us two, no problem just meant a very quiet holiday which was exactly what we wanted.
Some brochures describe this hotel as being unsuitable for people with walking difficulties, though i would strongly disagree and i travelled with my disabled mother. There are slopes and pathways throughout the hotel and all areas were acsesible apart from maybe the small pool down by the beach which is mainly used for scuba diving practice.
All of the staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help. There were activities going on during the day, water aerobics, volleyball etc but the animation team were happy to leave you alone if you just wanted to chill out.
On alternate nights you dine outside on the Bahari terrace with a special theme buffet and there is evening entertainment every night ranging from acrobats to choirs to local dance troops. This usually finishes by 10:30pm with a bit of music after.
Dining in the restaurant is either buffet of waiter service a la carte. All very tasty and lots of variety.
The beach area was gorgeous, picture perfect. You did get a bit of hassal from people trying to sell you things but nothing annoying.
Tried the local nightlife , Shakatak in Diani beach which was a great night out, very safe but females will get approached by the local males.
All in all a great hotel, we're even considering going back next year. Would definately reccommend to anyone looking for luxurious surroundings and excellent service.
