Nice beach resort. Despite the fact that the private beach is almost useless due to the invasion of locals as well as the venemous stone fish living in the shallow water, the resort offers many other things that makes it worth staying there. It has several small cafees serving food from all around the globe as well as a nice pool area. Nice place to kick back after a couple of weeks on the Masai Mara.

We stayed at the Leopard Beach for 14 nights and had a great time. Staff is very keen to make you feel at home and always has your well-being in mind. The gardens are truly wonderful (we saw visitors from other hotels-recognizable by their all-inclusive armbands- that came to visit the gardens and resident monkeys) and Spa a haven of tranquility. Yes, the bathrooms are dated, even in the cottages, but renovations aer planned for this years closure may/june. We had a look at 3 other hotels along Diani Beach and would/will return if we visit Diani again. The suite we were shown is amazing, with superb bathroom and great views. Average age can be high and we could do without the groups that visit, but they never stay for more than a couple of nights.

We really enjoyed our time at leopard beach the staff were very friendly, the food was varied and delicious. Every evening for dinner they would have different entertainers singers, bands etc... all of which were very good. One evening we had a garden party and on the last night we had dinner on the beach followed by a party which was great fun. The staff were always very helpful and polite.
Both pools were clean. One was aimed at families and the other pool was great for adults to relax away from the beach etc...
They also have a water sports area where you can try diving etc...

Our party of 3 was myself (the Mizungu) and my Kenyan girlfriend's children (17 & 6).
I've been to luxury tropical resorts before and usually find them a bit pretensious, so it was very refreshing to find a hotel that wasn't just honeymooners and people away on wedding anniversaries and that instead it was a real mix of travellers of differnt ages and countries, all who were very friendly. Instead of trying to avoid contact with others, people were chatty. Actually - I'd read the reviews on trip advisor before booking so knew they catered for families (as well as hooneymooners and wedding anniversaries and younger people travelling as friends).
The resort is in a nice location with several terraces before you get to the beach. It's a shame there's so much seaweed though as the young kids get scared of it, but if you carry them out past it, then the sea has nice sandy sections and if you swim around you'll spot some of the local marine life. Don't be afraid of the beach boys, in fact - I insist you go down there and spend some of your money. I got some hand made "name" keyfobs shaped as animals - made while I watched. But there's all sorts of local craft's available.
The staff were great especially the kids club in the morning which gave me chance to have an unwind while they were supervised playing games in & around the pool. And most people seemed to enjoy joining in with the pool aerobics - you'll soon know the "Habari Gani, Mizuri Sana" song as I called it.
I booked a dive through the onsite school for the eldest and myself (on separate days) and was treated to a wonderful experience at the other end of Diani beach. Safari, the instructor, knew a great place to take us which was basically like a gully with ups and down and lots of fish/huge clams etc. What was really helpful is having a baby sitter to take care of the youngest (who charges so little I doubled it with a tip as I felt embarrased at what little she was charging).
The food was typical good buffet selection - only let down by catering too much for Europeans and not showcasing some of the local food. When you have a fussy 6 year old, who used to eating Uji, Ugali etc it can be hard finding something on the buffet when she had so much new choices, but after 10 minutes umming and ahhing she'd eventually fill her plate - and then leave most of it as she was full :-(. The service was just right - I've been to some Kenyan hotel where they go over the top, taking away your plate as soon as you put your fork down. But this was just right - easy to get someone's attention, they would check with the chef if non standard items could be done, and I was never left waiting. The only thing I'd moan about is the pool bar is a bit pricey considering what is being served. But then - you can go out for lunch.
In the evenings there was entertainment through the meal which chilled out and/or fun (i.e. NOT tacky). I particularly liked going down to the pool area after dinner as there was usually some dance display. E.g Masaii tribal dancers etc and you also get the cool breeze from the sea coming in - just at the time of day when the humidity hits 100%.
If you want to get around outside the hotel, the Matatu's (mini buses) stop outside the gate and can take you down to the shops for 20 ksh (nothing!). There's a Nakumat supermarket with a good range of food and non food items (e.g. if you've left your goggles at home) and some boutique shops. Also walk to the African Cooking Pot a couple of plots to the left of the hotel - their grilled goat/ugali/kachumbari is not quite as good as my girlfriend makes, but its authentic kenyan food - shame they don't do more of it in the hotel. Lastly, if you like night life and want to see how the Kenyans like to party, take a trip to Shakatac bar/disco/grill. It doesn't get going till late, but once a few beers have been consumed, there's a lot of hip gyrating and rubbing against each other... think of the film "dirty dancing" and you'll get the idea. Lastly - if you have time - take a taxi to Mombssa via the Ferry and the shanty town just before it. Think of all those movies where there's noise, hussle and bussle, mad traffic jams with nutty drivers, people pulling hand karts and moving cattle. It's an "OMG" experience you shouldn't miss.
Anyway - regarding the hotel I got exactly what I expected, a clean comfortable hotel with manicured gardens / ponds right on the beach with a nice pig pool, decent food, and good service and a great base to do some "exploring". Well done. Recommended to anyone.
PS I actually liked Diani Beach so much I've decided to move there and set up a guest house!

My husband and I stayed at Leopard Resort and Spa on our honeymoon in January 2011 and we had an amazing time. Surrounded by lush gardens and built cleverly into the cliffs arising out of Diani beach, the resort offers tranquility even when nearly full with travellers. The staff are very friendly, and the massage I had at the spa (set in a forest, with baby monkeys playing closeby) the best I have ever had. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a quiet 'time-out' in a beautiful setting.

My husband and I recently decided to get away from Nairobi for a romantic weekend on the coast. Overall, our stay was a mixed bag. The hotel gets major brownie points for providing free shuttle service from Ukunda airstrip and free wi-fi in the common areas. The first room they gave us, however, was less than acceptable. There were stains on the bedspread, dead bugs and hair in the bathroom, and the toilet didn't flush. We were able to change rooms to one with a bathroom that was more recently remodeled. The garden view rooms are relatively far away from the main lodge and pool, but that main area was quite nice. The beach is spectacularly beautiful and we were very content to lay out by the pool during our stay. We organized a snorkeling trip through the hotel and were very happy with the outing. The food wasn't very good, but there was plenty of it.

Myself and my partner stayed at leopard beach resort in january for 10 nights for our honeymoon. It was amazing. The staff are polite and nothing is too much trouble for them. We stayed in a superior suite and the room was superb. The cleanliness of it was brilliant and all amenities worked fine. The food was outstanding. I would recommend going for the gourmet package which lets you eat in the chui grill, main restaurant or pizza restaurant. The level of service we recieved in the chui grill was world class enough to rival any 5 star restaurant. The hotel facilities were superb and all in all we could not fault this hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting kenya and would certainly re visit this hotel in the future.
